Star Trek: Resurgence (2023 Video Game)

It's Telltale without the polish
16 February 2024
When I bought this , I had no idea that it was a big portion of the ex Telltale team but it didn't take me long to see their finger prints all over this game.

It's an engaging well written story like all of Telltale games and it's certainly a good game but it sadly lacks the polish of Telltales work and has some slight issues that can cause major irritation that would of been solved with a bit more play testings.

Let's start with the bad bits.

1. This game has some serious lighting issues that make finding things quite challenging , I don't know if this is because I'm playing this on an Xbox one instead of my Xbox S but sometimes you can die in the game because you standing in the wrong spot and the light doesn't seem to go activated , who knows but it's a major irritations.

2. There can sometimes be a stuttering delay with dialogue it only lasts for about 2 seconds but it's frustrating.

3 Occasionally clue don't appear in your recorder , close it and the clues are back.

4. The graphics can sometimes seem quite low resolution in parts.

The Good Bits 1. The voice acting is as polished as you would expect.

2. The script feels very Star Trek.

3. You can still buy this game on disc, something that is becoming more challenging as time goes by.

4. It's feels very much a Star Trek game , use the phaser, fly a runabout ( even though it's on rails) and use a tricorder.

5. The characters really do feel like they were designed for Star Trek , it feels the right side of cheesy to be great entertainment.

Summary It's a good game that so easily could of been a great game with just a bit more polish , the only thing I wonder is, are the graphics better on a later console and does the sound stutter.

To put simply , it's a 7 but with just a modicum of play testing would of easily been an 8.

It's a film about Ghosts and Planes
3 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Do you like Ghosts and planes, well you may or may not be in luck as this film has both, it's just a very ok experience, not awful just ok.

Think of it as one of those films that is worth watching, but only if you don't have something better to watch.

It's not a bad film, it's just a very mediocre film, decidedly average.

So here it goes , the review.

John Travolta plays a ghost Mosquito pilot from Canada with an American accent and a beard that you weren't allowed to have in the RAF until 2019 (maybe ghosts have started to grow beards) and he leads pilots home to a closed RAF base in low cloud cover and that's the film, you don't need to watch it, as that's the film minus 1 hour 30 minutes ( I've given you another 90 minutes to your life, say thanks).

It you like planes there is a Mosquito and Vampire in this films from the days when we made incredible planes, so that was nice at least.

It sad because it comes from a book written by the heavy weight of Fredrick Forsyth, so you would of expected something a bit special but sadly it was a missed moment.

It's not bad, it's just very very average but I did appreciate the planes.

Watch if you have nothing special to watch on Disney+

It's a mixed bag
3 April 2023
It's one of those games that you coming away after completing feeling fairly satisfied.

Let's start with the positives , it does have an interesting almost claymation look about it which makes it an attractive game in parts and the idea is certainly interesting and it doesn't fail dramatically, it just feels like it hasn't been play tested enough.

It has some irritating game issues, you sometimes find your character wondering or not activating with level travelling, you need to leave the area and you character just does an about turn, it just doesn't always react as it should.

The characters are just very hammy and slight dull and stereotypical , I'm not sure if this is deliberate but the main protagonist's is no Guy Brush, although I think this may of been one of its inspirations.

Some of the puzzles are irritatingly obtuse and some of the places you end up in are just a bit silly.

Overall it's just a pretty but very average game, it's not awful but it's just ok.

I don't regret playing it but if someone had just told me the script I would of thought I would give it a miss.

It's just so average and I wouldn't rush to play a sequel, that said if you ever wondered what an average game with elements of Monkey Island, Xfiles and the Twilight zone would look like, well a bit like this but probably better as it has elements of all of these but doesn't do any of them well, just ok.

Overall it's an ok game but if your looking for a pretty game with sci fi elements maybe try beyond a steel sky, also not perfect but a much more interesting experience.

So ends the BBC Comedy Drought
26 December 2022
The BBC was once known for it's comedy but since 2000 it has created nothing short of comedic drivel, there has been a few exceptions such as The Cleaner, Detectorists, Zapped, Rev and Two Pints of Lager ( except the last two awful series) but as a whole it's been a bad few years, if you want comedy you go to Channel 4.

Then this came along and showed that the BBC can still do great comedy but then with talent like Matthew Baynton, Jim Howick and Bill Willbond, it was always going to be amazing and it certainly is an example of great comedy.

The plot is basically two people inherit a dilapidated manor house with ghosts from all ages.

It's a great concept and it works , I don't want to give too much away so if you want to see a comedy that is funny, has ghosts and great performances , then this is it.

Its like the British Version but different
26 December 2022
The British version was a surprise return to great comedy from the BBC since a major drought of good comedy from the 2000 onwards, and this is the US version of the UK comedy Ghosts.

When the US adapts great British comedy ( and I am thinking of the US Red Dwarf here) it changes the format to such an extent that it is the same in name only, so is this more US comedy butchering.

Well no , they have changed the characters which wouldn't of worked in the US , a disgraced Tory MP is now a disgraced stock broker, a sexual repressed first world officer is now a sexual represented officer in the revolutionary war but the core characters that crossover retain their personalities.

I was expecting to hate this in the same way I hated Red Dwarf US but it retains all the things that make the British program amazing comedy and as much as I hate to admit it, Rose McIver (iZombie) is better as the main protagonist than Charlotte Richie ( who is great but Rose's comedic optimism just seems more chirpy and real).

It's not all improvement as Trevor is nowhere near as great a role as Julian Fawcett MP ( the disgraced Tory MP) but this doesn't detract from how good this adaption is.

If I had to say one was better than the other, I would find this almost impossible as they are both brilliant, the UK version is just slightly better for Simon Farnaby's performance of Julian.

Overall well done for keeping a great formula and making it perfect for the US while retaining it's comedy and charm.

Disco Elysium (2019 Video Game)
10/10
I tried and failed to put this into a neat box
22 September 2022
Let's start by saying when writing a review , it's easier to start with what it's like but this game defies categorisation, I guess something had to be first , when doom came along there was nothing to compare it to and now everything is doom like, this is going to create the expression Disco Elysium like.

Your a cop investigating a murder but your an addict and your brain doesn't like you, if that seems odd , well I guess it is but it works.

It's clever and full of choices , drugs and alcohol make your brain work more efficiently but it takes it out of your body , so it's a choice based game , sobriety or brilliant but burn out fast addict , the choice is yours , it's not grim , it's done brilliantly.

The best way of describing this game is to think of its as a thought exercise mixed with point and click for the 21st century.

Unique , clever and brilliant in one amazing package, everyone needs to get play this at least once.

I am hugely excited about Disco Elysium 2 , it's set up for a sequel and it will be glorious.

under appreciated classic
14 September 2005
This is not an official Python film but does contain most of the Python crew and an awful lot of wonderfully talented actors. This film is brilliantly filmed and contains some classic comedy moment and should not of been the failure it was. This film has the best cinematology of any of the Python films whether official or unofficial. This film does occasionally touch on a number of offensively subjects but this is handled in a expertly way by Chapman and others. This film is impossible to find and even when you can find it you have to make do with a poor quality VHS copy and it has never been released on DVD , WHY NOT ?
