Ted (2024)

Seth MacFarlane does it again!!!
17 January 2024
In a word, "Ted" is brilliant!

The fast and funny wit supplied to us by MacFarlane and his staff of writers is on full display here.

If you were a fan of the "Ted" films, you will absolutely FLIP OUT over this series.

There are simply too many laugh out loud moments to list here in this review. Seth MacFarlane is a genius!

The cast is absolutely perfect!!

All play their roles to the hilt!!!

Scott Grimes and. Alanna Ubach.play Matty and. Susan Bennett, parents to Johnny and Ted, and seriously, they are hilarious in their roles!

Giorgie Whigham is. Blaire Bennett, Johnnys wisecracking cousin, and she is an absolute HOOT!!

Max Burkholder plays the part of Johnny,Bennett, the sixteen year old version of Mark Wahlberg's character in the two "Ted" films.

This young man is absolutely incredible, the way he bounces off Seth MacFarlane's Ted. These guys are absolutely HILARIOUS together.

Max Burkholder will be a big star I reckon.

Look, if you didn't enjoy the "Ted" films (it's absolutely BAFFLING to me that anyone could not have a good laugh and time with these films!!) then there is NO WAY IN HELL you're gonna like this television masterpiece.

If you're someone who saw "Ted", but didn't have a laugh watching it, I'm sorry dude, but you're dead inside!!

"Ted" is a goldmine of hilarity, and to Seth MacFarlane, you have done it again!!!

Thanks to all those involved with bringing this series to air.

I really appreciate a good laugh, and "Ted" delivers on all comedic fronts.... And then some!!

Nope (2022)

NOPE INDEED!!!
20 November 2022
Oh my GOD!

What did I just see?

This film would have to be the biggest load of GARBAGE I have ever seen!

Forget "The Room", "Jaws The Revenge", "Manos;- The Hands of Fate" or anything Ed Wood made.... Jordan Peele's "Nope" is THE WORST FILM I HAVE EVER HAD TO ENDURE!

I'd have walked out on this film even if I were in a plane.

The plot (if any) makes absolutely NO sense and it's all over the shop!

Keke Palmer, playing 'Emerald' would have to be the LOUDEST and most incredibly OBNOXIOUS character in any film I've seen, and I've been a cinema goer ever since 1975, with JAWS being the first film I saw on the big screen.

It's so sad to see the decline of Hollywood, thanks to a cancer called "Wokeness".

Films today are simply PATHETIC, and this pile of crap in embarrassing.

As I watched Keke Palmer ridiculously over-act and getting under everybody's skin, I thought to myself "The only thing that could make this woman more annoying (if that was even POSSIBLE!) is if she takes out a vape pen!" Almost as soon as I thought it, out comes the bloody vape pen.

Oh ny GOD that woman did my head in!

It seemed as though she was like "look at me! Look at me! Look at what I'm doing!" Hers was a DREADFUL performance in what I can only describe as a DREADFUL film!

In future, if anyone asks me whether or not they should lay out their hard earned money on seeing this pile of claptrap, my answer will be a firm and solid... "NOPE!!!!!" Utter GARBAGE!

The Tripods are spectacular, but......
28 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was so looking forward to this series when I saw the first trailer. The sight of Rafe Spall watching as a tripod rises over and above him. That was awesome!

Sadly,, that's where my praise ends.

Some things I just didn't understand, but the biggest mystery to me was where in the HELL did the Tripods come from. It all begins with this strange sphere arriving on Earth. It was the size of the Boulder that chased Indy in "Raiders of.the Lost Ark", and served absolutely NO PURPOSE!!

In the original and BEST version of this story, the 1953 Paramount film produced by George Pal, the Martian antagonists arrive in meteoric cylinders large enough to transport three War Machines, but where and how these tripods came to be here is anybody's guess.

Why do these idiot writers have to make the plot of this series so damn convoluted?!

If you watch this., expecting massive Tripod machines stomping cities to the ground and turning folks into dust with their heat rays, you're going to be SORRLY DISAPPOINTED!!

As I said... the Tripod was a fantastic design, but they appear in this series, all up, perhaps five minutes at the very best.

If you wanted viewers, why on Earth would you keep these frightening machine OFF-screen?

THAT is what we wanted!!!

It's called "The WAR of the Worlds", but there is very little "war"to be had!

I really wanted to like this, but I simply couldn't.

Please try harder next time and give us ACTION, and NOT a soppy love story!

Cheers.

After Life (2019–2022)

If You're Not Moved By "After Life", You Are NOT Human!!
3 May 2020
Having just binge-watched this show with my beautiful wife, I felt I simply HAD to tell the IMDB world about what I just experienced. In my humble opinion, Ricky Gervais is nothing less than a pure GENIUS! This show has to be experienced to be believed! I was going to tell you all about the plotline and the incredible array of characters who inhabit this amazing situation, but I thought it might be better for all concerned if you all just go ahead and experience this show and decide for yourself! I'm telling you all now that if you aren't moved by this emotionally, then you aren't a human being in my opinion! Some words I'd use to describe "After Life" would be like;- Moving. Beautiful. Heartwarming. Tragic. Passionate. Hilarious. Utterly BRILLIANT!!!!

So, to sum it up, it was, to me, the absolute BEST series I have ever had the pleasure to experience!!! In my wildest dreams, I NEVER thought "The Sopranos" could, or would EVER be bettered in the areas of quality programming, but "After Life" not only matches "The Sopranos" in the qualities of writing, acting and direction, it actually does it all BETTER! Ricky Gervais, you are a GENIUS!! I also just want to give a shout out to the beautiful, gorgeous and talented Roison Conaty, who played the role of 'Daphne/Roxy' to absolute PERFECTION!!! Thank you Ricky Gervais and Company for your gift to us called "After Life". SHEER BRILLIANCE!!!!!

The End of an Era!!!
19 December 2019
On the very day I turned nine years old, May 25, 1977, a film was unleashed on a very unsuspecting public when STAR WARS it our screens. Nothing like it had ever been seen before, and children today simply don't understand how big of a deal this film was! Almost every film released today are huge, bloated spectacles, overstuffed with CGI effects and loud explosions, but when "Star Wars" was released, it was most definitely a one-of-a-kind. It not only changed the face of the industry, it changed how films were made. I grew up with the Star Wars Saga as a part of who I was. I associate many happy childhood memories to that Galaxy far, far away. Like with most fans, I wasn't particularly impressed with the prequel trilogy, but when "The Force Awakens" came out in December 2015, I was very impressed. This film was accused by many as just a rehash of 'An New Hope' (when I was a kid, there was none of this 'Episode 4, A New Hope'. It was simply STAR WARS!) but I thought it was fantastic. 'The Last Jedi' wasn't everybody's cup of tea, but I enjoyed the film. "The Rise of Skywalker" is now upon us, and it's the final chapter in the Star Wars Saga, and I must say that I was very,, very impressed with the way things have tied up. During the screening, I was laughing, and enjoying the thrill ride that was the classic Millennium Falcon. There were many nods to the original trilogy which were delightful, and our heroes Poe, Rey and Finn all work very well together. I'm not going to mention any plot points or spoilers, but what I will say is that this well worth the wait from this old fan of the series! What was very clever was the story arc concerning Leia, considering Carrie Fishers untimely death in 2016. All our old heroes are back for the final curtain call, but this film was tinged with sadness because of the loss of Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker. The Force was DEFINITELY with "The Rise of Skywalker" in my opinion. I was nine when the saga began, and now, at the age of 51, I got to see the story come to an end. May the Force be with you!!!

Passengers (I) (2016)

Not understanding the HATE for this film.
27 August 2019
I have seen some films that can divide opinions, and for the most part, I understand, but the level of hatred aimed at "Passengers" leaves me scratching my head. I thought the story was solid and the performances of Lawrence, Pratt and particularly Sheen were phenomenal. It was a nightmare scenario faced by Chris Pratt's character, and the decision to prematurely awaken someone to keep him company for the rest of his life on this massive ship, the AVALON was a decision almost impossible to make. I found this film to be thoroughly enjoyable and have watched it many times. My advice is to ignore the critics and haters and watch this film for yourself before you decide. I almost denied myself the pleasure of this film because I was nearly dumb enough to listen to the haters. I decided to watch it anyway, regardless, and I am now so thankful I did. I absolutely LOVED "Passengers", and I don't give a heck what the haters and beysayers think!

Finding Bigfoot (2011– )
9/10
Love it!!!
18 April 2019
This is the the type of show that, if taken seriously by the viewer, then that viewer will be disappointed, but taken at face value, a lot of fun can be had. The team, consisting of Matt Moneymaker, Cliff Barackman, James "BoBo" Fay and resident skeptic Ranae Holland, go around searching out witnesses to hear stories of Bigfoot encounters, then spend their nights in the wild, seeking out the elusive Sasquatch. One thing that bothers me though is that the team are, for some reason, convinced Sasquatches are carnivores, following the deer around. Wouldn't evidence suggest that these creatures would more likely be vegetarians?! Gorillas and other primates eat only vegetable matter, so it would stand to reason that these animals, if they are real, would follow suit. Being from Australia, I was brought up with tales of our own resident Bigfoot, known here as the Yowie. This creature is known by the indigenous people as the Quinkin, and features in many 'Dream-time' stories. Maybe one day, the "Finding Bigfoot" team may find the definitive proof these animals exist and they're then properly categorised by science. Personally speaking, I hope that NEVER happens, because if it does, it will rob us of the mystery and intrigue of these enigmatic creatures. Until that day comes, try to take this show for what it is, and you'll find immense pleasure in the experience. "Finding Bigfoot" is unlikely, but fun all the same!!

Batman: The Great Train Robbery (1968)
Season 3, Episode 22
10/10
Barry Dennen Steals the Show.
12 February 2019
In my opinion, this episode of "Batman" is the very best of season three. As entertaining as Cliff Robertson is, playing the villainous cowboy 'Shame', it is his henchman 'Fred' who steals the show! Looking every bit like Pancho Villa, with the sombrero and long, thick moustache, when Fred speaks, his voice sounds just like an upper class British gentleman. 'Fred' is played with glee by the late, Chicago-born great Barry Dennen. This episode was aired in early 1968, only a couple of years before he found lasting fame as 'Pontius Pilate' in the original Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's "Jesus Christ Superstar", a role he would go on to play in the feature film of the production in 1973. Sadly, Barry Dennen passed away in September of 2017. My wife and I had the honour of spending a wonderful afternoon with him in 2009 when we visited the United States. I got to know him through his webpage, exchanging emails with him until we were able to visit him in person. Barry Dennen's performance in this episode is hilarious, and it makes for a wonderful experience. Rest In Peace my friend!

GREATEST SCI-FI MOVIE EVER PUT TO FILM!!
28 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
George Pal's 1953 film version of the Herbert George Wells seminal 1898 novel about an invading vanguard of Martians, "The War of the Worlds" is, in my opinion, not only the greatest sci-fi film of the 1950's, but the GREATEST sci-fi film of all time! The action of HG Wells story is moved from England to Southern California. The hero of the story, 'Dr Clayton Forrester' is played ably by the handsome Gene Barry in his first starring role. His leading lady, 'Sylvia van Buren' is beautifully played by the lovely Ann Robinson. George Pal didn't cast big names in the film, because he wanted the Martians to be the TRUE stars of the show. The eerie way the Martians are first introduced, unscrewing their ominous cylinder, the cobra-like heat ray eminator slowly rises and looks around, STILL evokes chills! Three deputies, posted to watch over the cylinder, try to communicate with the visitors, only to be turned to dust by the murderous monsters. The Martian War Machines are an incredible design! Made of copper, the hills were based on the Manta Ray, and heat ray eminator modelled, as I said before, on the cobra. As our heroes flee, the War Machines trample and destroy everything in their path. The Martians themselves are seen twice in the film. Once when Forrester and Sylvia are trapped in a decimated farmhouse. The Martian lays it's creepy three fingered hand over Sylvia's shoulder, only to be chased out by Forrester wielding an axe. The second time the Martian is seen is at the end when the Machines are brought down. Gordon Jennings and his crew won the 1954 Academy Award for Doecial Effects, but sadly, Jennings, by this time, had already passed away. The fate of the three model War Machines is quite sad as well. They were sold to a Boy Scout Copper Drive and melted down after Paramount had finished with them, so they no longer exist. The supporting cast is also wonderful, all filling their roles beautifully. The film score was done by Leith Stevens, and truly works in wonderfully with the action onscreen! The film was directed by frequent Pal collaborator Byron Haskin. Using three strip technicolor, the colour saturation is astounding and holds up very well today, all these years later. "The War of the Worlds" is the absolute BEST film of its type, and today, it has truly earned its cult status. I will never tire of this wonderful film, and if you haven't yet seen it, what are you waiting for?!! You are in for a treat! I first saw this film when I was seven, and the gorgeous Ms Ann Robinson was my first crush! I am now fifty, and I'm proud to announce that the lovely Ms Ann Robinson is now a good friend of mine! I will ALWAYS be in love with this magnificent film! In my opinion, "Gone With the Wind" and "Citizen Kane" don't have ANYTHING on "The War of the Worlds"!

Introducing Bernadette Killed it for me!
27 August 2018
When TBBT first debuted, it had tremendous promise. The dynamics between the cast was electrifying, and hilarity constantly ensued. Simon Helberg as 'Wolowitz' was such a pure joy to watch! So much attention seems to be drawn to Jim Parsons 'Sheldon Cooper', and while he is talented, I think Simon Helberg is the TRUE star of this show! The guy is just fantastic! He is hilarious, and incredibly talented in music and slapstick. I think he is the TRUE star of the show. But when they introduced the character of 'Bernadette', for me, everything went downhill. Why, oh WHY is Bernadette such a nasty and vicious little monster?! I don't know if it's written this way because the writers think it's funny, but I only see 'Berny' as a contemptible, conniving and snippy little bully! Every chance she gets, she is belittling Howard, turning him into a poor henpecked sap. I'm sure Melissa Rauch is a lovely lady, but this character of Bernadette has really ruined TBBT for me. In fact, I don't even bother to watch anymore. The thought of Penny marrying Leonard was such a dumb idea as well. They have absolutely NOTHING in common. It was much funnier when Leonard was chasing Penny. My final thought is that when Bernadette was introduced, that was this shows "jumping the shark" moment. Please put TBBT to a quick and merciful end before it turns into a parody of itself!

The Blob (1958)
9/10
It Creeps, It Crawls, It Eats You ALIVE!!
27 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Starring a young relatively unknown actor named 'Steven McQueen', originally titled "The Molten Meteor", this film tells the story about an omnivorous organism that hitches a ride to earth in a meteor. discovered by an old man (played by the wonderful Olin Howlin) it soon attaches itself to his hand and begins absorbing his flesh. He runs out onto a road, and is narrowly missed by Steve McQueen driving an old blue Plymouth. The Blob eats the old man completely and then begins eating the local inhabitants. Steve and his girlfriend Jane (Anita Corseaut) with the help of his teenage pals, spend their time trying to warn the townsfolk and convincing the police that it's not a prank. The Blob itself is a giant mass of red jelly, and it grows larger and larger with every person it consumes. This film is fairly formulaic when it comes to all the sci-fi thrillers, and it is perhaps best known as the first film Steve McQueen starred in. As a kid, this movie frightened the hell out of me, but viewing it as an adult, it is nothing short of hilarious! I've often liken it to a movie musical, but without the cast breaking into a song and dance routine. I have to say, that as an adult, this film lists as one of my top five in my list of my favourite films. I watch this film so often that I'm now onto my third DVD of it, as I just wear it out. My dream is to attend "Blobfest" and actually view this movie with an audience in The Colonial theatre in Phoenixville, PA, where it was actually filmed Living in Australia, I doubt that will ever happen. "The Blob" also has the catchiest theme music of any other 1950's film! The theme was actually penned by a young musician/songwriter named Burt Bacharach. Bottom line... this movie is pure and simple fun!! This is what movies are supposed to be....ENTERTAINMENT!! An interesting fact is that at the time of McQueens early death in November of 1980, he had one poster hanging in his bedroom. It was the movie poster of "The Blob". He was quietly proud of this cult classic.

The Meg (2018)

Perfect Popcorn Entertainment!
27 August 2018
Having just recently seen "The Meg", I can honestly say that it was a thoroughly enjoyable romp. I've read reviews where they just tear this thing apart, saying how unscientific and inaccurate this film is. This is a film where you leave your baggage at the door on your way in. Don't take it seriously and just enjoy the ride. The special effects are actually very good, and it builds tension. There's also a few jump scares that had me jumping from my seat. I actually like to think that perhaps the Megolodon still swims the deepest parts of our ocean. This movie brings it to the surface in a fabulous way! I call it 'popcorn rntertainment' because that's exactly what it is. Accept it for what it is, and I guarantee you'll have as much fun as I did. I'll be heading back to see it again. The Megolodon lives!!! Cheers. Craig
