St. Trinian's (2007)
What a waste of talent, money, and time!
Those expecting anything remotely like the charming, and funny original, will be sorely disappointed by this offering, as it fails on all counts, most importantly humour. Trotting out sub Benny Hill situations, and cringe worthy outdated lines in a modern context makes any attempts at comedy, or social critique both look and sound ridiculous. I am sure the actors thought themselves amusing as they recklessly camped their way through dire scene after dire scene, despite the recorded efforts proving them totally wrong in their assumptions, and this highlights the main flaw in this movie...laziness, laziness in concept(nicking a film franchise 50 years old), laziness in casting(throwing a motley collection of today's British alleged talent at the project), laziness in performance(it's a comedy so forget about about acting, it's panto time!), and most importantly writing(if I bought the same Christmas crackers the script writers used I would want my money back!) In short this is yet another over-hyped, over blown, self satisfied, contrived piece of nonsense masquerading as comedy from the British film industry.
D.E.B.S. (2004)
Fun but with more intelligence than other lesbian movies.
OK, this film will not win any Oscars, but in what it sets out to do it does brilliantly! On one level it is a frothy, lightweight, silly spoof of "Charlie's angels" etc, but don't let that fool you, because underneath you will find one of the best, most intelligently handled girl/girl romances ever. Even the word lesbian is not used, instead the matter of factness of the girl/girl romance between Jordana Brewster and Sara Foster's characters puts many so called ernest lesbian films to shame! No one dies, or turns psycho, or is cured of lesbianism, no instead the romance is sweet, and just happens to be about 2 girls. See this film, it's smarter and more fun than the snooty critics would have you believe.
Once and Again (1999)
Jessie and Katie should have had a spin off series/special.
Although the standard of the writing and acting in this series leaves other more famous U.S series in the shade, one storyline stands out in my mind, or should I say heart. Jessie & Katie's romance must go down as one of the most thoughtful and poignant relationships in television history, and it is literally a crying shame that this storyline was not allowed to be explored completely in a way that the actresses/writers involved had already proved they could.
I would ask anyone who has any power in TV to see the commercial and artistic merit in bringing these characters back in some format to at least give the massive following they have won around the world(you just have to check the fan sites, merchandising etc) what they, the characters, actresses, writers deserve.
Thanks.
