Future Man (2017)
Hysterical first season
The first season was great...very funny, witty, and the actors had that perfect comedic timing and deadpan delivery. And as far as time travel shows go, you were able to follow the story and understand the mission they were on.
Then the second and third seasons came along. They seemed to lose sight of what their mission was. There were long drawn out individual stories that went nowhere, and a plot that moved at a snails pace. However, these last two seasons were punctuated by a few, but unfortunately far between, hilarious scenes that kept you engaged for continued viewing.
Spoiler alert: the whole premise of this series was to save the future. The time travelers came back to change the past so their future society could be saved. In the end, they never accomplished their mission, it wasn't even addressed in the last season.
God Forbid (2022)
Bait and Switch
This film starts out with a compelling story about a young mans sexual tryst with Jerry Fallwell JR. And his wife, and how he played a part in the downfall of the Fallwell's. But then it veers off path and you realize that the filmmaker is using this as a vehicle to expose the evils of Evangelical religious beliefs and how it effects politics and the country. Because of Fallwells friendship and contributions to Donald Trump and his presidential campaign, the filmmaker drags in the Jan. 6 insurrection, abortion rights, Supreme Court decisions, and a whole host of other political issues that he uses to promote liberal views. By the end of the film, the viewer is left wondering what happened to the young man?
Imposters (2017)
Should have quit while ahead
Season 1 started out good, interesting plot, some nice detective work as our three protagonists worked together to track down the con woman who bilked them out of their life savings. A few twists along the way, and situations were resolved and restitutions were made. Then season 2 began. The writers cannot expect the viewer to believe that these three idiots can somehow become world class con men. The story becomes increasingly unbelievable and we are left thinking what normal human beings would act like these characters?
Then comes the very last line of the last episode...are we supposed to think that Ezra and Sophia are going to take over the con operation left by the Doctor? Setting us up for a season 3 that was thankfully cancelled before production....whew!
Clickbait (2021)
The story was very good, until it wasn't
The story starts out great, it hooks you in. Most of the characters are explored...motives, opportunity, etc. Then the one character who is barley mentioned and has so little screen time throughout the series, turns out to be the culprit. It was like wasting the first seven episodes. If anyone was able to figure out this whodunit, it wasn't because they are a great sleuth, its because they figured the writers were going to do something absurd.
Stowaway (2021)
So Disappointing
The story was interesting, it was the lifeboat scenario, too many people, not enough provisions....it made you ask, "what would I do?" But when they try to put this in outer space, the story falls apart. The whole premise of the movie about someone who gets trapped aboard a spaceship headed for Mars is pretty hard to believe. But even if you can get past that, the rest of the movie violates too many basic rules of spaceflight, spacewalks, and gravity. Astronauts not tethered to the ship during space walks is just one example of this. It was hard to get involved in the story and characters when all I can think about is how poorly the science of this movie is shown.
The Week Of (2018)
Tough movie to sit through
Poorly written script, for any script to work, there has to be an element of believability. I kept asking myself "who would do any of this stuff in real life?" But Give Sandler credit, his acting has improved greatly over the years. And then Chris Rock, in my opinion, one of the funniest comedians over the last 20 years, and the reason I watched this movie. Unfortunately, he was not funny. Maybe it was the script, but he seemed unmotivated. The funniest parts of the movie were the scenes that Jim Barone (Uncle Seymour) was in... some of it was really laugh out loud hysterical
