The Keatons' longtime friend, Richard, fresh off of a divorce from his wife Cynthia, comes to visit with his son, Keith. While Keith flies kites with the Keaton children, Richard admits that Cynthia will be moving with Keith to San Diego. When Cynthia comes to pick up Keith, Richard makes a desperate attempt to keep his son in his life.
While the laughs are not as frequent as in other FAMILY TIES episodes, "To Snatch a Keith" handles the issue of divorce and the custody of a child in a respectful manner, addressing both sides of the issue and the difficulties of a broken relationship effectively in the confines of a 22-minute episode. A young David Faustino (who later grew fame as Bud Bundy on MARRIED WITH CHILDREN) guest stars as Keith.
