American Horror Story (2011)
Campy, awful story telling, weak characters
This show was so good seasons 1-5 and then it turned to crap. Utterly nasty, shallow and unwatchable. Cheesy dialogue, mustache twirling characters, gross and campy. Why would anyway watch this? The storytelling is atrocious and there are no stakes for the viewer. We need, as an audience, to have a backstory and understand why the scary characters are scary. You can't just show a "scary" image and not let the audience know what's to be afraid of! What are the consequences other than wasting your time with awful TV. Seriously, pulling in washed out "celebrities"? Only Gag-gag was worse than trashdashian. Each season of AHS is worse than the one before. WTH?
Invasion (2021)
T-E-D-I-O-U-S and Boring - unlikeable characters
OMG is this tedious television! Four episodes in and there is no clear protagonist, many unlikeable characters and so much virtue signaling. Is there really an alien invasion? So far just tired, sad storytelling. I give up, no more time wasted on this show.
Halloween Kills (2021)
Garbage, Money-Making Trash
This will be the end of a great franchise. Blumhouse has sunk to new lows to make money. Not scary, just awful. The acting is terrible, directing seems absent and the opening scene is just cheesy.
Foundation (2021)
Impossible to follow, Terrible, Non-linear story telling at its worst
I really dislike this show, each episode is like starting new and that is so frustrating. Incredibly difficult to follow, the time line is all over the place. Character development is minimal and the lack on continuity from episode to episode makes this utterly unwatchable and terribly tedious. One of the worst adaptations I've ever seen.
Malignant (2021)
WTH Happened?
Huge James Wan fan but I don't understand what happened with this movie. It's just so bad; the acting included. There is no tension and zero scares. The opening scene was laughable. I'm so confused why Wan would release such a terrible move.
Supernatural: Paint It Black (2015)
Brad and Eugenie Continue To Destroy SPN with Terrible Writing
Would someone kill Rowena already. She is the worst, most annoying, and completely worthless, from a plot perspective, character to ever be introduced into the show. I hate every scene that she is in and just listening to her whining is more than I can take. Crowley and Castiel are brought on as season regulars and their characters and roles have been so diminished that I don' even recognize them anymore. Crowley is now a meek mama's boy hiding out in a warehouse that is supposed to be hell but isn't scary enough to make it at a Halloween carnival. The demons are no longer scary and are utterly laughable and just dumb. Sam and Dean - who are they now? I'm so tired of the 3 years of Carver induced tearing the boys further and further apart and so changing their characters that I don't even connect with them anymore. Eugenie and Brad are the worst writers on the show and if Eugenie were not married to Robert Singer I doubt she would even be working on the show - please get rid of these two as "Paint it Black" is a perfect example that they do more to destroy the show than anything else. "Paint it Black" was the straw the broke the camel's back for me. I have been struggling with Season 10 - there have been a few good episodes but there is no structure to the season the arc seems barely present - episodes seem to ramble and are just presentations of the writers POV that don't tie together in a way that creates a season. Season 10 is completely disjointed - is the MOC important or is it a parlor trick? Did they turn Dean into a demon just for a "wow" effect and then didn't have a plan or know what to do with his character? It seems pretty obvious the writers wrote themselves into a corner and they keep getting deeper and deeper in this abyss where they have completely lost perspective on the show, canon, characters, flow, etc. Carver needs to go - I'm sorry but I am so depressed over this season I don't watch the show live anymore - I sometimes forget it was even on. I used to LIVE to watch SPN live. I watch it on DVR or HULU and after "Paint it Black" I'm not sure I even want to watch it at all anymore. Why is this happening? Is the show pushing ahead just to make money with little or no regard to the fans who have supported the show for a decade? I feel like I am losing an old friend - like the show is dying. I'm beside myself and I am powerless to do anything but express my feelings on boards like this and hope something will change. After the mid-season round-table where prominent bloggers gave feedback on the show which was less than positive to be kind I thought that might be a wake up call to Carver but apparently he didn't listen or didn't care. Carver's legacy at SPN may well be that he is the man that killed the show that no one thought would ever die.
Supernatural: Halt & Catch Fire (2015)
Can Season 10 Be Saved? Not With Episodes Like "Halt and Catch Fire"
This episode is another example of how Season 10 seems to have lost it's groove and can't seem to get it back (exceptions of outstanding episodes Fan Fiction and There's No Place Like Home which were both bright shining stars in an otherwise dark cloudy sky). The premise of a WIFI ghost wasn't scary or interesting. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since this episode came from the writing team that gave us "Mannequin 3 - A Reckoning" which I thought was the better episode and that's not entirely a compliment. I did appreciate that this episode was about Sam and Dean (hello, they are they show) and didn't have oodles of secondary semi-interesting characters with boring story lines to steal away screen time. I love ghost stories and of all the ghost stories that SPN has aired this has to be one of the worst. I also think the writers are walking a very thin line of possibly turning Dean (who saved the world from The Apocalypse) into a caricature of his former self as we don't really know who he is anymore as the dark Dean is on then off then on then off. I also find a mid-thirty's year-old man still cruising college girls a little age inappropriate (I get that this is not that much of a stretch but it could be toned down to keep Dean from looking creepy) and the 2 scenes in the cafeteria where Dean was either playing with his noodles or trying for comic effect just silly. When we did get dark Dean he was more like a bad frat boy on a binge than a Knight of Hell or even a demon as he didn't fling one person against a wall unless he was punching them in the face. Dean is a hero - he was the chosen vessel of heaven and I get that Season 10 was an opportunity for Jensen to show us more of Dean and more of his acting prowess but unfortunately the lack of good story writing kept him from giving us all I know he could deliver. This episode felt like it was written for a tween audience and as an avid fan and very long time follower and lover of the show I wish this episode had never happened. Next week's episode has the opportunity to get rid of the MoC and allow the story to move forward. If we could just get Cass his grace back (didn't he lose it in Season 8 and we are half way through Season 10), get Crowley to be Crowley and see through his boring mother's scheme and cast her away to another dimension plus banish Clair from the show that would give the remaining 8 episodes an opportunity to correct so many things that are wrong with Season 10. I understand Carver is staying for Season 11 as Frequency did not get picked up but I really want him to wrap up this current arc as it's not working and give Season 11 a new big bad and a fresh start where the show goes back to being about Sam and Dean and uses Castiel and Crowley's formidable acting skills in a much more appropriate way. Crowley and Castiel's stories have been so diminished in Season 10 I'm not sure I even care about them anymore. What if one of them were killed off - would you care? I would still care because we should have never gotten to this point. Season 10 is like a bad dream that I thought could never happen to SPN. I am hoping for a course correction and a much improved Season 11. Shows that have had 10 seasons (Smallville, for example) kept key characters from Season 1 until the series finale. SPN has killed off so many KEY secondary characters that in the process they chipped away bit-by-bit at what held the show together and created a family. Carver has improved ratings but with episodes such as the current one I just don't see how that can be sustained. I would like SPN to go to Season 12 or even 15 but that would require a massive shake up in the writers room and a new show leader who could take SPN back to being about hunting things, saving people, The Family Business
Supernatural: The Things We Left Behind (2014)
Season 10 is Terrible, so far. Hoping for a stronger second half of the season
This episode was not what I expected but I did like it, considering the low quality filler episodes we have been given in Season 10 - everything is relative, right? We are at 9 episodes now and I'm still asking myself when is Season 10 going to start. We have had so much filler (and bad filler, at that) that I was hoping for more insight into the MoC and what is ahead for Dean. The preview for upcoming episodes looks like there is so much to come that one has to wonder why does it take sooooooooooooooooo long to get there.
I don't think the MoC story has been advanced far enough to continue to dance around the issue. I hope the main arc for this season will be presented in the second half of the season at a more even pace for the viewer so we feel like we are watching one cohesive story and not 3 versions of the same show randomly thrown together just to have certain episodes play at a certain time for meeting a milestone. I'm hopeful that the second half of the season will pull it all together and pull me back in.
I'm also disappointed to see Crowley made a regular on the show and given the weakest story he has had in a long time and the version of hell that we see is such a non-scary place it is irritating. The demons are still not scary enough - where are the red eyes (cross roads demon in All Hell Breaks Loose Pt 2). Sam and Dean used to have a healthy fear of demons, now demons are for comic relief and are treated like the zombies in the Walking Dead.......oh, another zombie, yawn, stab it in the head - not scared just another day at work
Note to Carver and Crew - You've got a lot of work to do in the second half of Season 10 because so far this is my least favorite season of the entire series. Fan Fiction was fantastic but the rest feels like a jumbled mess written by a group of people that are not working on the same show.
Supernatural: Hibbing 911 (2014)
OK MOW Episode, Love Jodi Mills!
I posted this on another site but put a lot of thought into it so am posting here as well. This was one of my favorite episodes of Season 10 (this does not mean I was head over heels about this episode). I really like MOW episodes. I was hoping that there would be more "scary" episodes and this one wasn't really scary but I'll take it over Paper Moon and Ask Jeeves any day. I love Jodi Mills but also prefer her hair longer vs shorter. I thought the dynamics between Kim and Brianna were cute but didn't all together feel "natural", it felt like they were acting. We have had several vampire episodes and as far as vampire episodes go this one was not that great. The hippie vampire at the end really over played her part to the point of being a little ridiculous. Some direction for her to tone it down would have made her more believable. The final vampire scene, for me, was drawn out way too long, I would have rather seen more fighting and a lot less talking, especially by hippie chick. The way that Dean escaped his rope binding (they always escape) was less than exciting and we all saw what was coming with Brianna's breaking her sunglass lens to cut her rope but her escape method was a bit more interesting. Sam and Dean had a few really good scenes (there was one where I really laughed at Dean but can't remember right now what he said, but it was funny - something about his "fake" job?) Also, the scene at the end where Sam was concerned about the MoC and Dean said this is the "FIRST" time he didn't feel like it was compelling him was a red flag and also it was a lie. The last two episodes have ended with foreshadowing of what's to come with the MoC taking control of Dean again and it's presented to the viewer in such a cynical way from Sam (Sam doesn't believe Dean about the MoC) and it is a little insulting to the viewers because we know what's coming and these 3 minute endings "teasing" us about what is to come really fall flat for me. I still find the sequencing of episodes in Season 10 to leave the viewer with a very choppy feel. The flow of the story doesn't feel fluid and the episodes don't really feel like they are in the correct order. "Fan Fiction" was my favorite episode of the season. We all know the MoC is coming back and we have to wait until the mid- season finale to see what happens and then we get the holiday break before we get more. For me the first half of Season 10 has been choppy and very up and down and all over the place. I feel like the MoC storyline has been spread across episodes to intentionally be the mid-season finale to leave us "hanging" and wanting more but it has had the opposite effect for me. I feel like this season is disorganized and the journey is very bumpy. I'd really like to see the second half of Season 10 come together.
Supernatural: Paper Moon (2014)
SPN is My Favorite Show of ALL Time and Season 10 Sucks
I own every episode of SPN on my ATV and have watched them all many, many times. I consider myself a TRUE fan. My mom and I watch the show together every week and it has been such a treat to share with her. Jeremy Carver breathed new life into SPN when he took over Season 8 but he is now sucking the life out of the show with Season 10. PaperMoon was horrible, boring, poorly cast, predictable, contrived, and just plain irritating. I was insulted as a loyal fan that such crap was given to us in what should be a stellar season. I can say that Demon Dean and Crowley are all that are interesting this season and they go and "cure" Dean in an anticlimactic way in 3 episodes which was so sloppy it was maddening. We all know he's not cured but did you have to do the blood purification ritual so wrong that any idiot knew it didn't really work? Cole is a total bore. I get the character and how he is kind of Dean who is fighting a demon who killed his father and that kind of makes sense but at times I could not even understand what Cole was saying. Now let's talk about Castiel and Hannah - BORING, BORING, BORING. I am so sick of the lame angel story but I do love CASTIEL - I just hate the way the writers have been treating him since Season 7. The ratings for Papermoon were 1.93 mm viewers the last time I checked and that is not a good sign. Supernatural grew it's viewer ship over the past 2 seasons and was one of the few shows that increased the amount it charged for advertising but if they keep giving us the low quality Season 10 has produced so far that won't last. Writers quit being so freaking lazy and predictable. Take some notes from the writing on Sleepy Hollow and the special effects from Constantine who has FAR scarier demons. SPN has almost made demons cartoon characters and Hell is like an amusement park. The mythology is dying and I blame Jeremy Carver. Hell is supposed to be scary as Hell and it's just not anymore - the demons are all ridiculous. I love this show and want it to go on and on and on. I'm sure many people will tell me to stop watching instead of being so critical but I am so critical because I love the show so much. Ben Edlund if you are reading this please come back and rescue this franchise. Note to Jeremy Carver - try A lot harder and maybe get rid of some of the crappy writers and bring in some fresh energy.
