Anne Hathaway tries to create a character to respect, but ends with a bland and exaggerated performance of Anjelica Huston's great performance. Octavia Spencer transforms her character from a kind and caring grandmother into a bitter black magic guru, something that ironically makes her a witch as well. The mice were caramelized with CGI makes us comfortable with the idea that they will never be children again, which is wrong. Stanley Tucci destroyed the role of the butler and took away his comical love affair with one of the employees. They squashed a good story with some 21st century CGI and flanderized the characters, making this one of the worst remakes in movie history.
