Parks and Recreation: Flu Season (2011)
Season 3, Episode 2
10/10
One of the best single episodes of comedy on TV.
4 May 2024
This is by far the best episode of Parks and Recreation. In my book this is one of the best single episodes of a sitcom ever. It's up there.

There are constant punchlines one after the other. And they come out of nowhere. "Network connectivity problems." "Stop pooping." "We still never talk to each other sometimes." "Ew gross, your foreheads sweaty." These are still some of the lines I quote all the time. I recently rewatched this episode and forgot how many of my favorite lines and scenes of Parks and Recreation came from this episode.

It's funny because Amy Pohler directed this episode but her lines were some of the least funny. Not that they weren't fun y she just gave the best moments to her costars.

Big Lizard and Monkey team up to smash other Lizard and Monkey.
4 May 2024
I feel like the studio is listening to the fans. There were far less human driven plotlines. The humans were mostly there just to add the explanation for what was happening. Dan Stevens proves he can crush any role he's given. He had the best performance staring as hot Ace Ventura.

My biggest complaint is while Godzilla got top billing this was mostly a Kong movie. I guess Universal is leaning into the part of the franchise they own. The other Godzilla Kaiju that makes an appearance was also minimal - and unnecessary. Godzilla could have taken on every one else - even Kong with his upgrades.

But if you go in knowing what you expect and don't expect more, it's a good time.

80s theme, bad music
6 February 2024
The play is exactly what you would expect from an 80s themed production of this play, The Comedy of Errors, with very accurate costumes and setting. This is one of Shakespeare's earliest plays and the writing and pretense is very much of his early writings. The physical comedy is good, and well done by the actors. But the Acapella style music/singing is painful, seriously bad. Kind of brings down the play.

This production was done during the pandemic and so this is staged outside and has a few gags that are appropriate for the pandemic, like disinfectant. But seriously, the music was painfully distracting.

Absolutely bloody brilliant.

Not your normal Hollywood series. I can see why this didn't get picked up for a second season and as much as part of me wants a second season, part of me knows it would be almost impossible to improve on the first season.

It's only ten episodes so resist the urge to finish it in one binge. Pace yourself and enjoy every wonderful minute.

Star Wars Metroidvania

The game borrows heavily from the mechanics of other great games, Uncharted, Dark Souls, and the metroidvania genre. But it works. If you're expecting a groundbreaking completely original game, this isn't that. If you want a beautiful game that's basically a 3D metroidvania then you'll love this game. I did.

We loved Horrible Histories and Yonderland but this may be their best work yet. Just wonderful. Better with every viewing.

Devilishly angelic.

It's basically a perfect adaptation of the book, which itself was practically perfect. I'm sure David Tennet will get all the glory for his demonic performance, but Michael Sheen gives the most adorable and possibly best performance of his life. The whole thing is wonderful.

I can't say enough about this show. It's my new favorite. And I completely loved the ending. Can't wait for season 2.

The Tick (2016–2019)

A worthy remake of a cult classic
20 August 2016
I've watched this episode 3 times now. I really like it. I liked the comics and the animated series, but I didn't love the last live action version. This is by far, the best character development of any iteration of The Tick. Arthur's back store is excellent, and Griffin Newman plays it brilliantly. Peter Serafinowicz's acting as The Tick is a little rough, but he's a good actor and I have no doubt he'll pull it off. Plus with Patrick Warburton as a producer (as opposed to playing The Tick like he did the last time) I'm sure he'll coach Peter along.

To me, this is more representative of the comics, which could be darker than the animated series. Arthur's back story is definitely darker and it seems that Arthur's story line is going to carry the series forward while The Tick may be "the sidekick" to the story. I really hope Amazon picks this up, I can't wait to see where Ben Edlund takes it from here.

Angel (1999–2004)

If you love Buffy and Grimm, you'll love this too.
30 January 2016
My wife and I had just finished binge watching our latest show and were looking for something different. We're huge Joss Whedon fans and watched Buffy from the first airing until the last, but never really got into Angel. It was on a different night of the week and just never picked it up. But we've been fans of Grimm since it aired and the creator of Grimm, David Greenwalt, was co-creator of Angel with Joss. So we decided to give it a try. Darker than Buffy, and not as much humor, but still plenty of great lines and funny moments. The first season is a little rough. This is 12 years old now, and it shows a little, and they obviously were still working on smaller budgets. It's still great nostalgic fun, and you get to see lots of actors who went on to do other things make guest appearances.
