Malignant (2021)
What did I just watch?
A very brief moment at the end of the film was pretty awesome! There was really jarring camerawork that looked nice, as well. The rest of it barely passed as a competent film. Bad acting, generic music (I hope the Pixies got paid because they straight ripped off "Where is My Mind"), and a horrendous story made this film almost unwatchable. I was really looking forward to this, too. There were a couple of good ideas buried within, but they were surrounded by so much drivel that one can hardly stop to admire a clever moment. Hard pass on this one.
Justice League (2017)
Snyder is a legend
The Snyder cut is so amazing that I had to come back and give this one star. Just give Snyder what he wants!
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Worth a watch if.....
You were born between 1975 and 1985. I don't know if I would of enjoyed this film if the first two weren't such a big part of my childhood. I smiled continually while watching the film, though it is very flawed. Perhaps that's one of its endearing qualities. All three films are a very positive affairs, verging on having a childish innocence. I think that is the series ultimate charm. Two friends that just want people to be happy. But I can see why others won't find what they are looking for while bouncing around time with Bill &Ted. Millennials will be stoked.
Evil Dead II (1987)
Awesome and annoying all at once.
It's not that I don't like this film, because I do for its merits. However, I haven't successfully been able to watch more than 20 minutes of it since I was 15. It is so frenetic and grating on the senses that I just can't sit through it.
King Kong (1976)
I can't help it.
This was one of my absolute favorite movies when I was a kid. I can't help love it. Jessica Lange was so beautiful in the 1970's.
Uncut Gems (2019)
Characters are so annoying!
The filmmaking was great. I mean, it is A24, and they don't play around with subpar films. But trying to deal with the subject matter, accents, and characters was like grinding my brain on the concrete after being ejected from an automobile. Do people speak like this, act like this on the east coast? Are money and materialism this important to some people? My girlfriend couldn't handle it. It was insanely annoying. It was a whole other level of annoying. I really dislike Adam Sandler. The way he speaks makes me want to pull his tongue out. This film was almost as annoying as 'Mother'.
The Irishman (2019)
I didn't need to see another one of these
I don't need to see another Marvel film, and I certainly don't need to see another Scorcese gangster film. He is as tired as this genre. There are really great films being made today but not by this guy. I firmly believe that old people shouldn't be allowed to vote or direct, as they are too out of touch with the current state of things. 'The Lighthouse', now there is quality filmmaking that deserves countless viewings. Really anything that A24 produces should be high on everyone's list of must-see films. This was a rehash of films that firmly sit in the 80s and 90s. This was as fresh as a bunch of bananas sitting in the Arizona desert.
A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985)
The best in my opinion
Easily the best one of the series for me. It is the only one that is even slighty unsettling. The score provided by the one-and-only Christopher Young (the most underrated composer in the business) is an overwhelming reason why this film is effective. I love the Bernstein score, but it is 80s cheese. Young's score was a prelude to the dazzling music of Hellraiser, and it works so well. The score for the 3rd installment is a joke. It ruins it for me. Freddy is by far the best version of himself. The makeup and lighting compliment each other, and make for some very iconic imagery. All of these movies are pretty awful, but this one has sparks that shine so much brighter.
When a Stranger Calls (1979)
Canes in bulk
Why does a man that can walk need do many canes, and why does the middle of this flick make no sense?
Us (2019)
Quality filmmaking but....
Jordan Peele is clearly an excellent filmmaker, no doubt. But honestly, I was bored. It was very predictable, which definitely hurts a film such as this one.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
The best comic book movie ever made
Probably the best animated film of all time as well.
Black Panther (2018)
A pile
I can't believe this pile was just nominated for best picture! This was a bad movie beginning to end. Props on the cast though.
