Thanksgiving (I) (2023)

Eli Roth's best effort!!
27 November 2023
Favorite of his films by far. The movie was fun, well acted, suspensful, gory, and even got me with a few jump scares. A few problems exist that don't make sense...Timeline issues and whatnot... But it doesn't take away the fun factor. Overall solid effort and my new go-to movie at Thanksgiving. The characters (kids) in the movie were not as bad as some online reviewers made them out to be. I thought they were fine. And they throw plenty of red herrings out there on many characters to try and keep you guessing. I know as soon as the opening sequence played out on Black Friday and the chaos that ensued... We were in for a fun ride.

Best television in decades!!!
17 January 2023
I'm an avid gamer and fan of the game. It's the only game I've played through start to finish 4 separate times. We had a watch party at our house, much like we did for Game of Thrones each season...and present were several who had never experienced the game and knew little to anything. This show knocked it out of the park for both the gaming fan and those that are not. Everyone loved it. I thought it peaked on all levels and there was not a thing I would change about it...other than I wish I didn't have to wait a week between episodes. I would have watched the entire season through the night.

Fantastic show... Kudos to all who were involved in bringing this to us. Thank you.

Nothing but a good time!!!
18 June 2022
This movie is yet another on the long list of movies that critics hated and bashed... Most undeserved. I love everything about this movie. Gore Verbinski is an amazing director, and The Lone Ranger is no exception. The performances are great, the set pieces are great, the special effects are great, action, story, compassion, humor... And the big finale when the theme music kicks in... 2.5 hours of fun. Grab the popcorn, forget the dumb critics, and have a good time.

Why can't people end a show properly?!
2 May 2022
This is one of our favorite shows hands down. Well, they blew the finale. So much didn't make sense, so much was left unanswered. And the ending?!?! Lazy garbage. The audience was invested in this show and it's characters. The individual who thought that kind of ending was satisfactory should be fired. They rank right up there with the writers who came up with the Game of Thrones ending. I won't spoil it, but it will leave you wanting more.

Interesting premise... Poorly executed

Terrible movie. Not even going to waste many words and times on this review. So much doesn't make sense, poor acting, people do not act in a realistic manner... And dumb twist. Save yourself time and sanity.

Absolute Masterpiece! Sets the standard!!

This was nothing short of epic. I'll keep this simple... GO WATCH IT!!! I hope the studios allow directors the freedom to express their vision in the future... Like Warner Brothers did here. Kudos Mr. Snyder... And thank you!!!

Could have been better....
24 December 2020
I'm out going to bash the movie on it being the most confusing movie in the history of movies. I think it's great when writers are imaginative, and then transfer their vision to the screen. I'm giving the the movie it's rating because of the FLAT acting of its main character... The protagonist. He shows little emotion when reciting his dialog, and it's as if he's reading from a cue card. Watch it carefully...the dialogue between characters seems very rushed... Perhaps an editing error? I just didn't buy it. I'm actually shocked that Christopher Nolan didn't use DiCaprio in the lead role. John David Washington delivered a very flat and monotone performance, at least during his conversations with others in the movie... Which is OFTEN. Elizabeth Debicki as the "trophy wife" of obviously one of the most powerful Russian Arms Dealers was a bit underwhelming... And I didn't buy it. Kenneth Branagh was brilliant as the Russian, he saved any scene he was in.

All in all, I liked the movie itself, and maybe I'll understand if better the second watch. But one thing that won't improve is the acting of a few characters, mainly Washington. He was slightly better in Black Klansman, but not by much. Perhaps that's his acting method? To me, his dialogue ruined what could have been a Nolan masterpiece. Worth a watch, just don't expect much from the conversations. Speaking of dialogue... Yes... The sound is a problem. We had to turn on subtitles, and I have a very nice surround system. It didn't help... I found myself reading the subtitles 75-80% throughout the film. When you do this, you tend to miss a lot of the visuals on the screen.

A Pleasant Surprise
25 November 2020
Not sure why there is negativity associated with this movie. I had no idea what I was getting into or what it was about (until I found out after I watched it). I thought it was very heartfelt, the performances were great (especially Glenn Close), and a true story. Very true to life. Watch it and judge for yourself. I've had to endure some stinkers in the absence of films over the past several months thanks to the epidemic, and this one rates as one of the better ones. It's what filmmaking is all about... Great acting, great directing, great story. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Fantastic Start!!!!

Absolutely LOVED THIS!!!! Can't wait for more. Top quality all the way. Better than any of the Star Wars movies that came out in theaters since Return of the Jedi.

Doesn't deserve the harsh reviews
9 July 2019
If you compare this to the Del Toro movies, well... You just can't do that. But as a re-release R-rated movie, it doesn't do a bad job. I was entertained, I laughed at some of the humor and one-liners, thought the creatures were pretty interesting for the most part. You can pick apart the CGI and complain of you want...I've seen worse and I've seen better. I like it that they used some practical makeup effects... The old school way. Still the best way in my opinion. For 2 hours of entertainment, I give it 8 stars because I had a good time. It won't win any awards, but who cares. I see films to be entertained, and that I was. And I'm a 50 year old movie buff... So I've seen some stinkers. This ain't one of them.

Unfunny
19 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I laughed just once throughout the entire episode... And it was the post-credit scene with Carl and everyone yelling at him from the house. Ok, it was more of a brief chuckle than a laugh. Seriously, this episode was the worst of them all I think. Boring and unfunny, and the part with the dogs being gassed was just distasteful. And yes, this show is BASED on being distasteful, but it always did it for a laugh. There's nothing funny about people bringing their dogs to be euthanised and not knowing that they are being gassed with car exhaust. I'm pretty sure 99% of people stay with their loved pet through the process, ESPECIALLY A SERVICE DOG AND IT'S HUMAN. No, it's this show that should be gassed and euthanised. And I'm a huge fan.

Thought last season was bad....
11 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Was hoping they would redeem themselves from a rather bland season 8. The writers are going for shock rather by insulting our intelligence (playing fetch with your children in the hood.... REALLY?!). Frank's list of sexual endeavors is laughable at best. And the Ian story as gay Jesus, now in prison, has run its course and is borderline ridiculous. We are huge fans of this show, but last season (and apparently this one) shows its coming to an end. Especially with Emmy Rossum departing after this one.
