Venezuelan Brass Ensemble: Gran Fanfare (2007)
Great Performance by an Energetic Group
This is a concert DVD of this amazing youth brass ensemble filmed in Berlin while they were on a tour of Germany. The selections played were a balance of Latin, American, and European pieces, and they were all performed brilliantly. If you like brass ensemble music on a large scale, be sure to check out this performance. There was generally a good balance between the sections of the band (although a bit heavy on the number of French horns and only one euphonium). The ensemble members as well as the conductor seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. The audience would not let them go until they had played three encores.
Ghost Rock (2003)
Really bad....
This poor excuse for a western missed out all the way around: terrible acting, awful editing, and a miserable excuse for any originality in the plot. Shades of "Once Upon a Time in the West" and a half-dozen other far better horse operas. It has absolutely no redeeming social value, not even the half-hearted efforts at soft porn. I started watching it because Gary Bussey and Annette Barbeaux were listed in the cast, but even their appearances couldn't save it. They must really have been hard up for acting (?) jobs! The lines they were given to read were so trite and corny as to induce severe nausea. I kept waiting for something unexpected (read interesting) to happen, but nothing ever materialized.
