Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Time to respect viewers !
Star wars movies, are all more or less great. Though, I've seen them all over the course of the years, I wanted to comment on this one, in case anyone from the director universe or other (editing) listens, in case, they feel at some stage they want to take movie making onto another level. For any movie that is. I do not understand, how, not sure what date Star Wars takes place, certainly in the distant future, we still have explosions. At the beginning of the movie when they attempt to kill the princess, when the space ship gets fired at, smoke comes out. Smoke ???? In year 2500, 3000? Come on! (Maybe petrol, and petrol companies, still control our lives!!!) What about lasers, melting, disappearing, etc. We had an atomic bomb in 1945, 69 years ago, and you show Star Wars in smoke. I'm sure, you can try better, at all levels. There must be consistency in MOVIES, when in one movie, a guy with super powers goes at lightening speed, and in the next scene, you see him fight with human speed. Anyone?? At some stage, you have to respect the intellect, the desire of the viewer, and the basic rules of life and movie making.
Gimme Shelter (2013)
No excesses, spot on
Haven't read reviews of other people, but did see Slant magazine rate it 0/100, Philadelphia Inquirer 12/100 and New York Daily News 20/100, etc, etc. As Rolling Stone, 38/100, says, misguided are the critics, who, by the way, as someone famous once said, are failed writers. A touching movie which shows in a realistic way harsh reality. That's all I saw. No meanings, contra-meanings, pro-meanings, religions, perspectives, how it should, what should have been shown, and the works. Non-sense. No messages. Just watch the movie for the story, the reality behind it, and the, in some cases, brilliant acting. Slant and Philadelphia, should close down!
He Who Dares (2014)
Disgrace
Simpy put, Paul Tanter, should resign from writer, producer and director. So should the cast of, best case scenario, awful actors. So should the special effects guy, anyone involved with the editing, and anyone involved in this project should have resigned in order to avoid having this complete and utter failure, on their CV. As for SAS behaving like idiots and cowboys on the loose, is simply a disgrace to an elite fighting squad. Not the best as some people say in reviews. But one of the best. Best, will be decided, when the moment comes. Everything about this movie is so predictable, boring, degrading, the speech, the absolute non-sense, horrible acting, the degrading fighting scenes, the incoherent, unjustified, and ridiculous killing of anyone we feel like killing, the cheap masks, this movie will blow your mind away so much, that a zero rating (as it is not an option provided by IMDb) would be unfair to zero. When you are faced with a decision such as producing such a movie, do us a favour and give it to charity. You are a disgrace to the film industry, to investors, and to the viewers. As they say in the UK, totally and utterly, rubbish mate! Rubbish! As for the end, having 'the' young girl, ending up killing the ARCH- villain, instead of the SAS commander, is.......next !!!!
Intouchables (2011)
No one can touch'em
No one can touch'em, or get close to their performance.
Full marks to the actors, and the script writer. Having said that, without the real story of the gent, there wouldn't be a movie.
Ludovico Einaudi, the music behind the movie (playing in the background) is simply award winning, inspiring, and does keep the movie alive.
The movie dwells in relationships, and the viewer is stunned with what was going to prove a NO-GO, as these 2 individuals are worlds apart, an incredible relationship is formed between the 2 men.
Probably, rather, certainly, the best French movie in years, or ever. For other best French movies, simply watch Louis de Funes movies. The man was a legend and in a league of his own.
Elysium (2013)
What is movie making?
Years I've been hearing the same story. My personal, humble view. Movie making is about thrilling, enthusing, entertaining, making people dream, taking them on a beautiful, PRIMARILY, visual trip filled with dimensions unseen and unthought of. A bit like Elysium. A visual, near-masterpiece, and most movies of this kind, should end there. Elysium, Minority Report, and the likes are primarily, solely if you like, VISUAL MOVIES. Foretelling, visually the future. The story is an added benefit. So, If you have this in your mind, you enjoy the movie, and rate it highly. If not, you will be all your life, discontent with movies of the Future! You cannot shove in Elysium acting and stories like 'In the Name of the Father' and 'Shaw Shank Redemption.' These movies are acting/story. Elysium/Minority are Visuals. Full stop!
Serbuan maut (2011)
The Best Fighting-Kill-or-get-killed movie
No movie has ever managed to capture fighting in this way. I do Wing Chun Kung Fu, did boxing and karate when young, and follow closely movies of this kind. When built around a live character and a great story, the result is Fearless (Jet Li), or Yip Man (Donnie Yen). When built around charisma and flow, you think Tony Jaa. Etc, etc, etc. But the Raid, is as alive as it gets. And the fighting is dead on. Brutal, precise and non-stop. Simply, brilliant ! Reading reviews of people hating this movie, or not rating it highly, simply shows subjectivity, at all levels. One more time, for anyone wanting to sit on the edge of his seat from the 1st moment till the last, and believe every single scene, this is your movie.
