A show with Peter Pan syndrome
2 December 2023
The major defining feature of this show is teens and their emotional turmoil. However, like Peter Pan, no matter what experiences they went through the characters just didn't mature and grow.

I think I was at a disadvantage since I started with The Originals and then found the Diaries, and then this. I liked TO. It was adult, had adult themes and issues, and watching the growth and changes in the characters was really cool (especially for that one character in particular) .

TVD was "ok" for me, although it was more teen angst, monster of the week stuff, BUT the characters grew and changed as they came through various situations and the plots took some weird but interesting directions. Characters that started as selfish and petty grew into really good people. Whiney kids grew into adults who were loving and caring. They had a natural progression as time passed and they both matured and also learned from their experiences.

I think that with Legacies that was a big part of the problem, no one grew up. Time and experience made no one wiser. (Also, how does a school have no teachers? Just a headmaster? Weird.) This is teen coming-of-age stuff, but no real growth or change, just more and more angst. And all the lying and secrets just got ridiculous. Honestly, I may just have to go back and re-watch Supernatural again...

What? Again?
6 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Spoilers... sorta...

I just don't get Liz's behavior. She nearly got a woman killed. For what? She had a feeling? The guy had a funny look? And yet again with Elizabeth betraying Red. Really? C'mon, haven't we beaten that whining horse to death already? And yes, really, I am SO sick of her screaming that so and so "owes" her something, especially her version of "the truth"! Get over it! She is "owed" nothing! You EARN privileges such as trust and loyalty. Doesn't she get that? And if the man who literally gave up not just his entire life, but his entire identity, doesn't feel it's safe for her to know every damn thing, well maybe she should try trusting him! But no, here we go again! She'd rather trust the scheming murdering witch who shot her own father, dropped a dead body in front of her own granddaughter, and tortured her best friend, for some unknown reason. She's her long-lost mommy? Oh please!

I loved the Idea of it
20 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I really did. I mean, who wouldn't? Take all the classic fantasy and fairy tales, plonk them in the real world under mysterious circumstances, and throw in "modern" people who are central to the story, but totally skeptical! Neat, right? But oh man! It just turned into a mess! A complete morass of side-plots that went nowhere, Disney princess focused denouement moments of absurdity, and eventually just turned into a glorified soap opera. Does the guy get the girl? Or whatever.... I actually think turing the classic Evil Queen into a drama-queen psycho traumatized by her mommy was probably the worst thing they did. Fairy tales have clear moralistic messages for a reason, not psychobabble. And season 7 was a joke. It was a great idea. It really was. Go watch Grimm.

Loved it!

Really enjoyed what started off as a sad, discouraging episode! Loved the way it developed, loved the bits with the letters. And really loved that last little scene!

Not Spener For Hire ...
16 March 2020
Ok, this is Mark Wahlberg running around Boston with an attitude. At one point his (ex?) girlfriend sums everything up nicely in a bit of an hysterical rant accusing him of playing Batman, and that kind of fits! He runs around town getting into fights, acquires a sidekick, has a hilarious old guy "mentor" in Alan Arkin, and is trying to play boy scout with his fists. It has it's amusing moments, good music. But definitely not old-time Spenser - so, if you're looking for your nostalgia fix, look elsewhere. I don't think they even tried to "update" or adapt the story, it's just a completely different concept. As long as you forget Avery Brooks and Robert Urich, you'll be fine.

Excruciating in almost every way
7 March 2020
Every time I watch this I cringe. Watching Amanda Tapping acting as a buck-toothed, goggle-eyed goofy nerd isn't funny, it's painful. Daniel's dweeb routine is more bearable, but not only have we seen it before, it wasn't as extreme. So, yeah, easier to deal with. (A little) Jack as sloppy curmudgeon made perfect sense, but not much else did. I dont know, the goofiness just wasn't funny. It didn't ring true, even for "alternate" versions of these characters. Out of all the entire series, this is my least favorite episode.
