Sholay (1975)
Brilliant.
So many on here just complaining and most of them with a pre-conceived dislike of bollywood movies, just heard it's highly rated and give it a go. It's long, there's songs and it's camp. It's supposed to be like that and you watch it as entertainment, it's not supposed to be watched as something factual. Plagiarism? Maybe but those westerns were themselves lifted from elsewhere, Kurosawa anyone? If I were to watch The Lion King and in my review said that I just sat through almost two hours of drawing of animals AND THEY TALK!!! Are you kidding me? You get the idea.
Breaking Bad (2008)
Masterpiece!!
There are no superlatives left in the English language that have not been showered on this series, it has won almost every award it possibly can and deservedly so.
Bored of the usual drab I started watching Breaking Bad almost from the beginning after reading a favourable review of the pilot. A few episodes later I was telling people this was the best drama I have ever seen. Don't you mean of late I kept getting asked. Erm no, THE BEST EVER!! Ah come on, ER, Sopranos, The Wire etc etc.
2 Years later everybody was on the same page.
With the series drawing to a close I watched the whole series again from the beginning. The astonishing thing is that not only is it as good as I remembered but each and every episode is a classic. Believe me, you cannot sit down and say this is the stand-out episode of the show. At least a dozen of them would get onto any list of the best episode ever.
If you have never watched it, you're an idiot and put it on your bucket list. If you have, watch it again, second time around it's even better because you know what this innocent, mild-mannered teacher is about to become a few seasons down the line!!!
Maula Jat (1979)
Awesome!!
I saw this movie when it came out 30 odd years ago, I was only a child and remember being blown away by it. It was all the rage and even now when I watch it it remains fresh. One of those movies you can watch repeatedly and never get bored.
The Late great Sultan Rahi was at his absolute peak when this movie was released, Mustafa Qureshi's Noori Nath was arguably an even better character much like Gabbar Singh blew everybody else away in Sholay.
Without question the best movie to ever come out of Pakistan. Great songs coupled with astounding dialogue that elevates this movie to a pedestal few, if any can touch, just as Sholay does in India. Most fans can quote the entire movie from memory.
If there is only one Pakistani movie you will ever watch in your life, make it this one.
