Accused (2023)
So full of holes
A knot in the stomach type of watch for sure. I happily (if happily is the right word for it) watched it all the way through. Edge of my seat at times. The thing that spoiled it, was that it was really frustrating (perhaps deliberately?) to watch.
Harri was repeatedly calling 999 right up to the point when he actually needed to ring it. The police would be there in minutes (I know it was a secluded house, but not in outer Mongolia). Then his neighbour says we'll have a nice cuppa tea then drive to the police station, rather than call 999? And obviously Harri agrees to this bizarre plan. Then his attacker wanders away from Harri allowing him to run away and climb to the safety of the tree house, so he can get a slightly more suitable weapon? You need a great deal of suspension of disbelief for this one folks.
God Is a Bullet (2023)
Could have been so much better
As some people have said, it starts promisingly. But doesn't really deliver. It's disjointed. Doesn't flow well. But worst of all you're not really introduced to the characters virtually at all. At the beginning, a girl is kidnapped, then suddenly it's 12 years later (girl aged, bad guys haven't seemingly aged at all).
What's happened to her? What's the structure of the cult? What do the cult members want? There are lots of characters in the film, but we're not in the least bit involved with any of them.
I watched the whole film, so it couldn't have been totally terrible. But I definitely wasn't sure whether or not I'd wasted my time. Most films of this genre are 90 mins. This one should have been better or shorter.
The Invisible Man (2020)
Brilliant horror
Let's face it, brilliant horror films are few and far between. But this is one of them. Edge of your seat, pretty much all the way through. I've rated it nine out of ten purely because what are you going to give the best film ever made, if you hand out tens to one's that are just really great 😉
Queen & Slim (2019)
Great film
Really watchable enjoyable film. One of the stars gets shot in the leg right at the beginning, and it seems to be the least painful or debilitating gunshot wound ever! She runs, dances and even jumps out of an upstairs window (but it hurts her shoulder, not her leg). But all this doesn't detract from a great watch.
The Big Ugly (2020)
Not all that good
Well you'd expect a film with Malcolm McDowell and Ron Perlman in it, to be halfway decent. It was just about watchable really. Formula revenge movie. Not interesting, poor script, and it didn't always make sense. It had actors, just needed a decent script, a plot that flowed and made more sense, and some twists and surprises to give it some interest.
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)
Brilliant
Ya know, I haven't even watched the entire film yet. But I just watched the part where passengers are singing to mister Rogers on the subway, and it was just so emotive. Brilliant. Tom Hanks just never ever disappoints.
6 Underground (2019)
No substance at all
As per the other reviews, just pointless nonsense. Sparks galore, cars shooting 50ft in the air when they crash? Storyline that makes no sense really. Turned it off halfway through. Some people seem to like it. They must be a bit more skilled than me at the suspension of disbelief.
A Fall from Grace (2020)
Watchable rubbish
I kept pausing it to explain to my partner why various parts of the plot (virtually all of it) made no sense. I bet most of the people giving it one star, actually watched it all the way through though. And how often do we turn off a film 20 minutes in? Gripping garbage. I can't believe a director could direct it and not see the countless holes in it. Let alone the writer. Who are these people? Hilarious
