Sam & Cat (2013)
What an Amazing Show... NOT
I have watched quite a few episodes of Sam & Cat and I can say that I didn't laugh ONCE. NOT ONCE. I thought iCarly and Victorious were bad... Dan Schneider, you've lost it.
Basically this show revolves around Sam Puckett (Jenette McCurdy) from iCarly and Cat Valentine (Ariana Grande) from Victorious. They start a babysitting service and Sam moves into Nona's (Cat's grandmother's) apartment. Although, as soon as Sam gets there, Nona leaves her granddaughter to live in a retirement home with little to no money. There is no way babysitting money is paying for her lavish apartment's rent every month. I have to stop there. A babysitting service? Really? That's the best idea you came up with? A bit of a lackluster premise if you ask me. The component that's almost as annoying as Cat's nails-on-a-chalkboard voice is the idiotic laugh track that plays after EVERY SENTENCE. Is that supposed to make me laugh? It doesn't. In fact, it makes me want to throw myself at my TV.
The other characters include 12-year-old Dice (Cameron Oscario), who lives in Cat's apartment complex. He adds absolutely nothing to the show except for being an annoying little brat that you want to punch in the face 50 million times. He's pretty much filler and nothing more.
Then there's Goomer (Zoran Korach), an MMA fighter who just so happens to be managed by a TWELVE YEAR OLD. Yeah, that really helps your career. But who cares? Goomer is too stupid to realize that anyway. Apparently the writers think that by adding a dumb 5-year-old to the show that it will make it better when in fact it makes me want to vomit. Stupidity is NOT funny. It's highly irritating and gets old quickly. The only character I can withstand is Nona (Maree Cheatham), but she doesn't get enough air time at all because she left Cat to live a retirement home.
All of the jokes on this show are the same overused bullshit from iCarly and Victorious. Speaking of iCarly, did I neglect to mention that Cat is written exactly like Carly? Her responses and facial expressions match Carly's in every way. If you swapped out Cat with Carly, it wouldn't make a difference (minus the annoying voice). The acting is atrocious, as usual. Is anyone surprised?
The fact of the matter is Sam and Cat were never meant to be main characters. Neither of them have enough depth and, to be frank, neither of them are likable. Sam's stupid pranks she pulls on Cat are just plain mean and not as hilarious as the laugh track and the writers seem to think.
Sam and Cat is one of the worst shows I have ever watched. Dan Schneider, if I were you, I'd stop creating these types of shows. They're not funny and they all wind up being the exact same thing.
