I was looking foreword to this because of the high rating but was disappointed
24 December 2022
I usually like these types of films that are a bit different from the usual Hollywood offerings, a nice pace, not fast-moving, I didn't like the Irish cliches used throughout the film and the plot was a bit boring and didn't make much sense to me, I like films that are abstract and leave things open to interpretation, but The Banshees of Inesherin failed on this front as well for me. The acting was first class by Brendan Gleeson, Colin Farrell not so much, I found his performance wooden and contrived. With beautiful locations and cinematography it looked amazing on a big screen, I'd watch the film for the cinematography alone but was dissatisfied with the story.

Utterly depressing and uninspired
3 December 2021
Nothing much happens in this documentary, it's as if the people making it lost interest (as I did) in the first ten minutes and it just sort of ambles along with shots of mundane people doing mundane things. I didn't much care for any of the people in the film, being mostly self obsessed and one dimensional at least this was how they were portrayed.

Knives Out (2019)

Am I watching the same film as everyone else?
26 February 2020
What an awful film, it's just boring, trying too hard to be like The Royal Tenenbaums, none of the characters are likeable, plot meanders along like an old dog.

Rich people making films about poor people
8 November 2019
I have a huge problem with Ken Loach, his films and this film in particular are jarring, it's rich people making films about poor people, He is so disconnected from the subject matter I actually find his style of film making insulting and it makes me cringe.

You can do as much research as you want about the poor and the oppressed and the lower classes but all your ever going to produce is vulgar and boring, 'The Angels' Share' manages to be both vulgar and boring in equal measures.

Gratuitous blood and gore
10 February 2017
Mel Gibson really does seem to love his blood and gore, the passion of the Christ was notorious for it's unflinching scenes of gratuitous blood and violence. I know this is a war film but do we we really need to see such graphic detail? I actually think it detracts from the narrative, this is indeed a great story and one which should be told but it is spoilt by poor direction. The characters seem so unreal it is difficult to relate to any of them or to have any emotional connection. Andrew Garfield does an OK job playing the main character WWII American army medic Desmond Doss, but I quickly lost interest due to his lacklustre performance.

The Grand Tour (2016–2024)

Embarrassingly awful
30 November 2016
As a huge fan of the Clarkson, May and Hammond top gear, I was like many of us really looking forward to The Grand Tour, I'm afraid to say I am totally disappointed with this reincarnation. One of things I most enjoyed about TG was the specials the challenges and the guests, why didn't they spend the huge budget Amazon provided them with on producing these? instead we are untreated to overly long segments of what can only be described as filler television, in episode 2 they spend about 15 minutes basically just repeating the same not very funny joke in which James May gets killed trying to reach a get away car, it was like being in groundhog day, I actually felt embarrassed watching it. Terrible television.

Starlings (2012– )
3/10
Yawn!
20 May 2012
I had high expectations for Starlings, coming from the production company baby cow started by Steve Coogan and Henry Normal, who have been responsible for some of my favourite TV shows, The mighty boosh, Gavin and Stacey and of course Alan Partridge, but Starlings is just boring. It's a bit like coronation street but with a higher budget. The characters are dull, it reminds me of sitting in my own families home but with less laughs. I know it's only on episode 1 but surely for a pilot it should grab my attention. It's painful to watch nothing much happens just boring characters saying boring things, "who wants a brew", "did you sleep well", etc. I've no idea how anyone can think this is entertaining to watch a family just going about there daily business, I'm sure as the series progresses we will see different characters emerge and I hope they are more interesting than the ones we see in the first episode.

Life's Too Short (2011–2013)

It's so funny I forgot to laugh
22 November 2011
In each episode a celebrity is roped in to say things they wouldn't usually say like aids or cancer like they did in Extras. Warwick Davis who plays the dwarf looks directly at the camera sometimes to remind us it's a documentary, like they did in The Office Stephen Merchant plays Ricky's writing partner Stephen Merchant the guy from the barclays ads and that bloke who use to be in Eastenders plays that bloke who use to be in Eastenders he pops up now and again and says something about being out of work, Sometimes Warwick Davis falls over or tries to reach something placed high up, It's offensive, puerile and worst of all just not funny.

Manhunter (1986)
9/10
A stunning film
8 February 2010
Manhunter is an amazing film, we as the audience are not treated as fools, not everything is fully explained or laid out, it contains no throw away dialogue in case we forgot what is going on, all is told through breathtaking imagery and acting, I do not have to see the gruesome details of horrific crimes in order for me to have an emotional response, like the classic shower scene from Hitchcock's Psycho a lot of what we see is implied, at first we only see a silhouette of the attacker we hardly see any blood, we don't see the knife puncture flesh, yet it is still disturbing and horrific.

William Petersen excels as the main agent working to track down this vicious serial killer nicknamed The Tooth Fairy, and Brian Cox gives a truly chilling performance.

The Fountain (2006)

A unique inspiring masterpiece.
8 May 2007
Rarely do I feel inspired to write comments on IMDb as there just seem so many others, who can say things better than I, but 'The Fountain' is truly a masterpiece.

Hugh Jackman is stunning in this film for me he totally exudes charisma and compassion which seems to flow out of the screen into your brain, I was transfixed by his performance from beginning to end.

I have been fan of Aronosky ever since I saw 'Pi' another inspiring film, he seems to merge reality & fantasy in such a way to make it believable and so intense, he really is a unique director who I hope will go on to make many more films.

Sickly sweet drama
9 April 2007
An absolutely terrible film, the characters are all so lovely & good I wanted to be sick, Alan Bennet portrays a rose tinted view of the world and although for a bit of light relief I don't mind optimistic films from time to time 'the history boys' takes this concept too far for my liking.

From the first few minutes the film is just annoying to watch, there are some fine actors but the overall optimistic & downright annoying feeling simply makes the film unwatchable.

The lack lustre & unimaginative plot seems to go nowhere very slowly the only redeeming feature I can think of is the soundtrack which contains some classic 80's tunes.

Grilled (2006)

Never really gets started
9 July 2006
The first 30 minutes of watching Grilled I was waiting for the film to start, after an hour I was still waiting. It's only redeeming feature is Juliette Lewis, who I like very much, but she does seem to get typecast by directors as the strung out wacky chick in most of the movies I have seen her in.

The director demands we suspend our disbelief for Grilled as the plot is totally unbelievable, I like suspending my disbelief for movies I don't want realism all the time, but if you need us to enter your little world then please give us something better than this terrible movie.

End Game (2006)
1/10
Truly Awful
23 May 2006
End Game started well, the least said about the end the better. it seemed like things we're happening just to keep the plot going, for example the reporter who at first is a very inquisitive, intelligent person, half way through does something really stupid and totally out of character, we are given no reason for this apart from, the next scene wouldn't make sense without it. The whole story could have been told in about 30 minutes, it would have made an average TV political drama The brilliant Cuba Gooding Jr. is very watchable however and James Woods does an admirable job considering.

The end game was honestly one of the worst films I've ever seen......and that's saying something, I've seen Gigli.
