A Bitter End of Franchise (Spoiler Alert)
19 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I've been following John Rambo's adventure since i was 9 years old. Somehow i can't help myself to feel like this character is destined to only live a bitter life. When Rambo finally came home after his war in Myanmar (Rambo/2008) he also met a family torn apart. He took care Maria and her daughter Gabriella But despite he finally get a beautiful life, his mind never actually at peace. His horror memories keep haunting him. One day, Gabriella left to find his father that left her 10 years ago, only to be abducted by Mexican human trafficking mafia. The next thing, Rambo take this matter into his own hand and make it personal. Actually this last chapter could be more interesting. The story started in ranch belongs to Rambo's father, and the ranch location near US Mexican border - which also one of Trump's campaign. Gabriella's abduction leads to a human trafficking mafia that should be get a large proportion. Sly try to give the emotional moments from his relationship with a mother and her daughter, but this also didn't go well. The one that really absurd was when he decided to approach Martinez brothers HQ - where the whole human trafficking operation held. What a sloppy crazy- move even for a old man, considering Rambo not just an ordinary old man but a highly trained and experienced war veteran. In the end we can only expect for bloody and brutal retaliation, sounds of human flesh get chopped, scream of death. There are only 2 things absolute in this movie : 1) Rambo is a killer machine - 2) Rambo is a King of Misery

Robin Hood (2018)

What a Waste in throw money in style
28 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This Robin Hood really a disgrace.Evan a total failure to even as just a fair rating. 1) Actor's performance : really sucks. I don't see Taron and Eve as Robin & Marian - both too young to play charismatic tactical Robin and the graceful wise Marian. They play like a couple youth in deep romance (and they did it nicely) Jamie Foxx's part even weird with not even close to Arab accent. 2) The plot...too fast...to easy, maybe it meant to be easier for audience to follow (and by the cast i can tell they targeting audience between 17 to under 35) but the plot so messy. 3) The villains plot. All the antagonist character described as racis. They hate Arab (you can conclude it by the time this story occured), The Sherrif pay tax to Roman Church and Kingdom of England as also sent troops to joint Crusade Army to fight Moslems. So why in the hell they can come up with the idea that secretly The Sherrif & The Cardinal conspired to use the taxes money from peasant and nobles to hired troops from Arab so in time the Cardinal can execute a coup d'etat against the throne. To make the plan succeed you hundreds of thousands of troops accros the sea passing Spain, France waters through English Channel and then straight to London or keep on to North Sea land at the beach somewhere maybe at The Fens and walk to Nottingham then go down to London? That also mean that all the Arab troops has to leave their home to help a pair of corrupt Sherrif and a Cardinal to overthrown the King of England - while their land (Middle East) were under siege by hundreds of thpusand s of Crusade Army.

4) Robin Hood is well known is a tactical fighter...i don't see any

The only thing that amuse that this 2018 Robin Hood action scene executed more stylish especially when you see Robin Hood can shoot multiple arrows while jump high before his feet touch the ground.

A Complete Horror Movie Flick
22 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is on my personal "WATCHLIST" since the 1st time the production house launch a photograph that i tought "SUZANNA" (Indonesia Queen of Horror).Turn out it's photograph of Luna Maya - Indonesian actress (nominated for Indonesia Movie Festival 2007 for movie "Ruang" or "Space"). The story is very simple. Suzanna & Satria has married for 5 years, and when finally Suzanna get pregnant, her husband assigned to Japan for few days for business trip. At the same time some of workers who hold grudge agianst their factory manager (Satria) planned to rob the house while nobody supossed to be at home, but then they caught up in the act by Suzanna. She tried to runaway but then she stabbed by a long sharp bamboo and buried while she is still breathing. To those perperators, Suzanna is dead. But in that house Suzanna is still pretty very much alive and late at night she is haunting those who killed her one by one. I'm quite satisfied with this movie. The duo director succeeded to deliver a horror movie with classic approach - exploited the fear, frustation all the antagonist characters that being haunted by the ghost of Suzanna. This movie didn't give too many jumpscare but it put a balance of drama, thriller and horror in one good symphony. So far i only see 2 minor flaws : 1) the body of Suzanna that already buried about a week it supposed to be already decomposed, but looks like just buried 1 night 2)the time setting is 1980s, but they use 1970s car model, probably is harder to find Suzuki Jimny or Datsun Retro. BUT... generally I like the detail of art direction, the wardrobe, the hairstyle. Room interiors, furnitures. Audiens also can get to know all character that connected to the main character in the story. It succeeded mixed comedy in between the terror from haunting Suzanna. I also give credit to Luna Maya that once again prove her self as a talented actress (she was nominated for BEST ACTRESS at INDONESIA MOVIE FESTIVAL 2007 in movie titled "RUANG" or "ROOM" in English). She really performed naturally as like the late Suzanna (Indonesia Legendary Horror Actor/1942-2008). Her gesture, expression, smile, walk, waving...all as if i see SUZANNA alive again. This is a complete horror movie that should be considered as Indonesia modern cult horror movie. U will get drama, comedy, tragedy in the same package. Rate? 8/10THEY BRING HER BACK TO LIFE

A Deeper, Darker Sci Fi Horror
25 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The sequel to Prometheus opens with a flashback when Weyland succeeded created an android named David. This David that accompanied Weyland to search the greatest mystery of human kind. At the end of the Prometheus Elizabeth Shaw is the only survivor along with David that she saved. many years later, a colony spaceship - Covenant - sent to search an alternative planet for human kind - along with an android crew named Walter but then an accident caused life casualties include Cap.Jacob Branson (James Franco) and some colony. The leadership falls to Oram (Billy Crudup) to lead them all to the paradise planet without give any chance for the crew to mourn and shows no empathy for Daniels (the widow). When they catch signal from a hidden planet, Oram decided to change course - with the official objection from Daniels as the second highest officer. And so they landed, but still Daniels still feel uncomfortable for this green planet hide something mysterious. So, Oram brings his exploration team along to explore and to find the source of the signal monitored by Upworth,Ricks & Tennesse from the outer. So,then two of the member secretly infected by pathogen and less then half hour, they real nightmare begins. In the middle of chaos, David the revealed to safe them...are they really save? I was a fan of Alien movies (Only Alien 1979 and Aliens 1986 - the rest Alien?Trash!!!). Ridley brings out this Alien dark scifi saga alive back from the very beginning starts with Prometheus where at the end of the movie there are only 1 human survivor, Dr.Shaw and she saved David too. In this sequel to Prometheus, the screenplay put more emotion between main characters and more of scary horrifying form of aliens such as deadly pathogen that can turn DNA of the host in less then 1 hour and breeds new life form from inside it's host body. I really love this new kind of horrifying alien form, and how Alien:Covenant build the characters that supposed to be very competent but then easily torn apart and treacherous. And Ridley successfully drag audience to follow all the way to finally acquainted with the alien that the first time Ridley brought to screen in 1979 (xenomorph) that David called so as the perfect creation. But, somehow i think that the parasite pathogen that scattered everywhere in that green horror planet is more scary and more efficient to breed vicious alien,. And by the way why the rest of the crews not showing any surprise that they just saved by a person that looks exactly as Walter? And there is not even conversation between them and David where he's came from...the connection between him and the spaceship. But i impressed the landscape shot on the green mysterious planet..and how perfectly Daniels express her wonder that they hear not a sound of birds or animal. If this planet has everything that all living creatures on earth need to start a new beginning...if this planet is a paradise..why they see nothing but just a sound of waterfall from afar. What i actually feel about this sequel is that Ridley bring this Alien saga into a new whole dimension of scifi horror...that still left questions unanswered...even since the Prometheus..why? the big giant bald pale skin hated human?that is a big question that still running around in my head. And Fasbender successfully performed as 2 android characters at the same time the sympathetic Walter and the psychopath genius David (psychopath? David is a robot for haven sake...no words can describe this). Finally, this... Ridley really escalate his Alien saga not just into a deeper and darker alien movie but a step closer bringing Alien as a new legend in the film making history

Headshot (II) (2016)

A Delicious Top Nocht Action Served in Thrilling Trays.
13 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Iko Uwais ("Merantau" "The Raid" and "The Raid 2") – again – presents us a high thrill action saga. a young man (Iko Uwais) found drifted on the beach of a small city somewhere in Java island Indonesia – coma. And for about 2 months a young sweet doctor Ailin (Chelsea Islan) has ben taking care of him, even named him Ishmael (a character name from Mobydick novel) since he got no identity. Then one day he wake up and don't know who is he, how he got bullet wounded in the head (and still some pieces of bullet projectiles inside his head that sometimes gives him a headache). Ailin then ask him to go with her to Jakarta, where there is some hospital have the new technology equipment to get these projectiles inside his head.

In the same time, the rumour of his existence has spread and heard by a ruthless kingpin (drugs and gun dealers) – Lee then realize that one of his assassin named Abdi that he ordered to executed by Rica (Julie Estelle) is still alive. Soon, Lee send 2 of his young assassins along with some thughs to follow Ishmael and Ailin but only to find out that Ishmael/Abdi is still not on the bus.So they kidnapped Ailin and a 10 years old girl along after off course killed all the other passengers in cold blood. Ailin still managed to call Ishmael/Abdi.

Then Ishmael/Abdi took an oath that he must find and rescue Ailin, then he got his chance after he got busted by police patrols that arrived after Ishmael/Abdi killed 4 thughs that send back to burn the bus. Lee send Tejo (Indonesia wu shu national champion) and Tano (Zack Lee) to a district police office to kill Ishmael/Abdi, and so the journey of hunting begins where all the hunters become the hunted and all the mystery of who is Ishmael/Abdi and his connections with the kingpin Lee and all other young assassins revealed.

Actually, there is nothing special about the plot line, it's not complicated, not rushing, but the directors (Mo Brothers – who wellknown for directing gore thriller movies like "Killers" and off course the winner of LA Screamfest Horror Film Festival and International Horror and Sci Fi Film Festival of Phoenix, Arizona "Rumah Dara" or a.k.a "Macabre") really manage to keep it what I say "somehow low profile". Even though there is a love chemical between Ishmael/Abdi and Ailin, this movie doesn't fall into some cheap romantic moments, but also doesn't show stronger love emotions between them. Except – on my humble opinion – the plot line gives more space to explore the emotional connection between Ishmael/Abdi and his 2 former best companion : Besi- in English " Iron" – (Very Tri Yulisman – Indonesia Pencak Silat athlete) and Rica (Julie Estele – Indonesia senior actress). And the interesting is they emotional connection shown among the one on one battle, there is compassion, emphaty mixed into one that then separated by different way of life that each of them choose.

The acting seems average..every single actor try to blend in their character and just fit in. Most of them didn't show any emotional fellings like Iko Uwais, Julie Estelle and Very because they raised in brutal way since they about 10 - 12 years old.

And even though the final battle between Ishmael/Abdi versus Lee (Danny Pang) is the most brutal, but what I saw that the battle between Ishmael/Abdi versus Besi/Iron (expert with iron stick weapon) and marathon with the battle between Ishmael/Abdi versus Rica that really sparks some emphaty in my head. And another positive points is that the way this movie took angle shot from top from the fight between Ishmael/Abdi vs Besi and Ishmael/Abdi vs Lee. Even though the fight is fast but still we can still catch the art of every deadly movement. Brutal and beautiful.

Finally, "Headshot" from Mo Brother is A Delicious Top Nocht Action Served in Thrilling Trays (B)

" The plot didn't gives enough kick, but it is told beautifully and magically entertaining "
30 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
" The plot didn't gives enough kick, but it is told beautifully and magically entertaining "

An awkward young Englishman - Newt Scamander go to New York with a magic suitcase filled with many magic creatures (some of them beasts) just to find another magical beasts to study. His ambition is that all wizard knows how to treat magical beasts.

Off course in 1927, no internet, but Newt is definitely a very clumsy young wizard, I bet he never ask for a second opinion at least from his professors in Hogwards before he go. Then he met a No Maj (muggle : a non wizard) – Kowaslki, a funny fat nice wanna be pastries businessman guy. A sloppy wizard meet the hilarious no-maj….when one of Newt's collection manage to get out from this old suitcase (well he could've switch a better suitcase) - and the commotion starts. And just when Newt about to obliviate (put a no-maj not remember a thing about anything magical) Kowalski knock Newt's out and run away with his (Newt's) suitcase.

Then the story goes Newt met Goldstein a formerly "police" (she just relieved for from her position from an auror into a regular clerk), but then Goldstein decide to help Newt despite realize what kind of punishment that awaiting. And what happen to Kowalski? Well, all the beasts got out from the suitcase – even he bitten by one of it. Meanwhile New York is been hunting by several strange unexplained phenomenon that put all wizards into worries and Newt's beasts can cause an open war between human and wizards.

Then also an auror - Graves (Collin Farell) that recruit a wanna be wizard boy who's adopted by a wizard hater to find a special gifted kid with a great power. Well then this movie goes into a hilarious beasts hunting.

Now, here I go. There is a high expectation as I decide to watch this movie about 3 months ago. Come on, this a Harry Potter prequel. Even though I have never read a single book of JK Rowling. But I have so much respected about Harry Potter movies. But let's cut to the chase :

1. This movie is much lighter then Harry Potter – well like I said, I never read any of JK Rowling's book – but it doesn't mean this Fantastic Beasts turn into a cheap wizard adventure movie – it's kinda like enjoying a Belgian hot chocolate in the cozy afternoon. 2. Well, this light delivering of JK Rowling somehow surprise me..but I don't mind at all, only that the whole plot didn't give enough kick to the mystery level that I hope, but then again somewhere Director David Yates successfully put the mystery moments not in the plot but I feel it inside the character between Graves and the relation between them. 3. Yet, this movie is really colorful..it's fun, tickling when I see the emotional connection between Newt – Kowalksi – Tina Goldstein and her elder sister Queenie. Dan Fogller really succeeded blended with this Kowalksi character – this Kowalksi in so many parts steal so much attention. While Eddie Redmayer – well he really bring up the sloppy Newt. 4. Even all the creatures have an individual personality that brought up so well.

Well, what can I say..but this "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is under it's weight but this fantasy tales is very delightful and fun" (B)

The promising action thriller movie succeeded deliver emotional bond between characters
26 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Enter the 2nd movie of Lee Child's Jack Reacher "Never Go Back". Adaptaded from one of the best of Jack Reacher's. It all starts Jack Reacher arrested for beat the hell up 3 or 4 men outside of a café in small town. Reacher didn't run,but sit there – maybe ordered a cup of coffee or waffle – we don't know. But he just sit there till a sheriff arrived and order his deputy to arrest Reacher. But Reacher is so calm and say that a public phone on the wall will ring in 90 seconds and the sheriff will going to jail instead. The sheriff underestimated him, made fun of him that Reacher is one hell of a prophecy and just a second before his deputy walk Reacher outside, the phone rang. And it happened, 3 MP cars arrived and arrest the sheriff (along with his friends that Reacher already beat the hell up) for a serious crime committed in the land property of US Army.

So,Reacher call Major Turner, a middle rank MP Officer who he informed about that sheriff, and Reacher is about to take a visit and if lucky he might get a date, but then when he arrived it was somebody else sit on the desk, Colonel Morgan that informed him that Major Turner has been arrested for espionage. Reacher didn't buy it, his got telling him that something might went wrong. Then Reacher find a way to meet Turner's appointed lawyer Col.Moorcroft, instead of minimum information, Moorcroft gave him another information that after he left the service as an MP, a suit has been addressed to US Army to pay child subvention by Candance Dayton a mother to Samantha, Candace claimed that Samantha is Reacher's daughter – which Reacher denied, but still he stole Samantha's photo, and before he left he satirize Moorcroft's. Reacher begin to find for Samantha, they both met but Reacher didn't tell her why is he following her.

Finally Moorcroft follow his conscience to inform Reacher that something awkward in Turner's case, but an ex military soldier – the hunter- came by and killed him. Then Reacher blamed for Moorcroft's dead and arrested, and for worse an MP officer Cap. Espin – who hold grudge – that Reacher once hold his rank promotion with "thoughless" act judgment. But it's not Recaher if then he decided to lose himself from Espin, and release Turner from her cell block, just after 2 of unknown personnel entered the cell to kill her. Both manage to runaway, and became a couple of fugitive an at a time both marked for death, and on the run Reacher found out that Samantha also marked, because Samantha allegedly is his daughter, and then three of them must play hid and seek from town to town.

As both Reacher and Turner digged out that a weapon contractor – Parasource- is involved in the killing of Turner's subordinates whom she sent to Afghanistan to investigate. And this time Reacher is running against time to find out what kind of conspiracy happen and to protect Samantha a girl allegedly his daughter.

This is the second movie from Jack Reacher's character - even though Tom Cruise is not exactly as Lee Child's profile- but seems like Tom manage to present his own image as Jack Reacher – kind like Harrison Ford did as Jack Ryan in Tom Clancy's Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.

What I like in this movie area : the chemistry bond between these 3 characters, Reacher-Tuner and Samantha. How the arguing between Reacher and Turner about who will go out finding some clue while someone has to take care of Samantha – and it's all about male – female equality, and gave me glimpse about Turner's character background that she was so sick about the way all men treat women in all field.

Edward Zwick work the chemistry between Reacher and Turner very good, that's sometime Turner shows the shrouded ego to prove that she also can solve their big problem as well as Reacher. And in just a little while then she couldn't hide her symphaty, her admiration, her desire on Reacher – that behind he hard attitude she admit that she really can count on Reacher alone.

I also like the chemistry between Reacher and Samantha, how Reacher it's kind of stranded between his confidence that Sam is not his daughter and at the same time for the first time he feels his fatherhood inside, that he will do anything to protect her.

So this is a little bit awkward, this is an action thriller movie – I'm not saying that this movie is not thrill enough – but it's nothing so great about for the action pack, and the hand to hand combat – which is good enough, but I feel like even though you don't have to make it like a mindless moves, I think they should learn some of martial arts like jujitsu, pencak silat, kick boxing and karate, cause I don't really see that in both sequel.

But still, all credits given to Tom Cruise, Cobie Smulders and Danika Yarosh that give soul in this movie.

My conclusion is Jack Reacher : Never Go Back is an up to level from the first Jack Reacher (a.k.a One Shot in novel version), closer as the promising action thriller movie succeeded delivered emotional bond between characters but still halfway from it's original book - since Never Go Back is one of Lee Child's Jack Reacher Top 10 Best.

A Calm Drama Thriller Movie With Effective Deadly Moves
18 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Wolf's family : husband and wife with their two kids visit a school for autistic with the hope that they will find a solution for Christian.

In present day…Christian Wolf (Ben Affleck) is a already the owner of C.P.A office "ZZZ Accountant", one day he helps old couples with tax problems, and he settled it for them, these old couples so happy then offered him their ranch so he can do his hobby : shooting…anytime he want to. Then, comes the offer from LivingRobotics C.E.O and owner Lamar Black (John Lightgow) to get a very close look to all booking, and on the process he get acquainted with this junior accounting staff, Dana Cummings (Anna Kendricks)

Meanwhile, a soon will be retired Treasury Department agent Raymond King (J.K Simmons) assigns an analyst Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) to investigate a mysterious person that always caught by a surveillance camera in several countries along with some international criminals. Medina accept this job reluctantly under King's threat, that he will revealed her dark covered past that will put her in jail for good.

As the investigations goes, Wolf share his finding on the company 15 years booking with Dana, that something is wrong with the bookings. That now and then there's a leak, and to where did those leakage go? How?And why? But this leakage finding only just bring in Brax a vicious assassin into action. Then, Lamar stop Chris to stop the booking investigation.Chris cannot accept that. He begins to anxious because he must finish his job. Whatever he started must finished perfectly. Without his knowledge, a reservation is made on him. Brax and his team will execute them both. But only to find out that The Accountant not just an accountant that really good calculating with numbers of books, but also expert on calculating a person's lifetime. When Chris found out that a contract also made on Dana, he went mad and star a rampage killings.

This Christian Wolf character is really unique, who once just an autism boy,but then grew up with a career as an accountant, not in a big reputation company but work with high profile most wanted international dangerous criminals. And the screenplay is so clever keep a question (I don't know if other audiences sense this) how the hell a man with end up in a dark career like this, some audiences perhaps begin to question this when viewed Christian Wolf once service in US Army more then 10 years before. Ben Affleck acting – not an Oscar level – but show a maturity from time to time, I admit that for quiet a while it's look like I see a bit shadow of Bruce Wayne from his eye look. He looks so convincing to perform when this character snap for the first time related to his job as an accountant. The emotions he hold between him and Dana, the sudden bumbling when he wave bye to the couple old husband and wives after he save them from being hostage by 2 hit men that sent to kill him (he killed the 2 hit men with cold blood). At this parts looks like I've shown Chris transform from a thorough autism shy bashful accountant into another persona :skillful killer with no remorse.

Anna Kendrick also a good choice to perform Dana Cummings, a junior accountant staff with warm personality, simple and sincere. She is the first person after so many years that give him a deep impression and make him care much, deep enough to defend her with all his got. He will stop at nothing to keep her alive. I enjoy the chemistry build bit by bit between this 2 characters.

Other thing that I like so much about this movie is that like I watch several stand alone movies in 1 packet kind like several mini spin off stories inside main story. The family, 2 Treasury Department agents, Christian Wolf and his interaction with Dana, the ruthless assassin Brax. But all goes smooth into one direction, and I said to my self "Woww..what is going down? And then finally "What the hell?"

I also gave credit to all support cast, J.K Simmons plays character Kings solidly as an uncompromising superior that will do anything to gain his will. Chyntia Addai Robinson also give her good play as a Treasury agent under pressure. And John Berthal already gave very nasty impression since the beginning until his character

Then I browse about the director, then I struck on movie "Warrior" (Joe Edgerton and Tom hardy), I already saw that movie, a very emotion touch sport drama. Gavin O Connor gave a very good piece of work that he combined drama, violence and inter- characters conflict as a wholesale spectacle to us. And he did it again.

And another thing, since I'm from Indonesia, I really surprise this movie use #PencakSilat and #BahasaIndonesia. When the father train his sons pencaksilat under professional trainer, the trainer suggested to had enough training for that day, but the father insist with a reason that he must know his sons limit and it's the trainer job to find out. And the young Chris said "Tak apa apa, lanjutkan saja" (It's alright, keep continues). Then it's just like a moment for young Chris to find himself that day, to overcome his autism to face life.

My conclusion is this, with all those premises, stand alone stories that the script give, all it takes just one emphatic reason to bring out the action. Kinda cliché but, you don't need any difficult reason for a personality with autism background to defend what he care for. Finally, The Accountant is a calm thriller with effective deadly moves. It's really #GoodWillHuntingMeetJackReacher. Rate : 8/10

A dark fantasy that failed to deliver
5 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I know Tim Burton's name for the first time when I saw "Batman" (1989) (his work such as Beetlejuice never imported to Indonesia), and I saw several of his outstanding piece of work such as "Edward Scissorhands" "Sleepy Hollow" "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" "Alice in Wonderland" and "Sweeny Todd". From my experience Tim Burton's "peculiar" that he is very strong in visualization. It's kinda like a child's unstoppable wild imagination. So I expected so much from this movie This movie is about a community of human with special abilities that choose an awkward way to live their live, repeat one day life by creating magic loop These humans are children with special abilities that under protection of an adult protector. The film starts with Jake Portman (Asa Butterfield), a regular teenager living in suburban Florida with his awful parents and also a worker in supermarket. Since he was about 4 or 5 years old, he already been told a fantastic adventure story by his grandfather Abe (Terence Stamp), that Abe admit is his real life adventure. As years goes by, Jake's torn apart between his believe in Abe's story and the science that he learn at school that there are no such things as multi tentacle tongue monsters or children with special abilities. But these stories about monsters and "special children" suddenly seem like they might hold some dark truth to them after one night he found out his grandfather Abe killed with both his eyes taken. Before Abe take his last breath, still manage to ask Jake (he always call his grandson Tygritus – Tiger in Polland) to go to Wales and find Miss Peregrine. And the story goes, that finally Jake found the house only to find out that the house already burnt down on Germany bombing in Sep 3rd 1943, driven by his curiosity he entered that house and meet these peculiar children accidentally. These children then brought him to a place and magically he swan his own eyes the same house his grandfather told him about, in the same place that he know that already blown away by Germany bomber plane. Then Jake meet Miss Peregrine (Eva Green) who is capable of transforming herself into a falcon and the ability to manipulated time – which she is not the only one that can do this.Miss Peregrine has been able so far to preserve in an endless cycle (like one of Tom Cruise sci-fi movie "Edge of Tomworrow") the day prior to the fatal bombing by creating secret magic "loops" in exact time. Then Emma (Ella Purnell), the sweet blonde who has to wear lead heavy boot so she doesn't fly away. There's Olive (Lauren McCrostie), the redhead who has to wear gloves cause There's the girl with a ravenous mouth hidden on the back of her head. The invisible boy "Wilard"who likes to play tricks. The 8 years old girl who can make things grow super fast. The 12 years old boy who can use his eyeball to project image and finally the weird masked twins (and wear a weird costume). Frankly I got a very big hope for this movie, that I wish this movie is more then just some human with special abilities torn in good and bad side (oups...does this sound like X Men?), but turn out to be "X-Kids". In my personal opinion this movies shouldn't take 2 hours, because almost one hour the visionary Tim Burton failed to develop mystery chemistry into the mind of audience, even though Tim already succeeded snap my mind through the tragedy of Abe death and the creepy glance of Baroon (Samuel L.Jackson) in the first 15 minutes, but then my curiosity is just like vaporized into the air.

Tim Burton waste to much time to explore things that I think is not even matter to much for this movie that even didn't work well – like the emotional between Emma and Jake or the supper. I think is a bit better if Tim just cut it to the chase where Emma finally proof that to Jake that he also a peculiar kid (Jake can see things what others can't).

If there are things that this movie do is the well done performance of Eva Green as Miss Peregrine. She played the character in such style, and since I and many most of audience in my town never read the book – Eva succeeded gave us a cruel Miss Peregrine in mind, her performance really gorgeous with dark gown, really portray a vigilante, wise and always beware lady killer. And so Samuel L.Jackson, that not just soft lens for evil eyes – as usual his long experience that made all that gesture that he is so evil. The rest? Well, they play along, not bad, but just play along. The action parts? The only thing that still eye catching is the multi tentacle tongue monsters and a little bit surprise the weird twin kids really have deadly abilities.

Then Chisolm recruits another six persons, first he recruited Faraday (Chris Pratt), a gambler drinker handsome big mouth but with excellent skills of card magic, then a sharp shooter with stress post traumatic disorder Goodnight Robicheaux a.k.a Angel of Death (Ethan Hawke),also a former Confederation along with his sidekick Billy Rocks (Byung Hun Lee), a very fast Chinese gunman, but faster and deadlier with blades (Byung Hun Lee actually a Korean actor),then Chisolm recruited a Mexican outlaw Vasques (Manuel Garcia Rulfo). After then they together recruited an ex Indian hunter, the legendary John Horne (Vincent D' Onofrio), and an Indian Comanche warrior with his noble principals, Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeir). Chisolm didn't waste much time, he and his 6 compatriots killed 22 Bouge's best gunmen and sent the town sheriff to inform Bouge, gather the town's citizens to choose, stay and fight to death or leave. These 7 men only have 3 days to prepare the city before Bogue and his hundreds of army to rush them all. This is the 2nd remake of Akiro Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" after John Sturges "The Seven Magnificent" (1960). If 1960's version is more focus to the 7 gunmen with the citizens, Fuqua's version is upgraded into a whole new level, all thanks to Pazollato and Wenk's screenplay that create the citizen's despair, but Chisolm and his men manage to turn the citizen's fear of Bouge into the fear of lost everything they ever dream for, lost for they pride. Pazolatto and Wenk also manage to put some humor in some parts.

The screenplay smartly deliver us the story of a group of men that some of them with background that give them enough emotional reason to kill each other, e.g John Horne (ex Indian Hunter), Red Harvest (Indian Comanche), Faraday (his grandfather killed by Mexican gang), Vasquez (his grandfather was a member of Mexican gang that ambush Faraday's grandfather's town), but they bound together with one purpose, a noble purpose. Why?Cauze for another 5 men (beside Chisolm and Red Harvest) each of them have they own past to reconcile with, wanna make piece to their own soul before the next battle that could be their last one by take the impossible job. But off course the the last tiny element of surprise from Chisolm about his personal agenda, he has his very own personal reason why he finally take this job, that left me a question : Maybe this one flaw on this Mag7? Why? Because, why Chisolm rejected the offering from Emma, and declared that he himself is not for sale.but then he take the job when he found Emma will pay him – even all at once- with everything she got. Or maybe is just Chisolm eager to know how far would this widow go to seek righteousness or even revenge? If she would go a long the way, then Chisolm had a good reason to recruit the men he need.

This Mag7 only give as much as a glance of each person's historical background, through their dialogues. Except for Robicheaux, this character get a little more exposed and curiosity what the hell happen to him after North and South war that make him hate himself so much after all act that he has committed during North and South war, that make him a very flimsy man. Denzel is really perform great his character cool bad ass, while Pratt represent enthusiasm and the spirit of this movie. Ethan Hawke (this is the 2nd time he team up with both Denzel and Fuqua) gave audiences skepticism about what will happen to this team. The rest of the cast, even didn't get portion as much as Denzel (off course, he is the man) or Ethan Hawke and Pratt – especially Martin Sensmier get the smallest portion – but they're all represent an assembled excellent marksmen (some of them have horrible dirty little secrets) to march as one into a battle for one descent good noble cause. Haley Bennet performances represent as young widow search for the last hope and an attitude to face all odds at all cost for he dignity since her husband gunned down in cold blood by Bouge (Saargards appearance really gives the impression as the sick man). I also give credit to the cinematography that shots all gunfight scenes so perfectly, how Mauro Fiore took the angle to describe the brutality of Bouge's gold mine from distance.

Fuqua's Mag7 is not one of classical western movie, but It's superbly done…and magnificently delivered to us, magically entertaining from beginning till end. Even though this movie might don't have what all critics wants to be as classical but still will be remembered as one of the most entertaining, enjoyable western.. Really as the quotes of the dialogues between Chisolm and Robicheaux "What we lost in the fire, we found in the ashes"

Solid Action Packed But Easily Forgotten
30 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Never though that Statham will perform as Bishop again after The Mechanic in 2011 (that was a disappointment). The reason that i wanna see this sequel is the cast. Is not just Statham alone but along with Tommy Lee Jones (Academy Award winner), Jessica Alba and international martial actress from Malaysia - Michelle Yeoh.

The story begins with Bishop that begin to enjoy his retirement - tired and sick of all the murderers he planned but then a beautiful Thai girl approached him and offering 3 jobs or get killed. but off course Bishop easily handled this girl and the thugs she bring along with her through a brutal hand combat and escape.

Then Bishop move far away to Thailand and warmly welcomed by his old friend - Mei (Michelle Yeoh). Then soon Bishop reluctantly have to save an attractive girl - Gina (Jessica Alba) whom being beaten by a guy named Frank - just to find out that all was just a set up to spying on him. But, Bishop got another plan, since he already know who behind all this, he intend to finish this once and for all.

Then Bishop meet Crain, a man who hold his grudge upon Bishop for so long - but want Bishop to do 3 hard tasks - murder high profiles villains - but with his expertise - the killing must look like accident.

Bishop easily finished his 2 first tasks - but then he realized that Crain got something behind this all schemes. So,he decide to collaborate with the 3rd target - Max Adams (Tommy Lee Jones), the most powerful gun dealers in all Europea Continent.

Again, that this sequel still far from my expectation. I was hope that this sequel will bring more escalation on every aspect, the characters, the conflicts, character development. But, turn out to be only 2 element added to this sequel 1)Bishop's love story and 2)action package.

I do really like some "humour" elements inserted but still not enough to make me Laugh Out Loud. Also i was really keen when Bishop finally find out that Gina reluctantly "working" for Crain, but then just so easily Bishop finally fall in love with Gina. A person like Bishop.

I really enjoy when Bishop create the accident to kill Cook. And that was really original idea (at least from where i belong).

But the funny thing is : the terms of the assignment was the killing must 100% look like accident or Crain will kill Gina. The 1st task was done not really look like accident.

The other thing, i always enjoy Tommy Lee Jones perform as Max Adams. His performance reminds me of his perform in Under Siege...eccentric but i can feel the vicious behind it. But then, that just it..this sequel didn't give enough space to develop Max's character.

Guess, The Mechanic Resurrcetion is just another typical action movie will be soon forgotten as you put your feet into your doorstep or maybe soon as you leave the building.

The hard effort to keep the harmony of each issues that really come close as an epic, but still leave me some satisfifaction
8 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is one of the most i personally anticipated this year. The reason is that my curiosity of what exactly happened to whale ship Essex. The other reason is Ron Howard,he is one of the most highly respected movie director.back in 1980's era i've seen the movie "Cocoon" and in 1991 "Backdraft". I really impressed by Backdraft cause the way the director describe the fire is like a living persons that breath and ready to burn and destroy everything. That fire also can be a very dangerous weapon.Guess all the moviegoers must remember The Da Vinci Code. The thing that i saw in Backdraft is recurred again in Ron Howard's new movie. Set back in 1820 when the Essex whale ship's voyage must face the deadly assault by a 90 feet sperm whale. This movie stars based the storytelling by Tom Nickerson-the only ex crew of Essex that still alive- to a novel writer Herman Melville.A young novelist that have this ambition to write one of the most spectacular fiction adventure novel ever written. A whale ship that sail under the navigation of Captain Pollard (Benjamin Walker)-a captain by ancestry and off course lack of experience- assist by Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth)1st Class Sailor-who also reluctantly but have no choice but to accept this task by the owner of Essex ship.Takes a very short time for this 2 character involved in psychological war between them.At first Essex managed to catch a whale, but after a few months of traveling, where food stocks thinning finally Chase and Pollard decided to divert the direction of the ship towards the path of tropical waters of the Pacific-after hearing the story of a Ship Captain Spain who survived the attack from 90 feet white whale. However, both Chase and Pollard ignored the warning from the Spanish Captain. A decision based on ambition and greed which then carry Essex into a catastrophe. they only imagine hundreds of whales on display in front of the eyes waiting to be hunted and brought home 2000 gallons of whale oil.And then, Essex was brutally attacked by a whale with a size that was never imagined by them. Essex ship was sinking to the bottom of the Pacific ocean. And crew who survived the attack separated into three boats had to live in the shadow of a very painful death.Stranded in tropical oceans where sunlight stings during daytime as whole body skin burns. In the course to survive, all the crew had to face moral dilemmas by do the abomination or die slowly in pain. Once again Ron Howard managed to do what he's really excel, the whale that destroyed the Essex described not only as a ferocious monster but as a god of the ocean, the whale protectors of human greed. Internal conflicts between cockiness Pollard as the ship's captain and Chase as a seaman 1st class who is an expert in calculating weather and sharper instincts. A little unfortunate that this film only lasted 2 hours which I think is not enough time for Ron Howard to explore the burden of the old Tom Nickerson who have to live for decades with terrible memories. Also not enough time to explore the mental burden of the young novelist Melville (Whisaw). And looks like Ron Howard strive very hard to share a story segment. Even if the film is not a masterpiece but I feel satisfaction in watching this movie. Even if all the actors act well, but it is the whale measured 90 feet that steal the show.Whale is described as being so characterized, the authority that gives lessons so valuable that a knowledge sometimes requires sacrifice so heartbreaking. Ambitions that humans will someday be stopped by the might of the children of nature.

Spectre (I) (2015)
7/10
Easily Stylish,Swift even thought with a little bit lost of consistency of Skyfall concept
18 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This movie opens with Bond's solo mission hunting down Siaccra (the we found out that Siaccra is the last message of previous M) in the middle of "The Day of the Dead" parade of Mexico City. Bond's successfully fulfilled this unofficial mission after a breathtaking chase and fight inside helicopter in the air killed all his enemies.Bond also manage to steal Sciarra ring with an octopus logo.Bond got suspended for his action even though M realize that this unofficial mission prevent the mass bombing scenario. But,he is not stopping at all, this is only the beginning of his personal mission. Siaccra's death leads Bond to a gorgeous Italian widow Lucia Siaccra (Monica Belluci),and this gorgeous lonely that need a protector tips Bond about her late husband meeting point. And Bond didn't need waste time and directly entered the meeting point easily and finally not just see the face of Spectre's leader but surprisingly this person has connection with Bond's childhood. Frankly i hope Spectre is going to be the greatest Bond ever made - better than Skyfall. But i must admit there are few things that i felt that should be explore. When the leader of Spectre revealed himself to Bond, that really shocked and i think scared the hell out Bond, is one of the best momentum. When this Spectre mysterious leader Ernst Stavro Bloveld enter the room, sudden this large meeting hall become so chill, filled with fear, we only hear his voice that gives the feel of terror. But this momentum didn't maintained well. I think the story should explore more "space" for psychological battle between Bond and Ernst (a.k.a Franz Oberhauser that believed is dead decades ago in an accident that also killed Franz father). In Skyfall audiences were shown the psychological condition between love and hatred of Raoul Silva (ex 00 agent went rough who seek revenge for being abandoned and left for dead after Raoul's personal mission almost jeopardize the handover Hongkong from England back to China back in 1997). Maybe that Sam Mendez already to tired to explore this psychological things.Or just wanna focus on Bond's mission that really wanna put his misery to an end, cause Ernst recognition that for this past few years Bond's misery for the lost all that he love so much and devoted to is taken away by Ernst all along behind his collaborator in crime. This is the most apparent weakness of this Spectre. Craig performance is great, he can easily combined the drama side of this Bond character. Monica Belluci short performance but still can steal a few moments. I also give credit to Ben Whisaw as Q. and off course Waltz performance is good but not as strong as Javier's performance as villain in Skyfall. But however the early of Waltz's character appear is the best highlight in Spectre.

Another Holiday turns To Screamingday
15 June 2015
I went to the best cineplex-theater (multi studio theaters) in my hometown with a lot of expectations. Took me about 14 years after the 3rd (dissapointed) sequel.I though it will be no more another sequel ever since. The movie starts with a Gray & Zach go to Jurassic World,so they can spent their holiday with they auntie Claire who is a somekinda Operation Manager. This JW present some new dino, like Mosasaurus (a gigantic crocodile). And even children can ride some species of dinos.JW even ready to introduce Indominus Rex which can be about 15 metres height. But,then accident happens. And Owen must rally all his abilities to save this two brothers get out alive along with Claire.

Among his efforts he neglectly joined ACU team led by Hoskins, which has his won agenda and force Owen to use his raptors to terminate the I-Rex.

A)What i really like about this movie is 1. This sequel is a direct plot, straight to the point. To thrill audiens. 2. I love the idea about the hybrid new dino, Indominus Rex which is more clever, more vicious, cam climb a wall, even can change it's skin colors like a chameleon (invisible),so this dino is really lethal.

B)What i don't like about this sequel? Actually 1 minor thing. How the hack can you run with your high heels on with a T-Rex behind you. That's what really annoys me.

The idea that human finally can take limited control of some raptors is a bit too much, cause scientifically,it tooks minimum 4 generation of human to finally can take limited control on some beast like cheetah. But i can take that.

C)The story?A cliché.A holiday turns to be screaming day.

But generally, this sequel is really thrilling. When this movie ends, i still keep thinking what kinda new dino will be introduce to us.
