I first saw this episode when I debuted in October of 1998. I was six at the time, and I absolutely loved it.
I am now 23 years old and I just re-watched the episode...and even after nearly 18 years I still remembered everything about the episode and LOVED IT.
This episode's beautiful bittersweet melancholic tone and supernatural elements remained with me throughout my life. Maiden's Peak is one of my favorite episodes of any television show I have seen. This may sound hyperbolic, and childhood nostalgia plays a large part in my enjoyment, but I need to express my love for this episode.
