Line of Duty: Episode #6.7 (2021)
Season 6, Episode 7

Warning: Spoilers
I binged all 6 series in just about a week. Before watching the final season, I checked IMDB to see if this was the end or if there was a seventh series in the works. While perusing IMDB, I noticed that the final episode of Series 6 was scored extremely low in comparison with all the other episodes.

After seeing this, I was prepared for a lackluster final episode/conclusion. Would the major villain, the 4th Caddy, be completely ridiculous and cartoonish? Would there be an over-the-top final twist? Would there be a cliff hanger with no real plans to wrap everything up? I was prepared for all these scenarios.

I readied myself for a lackluster ending. Then, I turned it on, and when it was over, I loved it.

What were people expecting? A Moriarity god-like final boss? Kate and Arnott to get together? Everything wrapped up neatly with corruption finally vanquished once and for all? If those were the things you were looking for, I wonder: what show were you watching for 6 seasons? Because Line of Duty was never that show.

The finale was completely on-brand and justified. Corruption can never be squashed completely. It will exist as long a man's organizations exist. The main characters fight, bicker, and hold each other accountable for their actions, but when the chips are down, they have each other's backs. And corruption, even widespread corruption, is the not typically the result of a highly intelligent and coordinated cabal of evil masterminds. Corruption flourishes when stupid, greedy people make selfish decisions. These were the themes of the show for its entire 6 series run. And these were the lessons of the final episode. A happy ending? A cartoonish villain? No, just characters that ring true. "Good guys" that are not perfect or infallible. "Bad guys" that are spurred on by their selfishness and a measure of stupidity.

Great show. Fitting finale.

Season 2...in Quotes
30 March 2018
First, just to clarify, I rated Season 1 as a 7. Season 2 would be more like a 5, as in ok at best...

Rather than reviewing the plot or the annoying, self loathing Jessica Jones character (who spends Season 2 constantly saying things like: "I am not a murder" and cursing her powers), here is are some actual quotes from Season 2. I think they represent Season 2 better than any review I could write on my own.

While reading these quotes, consider the steps that one assumes the dialogue went through before appearing in the show Step 1: The writer thought of the dialogue in their head Step 2: The writer considered the dialgoue worthy of being written down and submitted Step 3: The dialogue was read and approved by some sort of script supervisor Step 4: The actors read the script in practice, and then during filming, without anyone powerful enough to stop it objecting Step 5: The dialogue made the final cut after editing

So with that in mind, here we go... QUOTE 1 (A taxi driver tells a mother and daughter not to 'get their panties in a bunch' while driving) "We're grown women. We don't wear panties. We wear underwear."

Ok....

QUOTE 2 "You know that saying about having your cake and eating it too? Whoever said that probably didn't have cake that killed people."

Wow. Just wow. A middle schooler, with severe brain damage, could write something better than that. I'm not sure what else to say.

QUOTE 3 "Your father, he needed to be in charge like his (Dick Van Dyke) would fall off if he let me drive." "I sooo don't need to hear about my dead father's (Moby Dick)." "If I had been driving, we all would still be alive. It's a great role model for your daughter right? Shut up and sit shotgun."

Yeah. Those pesky, male chauvinists. Always refusing to let the superior women drivers take the wheel. How many more deaths will we have to endure? Stand up women everywhere! Take away the keys from your oppresive, overlord husbands. Lives are at stake. Good grief. Imagine a male character saying this after his wife gets in a car accident: "If only I had been driving, we all would still be alive." In poor taste? Sexist? Ridiculous? Yes, all of the above.

So there it is, Season 2 of Jessica Jones, in quotes. Enjoy.

Could've Been Great
24 July 2017
I entered the theater with no background knowledge of the story and no expectations. Despite having no expectations, I somehow left disappointed although entertained.

The saving grace of this movie is the graphics and effects. The CGI aliens look awesome and moved gracefully. The worlds and settings were wonderfully designed and pleasing to the eye. Even the chase scenes and fight scenes were well choreographed and directed. Beyond the visual appeal, the story was entertaining. Sure it repackaged some often used themes and was a tad predictable. However, the story itself remained interesting.

Unfortunately, the script and acting failed the source material's intrigue. While the story was entertaining, the script failed to do it justice. The dialogue between the main characters was stale, failed at attempts to be humorous, and came across as forced and unrealistic. If the movie had exceptional (and I do mean exceptional) leads, the poor dialogue may have been overcome. Sadly, however, the main actors were worse than the script itself.

There was no chemistry between the two leads. Their performances were wooden and unrealistic. I felt no romantic chemistry between them and, yet, their "romance" was a major part of the story's plot.

Overall, the movie was worth viewing on the big screen mainly because of its visuals but failed to tap into its potential.
