Entertaining

As usual with most Australian films, the story line is very different. The casualness of the style with the weight of the film being presented by the vision, missed telling me what was happening a couple of times. Left the cinema still answering the questions asked. Did feel I needed a bit more in the way of answers given to me though. Acting was excellent , very quickly lost my expectation of known characters roles & embraced the new story rapidly. The structure of town, people & their lives were simply & beautifully presented. The use of aerials helped cement characters & culture of small outback town wonderfully, as did the simple style of presenting different cultural landscapes within the one time. Great movie, will be watching again

Outstanding use of the medium

True to period, people & place. Brilliantly done, a visual feast, very captivating & real in performance & visual detail. Refreshing realism in language barrier. Ward has used the medium to the utmost of ability to tell a deep & passionate story, without waste, pretension or fluff. Love it and know that I will be recalling the images for many years to come. I don't think I could have even begun to imagine that a french provincial, Great War movie could have been depicted in such a true fashion so simply & with as much detail. The actors whom I've not come across before, other than Zamiro, were outstanding, the cinematography captured facial expressions & personality beautifully. Loved the way words were almost irrelevant except as a tone of voice. Will be enjoyed & contemplated in many a conversation post viewing.

Enlightening

This film left me with the reminder of how little Australians know about the largeness of the characters in our countries history. Loved the simple outline of Assange's formative years, which I had little knowledge of. Was very enjoyable seeing IT in the time frame in which his international involvement started. The reality of period IT equipment, home pieces, telephone exchange, cheap city student housing, police structure was entertaining as well as a reminder of we're this fitted in my background. Was also enjoyable fitting Assange history into the news events of the day that I recalled, The Family. The 'one liner' written across screen at end, about custody battle, single parent child raising, leaves me hanging for the rest of the Bio. Very enjoyable documentary, would recommend to all, for both entertainment in terms of Australian 'period' piece & understanding were Assange comes from.

Wonderful coming of age story
15 September 2013
Thoroughly enjoyable movie. Presented an indigenous view of were traditional culture meets white in outback towns. All the good & bad elements of the breakdown in traditional structures are presented in a simplistic rendition of the strength of culture through the wrapping within the protective framework of Elder knowledge. The simplistic & warmhearted presentation of coming of age & recognition of where value & importance actually lies, was lovingly if somewhat unrealistically presented during the bush parts. Consequence & direness regardless of bush knowledge were very poorly presented in the traveling through the bush section of movie. Very much let the rest of the movie down. Loved the way the negative aspects of cultural breakdown were presented so ordinarily, sledgehammer approach was not used for a change, and made them so much more significant in there everyday ordinariness.

Unique visual story

Wonderful documentary style story. Scenes still have great impact on me. The casual acting styles of the children were captivating & led to credence all the way through the film. Confronting issues & imagery were simply presented without sentimental or 'fluffy' enhancement. The stories of each character were presented so realistically by apparently unsophisticated actors, with the cinematography displaying facial & scenic imagery so beautifully & again simply, so as to encourage the feel of realism & the documentary style. Would expect more awards to be coming this films way. Started out as a 'bookclub' task & left me with a lifelong impact.
