Jim Jefferies: Alcoholocaust (2010)
I was enjoying it for the first forty minutes.
I was enjoying this for the first forty minutes - I have generally enjoyed the small clips of Jim Jeffries that I've seen - he can be quite edgy at times, but often also makes valid points behind the comedy. And at the start, Alcoholocaust was very entertaining. But then about half way through, it came to the point where he touched upon the Holocaust and Auschwitz. When he came to the lines about the Auschwitz tourist board and "ideas to boost tourism", it took two jokes before I turned off the DVD player and walked out.
For me, his lines of "tourism suggestions", "Yes, we do have the tallest tower of second hand shoes" and "We have ovens big enough to cook 400 pizzas at once" just take things way too far, and I was deeply disappointed and offended.
So as Steve Hughes says regarding political correctness and being offended: "So what? Be offended. Nothing happens!", this is true. Does this mean that I would watch Jim Jeffries again? Sadly not. Such a shame that he would go over the top with such disregard and ignorance of what still makes many of us shudder today.
