A Legend (2024)
10/10
The most meaningful Chan and Tong collaboration in YEARS!
25 July 2024
It's been a long wait since the summer of 2024 began, but finally, a true entertainment blockbuster has arrived in theaters. A Legend is a triumphant return to the martial arts comedy genre, a testament to the enduring appeal and prowess of Jackie Chan. For fans of his unique blend of martial arts and humor, this film is a thrilling delight.

A Legend excels as a kung-fu comedy, showcasing the genre at its finest. The action sequences, whether set on an ancient battlefield or amidst the modern-day snow and ice, are nothing short of spectacular. Each fight scene is meticulously choreographed and exudes a cool, exhilarating vibe. Whether portraying a 27-year-old warrior in ancient times or a 70-year-old master in the present day, Jackie Chan remains as formidable and charismatic as ever. His ageless agility and charm make one wonder why anyone would dare to challenge him.

Lay Zhang delivers a standout performance, adding an unexpected layer of surprise. Playing Chan's brother in the past and his fervent fan in the present, Zhang masterfully captures the humorous dissonance of their relationship. His transition from a formidable fighter in ancient times to a bumbling, lovable character in the modern era is both endearing and amusing.

The supporting cast also shines. Naza, whose beauty is well-known, proves that she can withstand the scrutiny of the big screen. Her close-ups reveal a flawless, captivating presence, and she impressively holds her own in the action sequences, each sword strike resonating with the audience.

Aarif Rahman, on the other hand, provides much of the film's comic relief. His unique presence, marked by his eyeliner and unexpected comedic timing, elicited genuine laughter. His portrayal is so distinct that it left me wanting to tip him for lamb kebabs every time he appeared on screen.

Without giving away any spoilers, it's worth noting that the ending scene, which ties into The Myth, offers one of the most surprising and delightful Easter eggs of the summer! A Legend is not just a movie; it's an exhilarating experience that reaffirms why Jackie Chan remains a beloved icon in the world of cinema.

Fun Summer Blockbuster!
19 June 2021
This is the third installment in the franchise. It's a lot more of the same, which is not necessarily a bad thing. A lot of the gags in this movie land better for me than the second movie. The second movie was okay for me. This one is better in my book. The mystery is not as strong as the last two entries, but somehow i feel like the plot is better. If you're as into the franchise as I am, it's very satisfying to see everything tie together (especially the tie ins from the IQiyi TV series). You'll see Lin Mo and Noda Hiroshi's brother from the TV show. The movie is very fun and it never seems to slow down. I don't think it hits the highs of the first movie but it's still really good. Check it out!

Vanguard (2020)

Not Jackie's best, but given his age, we can't expect classic Jackie!
4 October 2020
This movie, in my opinion, was a lot better than his previous collaboration with Stanley. Kung Fu Yoga was okay. If you enjoyed that, you'll definitely have a romp with this film. It's the same kind of action heavy but also goofy comedy that you can expect from some of Jackie's movies. His role here is a little more subdued, however, as he lets the other actors take bigger roles. Although he's the highest billed actor here, he plays more of a secondary role as the leader of this agency. That being said, there's enough Jackie in this movie where I don't feel misled. He definitely has more screen time than The Foreigner, another movie where he received top billing but, imo didnt appear enough in the film.

The action is great and it's definitely a good popcorn flick that'll distract you from the ongoing pandemic. It's what the world needs, really!

Mega64 (2004– )

Mega64 is an acquired taste...
26 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This series follows three characters that find themselves stuck in a basement, forced to beta test a video game console known as the Mega64. It's notorious for being extremely experimental, taking players hooked onto it and placing them in a virtual reality in which video games and real life coexist. This is just the premise behind the video game skits they do. Basically, the Mega64 crew parade around in public acting like a bunch of dorks. But something about the story behind it really hits home for me. When I say Mega64 is an acquired taste, I mean it. Their brand of humor is one that doesn't usually appeal to the mainstream but certainly does for me. If you're wondering if this series is right for you, perhaps you should check out their Youtube page. If you laughed at a lot of the videos, then I highly recommend buying the series and checking it out. Though, I have to say. From the time they've created this public access show to now, they've garnered a lot of attention and have made quite the name for themselves in the video game industry. You can see how they've progressed through the course of this series and I await for a fourth series of Mega64. If you want a good story centered around video game culture, Mega64's satirical take on it is definitely worth checking out.
