Killer Under the Bed (2018)
Falls Apart During Second Half
I won't give away the topic of this movie as I don't want to spoil it for anyone scrolling by, but if you're a fan of this type of movie, it is interesting. The intro scene is cheesy, but once you get past that, it really feels like it has some promise at first. I was entertained by the movie until about half way through when things started to get more cheesy. By the last 1/4 of the movie or so, things got more and more ridiculous to the point that by the end I was just glad it was over. I had fun watching until about halfway through as mentioned, but it was downhill from there. 4/10.
Her Boyfriend's Secret (2018)
Extremely Predictable
I wanted to like this movie more, but it was extremely predictable from almost the very beginning of the movie. The plot like doesn't really make sense - the main female character runs a business and clearly has chemistry with her good-looking and charming business partner, but instead pursues a relationship with a man she feels uneasy about from the beginning? Not very realistic and as mentioned, it is extremely predictable.4/10.
The Stepfather (2009)
Starts Off Interesting But Fizzles Out
This movie started out fairly interesting and began at a good pace. There were some suspenseful scenes that held my interest at first, but eventually things became cliché and predictable. The movie fizzled out for me about 3/4 of the way through. I did enjoy Penn Badgely and Dylan Walsh in their roles though and thought they were a good fit for their characters.
No Surrender (2011)
Pretty Well Done Made-for-TV Movie
I have watched my fair share of made-for-tv movies, so I generally know what to expect. I usually don't think they're terrible, but also not great. This movie was more believable and was paced better than many of the made-for-tv mystery/thriller type movies I have seen. The storyline was a bit predictable and the movie left me wanting a little more, but it did keep my interest all the way until the end. There was a twist I thought might happen, but I only had it partially right. Overall a decent movie for a one-time watch if you set your expectations appropriately. 6/10.
Calm Before (2021)
Started Out Suspenseful...
This movie started our suspenseful and interesting. As it went on, it unfortunately started to feel very drawn-out and a little bit all over the place. Some people are commenting that the movie didn't make sense - I think it did, but there were too many attempts at cliffhangers and twists and turns that it just lost my interest at some point. I stuck it out until the end but ended up feeling disappointed.
Hit and Run (2009)
Started Out Well But Quickly Became Unbelievable
Hit and Run started off well for me. The main character was interesting and played her part well, slowly pulling me into the story. At first I couldn't figure out why the movie was called "Hit and Run" when it didn't seem that she hit anything at all - rather that she swerved to avoid hitting some debris in the road. It isn't until later that she (and us as the audience) realize the horrible truth that she actually DID hit someone. Someone who was stuck to the grill of her Jeep. From here things stay interesting for a while, but quickly start to go downhill, especially when the person she hit, beat with a golf club, and then buried in mud shows back up to attack her. This alone is pretty unbelievable considering everything that happened to him, and the movie quickly becomes more and more unbelievable from here on out. I also am not a huge fan of gore in movies and this one just piled it on as it moved forward. Would not watch again or recommend.
Kenan (2021)
Loveable Cast & Lots of Potential
I am sad to see so many negative reviews here (especially since the show has only aired episodes so far). I especially dislike seeing the reviews that say "I watched 10 minutes of the 1st episode and then turned it off because it wasn't funny." What?! That is not even giving a new show a chance to prove itself. In my opinion, you need to watch a few episodes of a show to allow it to lay groundwork and start to tell a story and establish its presence before you really make that decision. I will admit - as a life-long Kenan fan, I watched episode one and was slightly disappointed - but I realized they were setting the stage to explain where he is at in his life during the show. I watched episode two tonight, and I will admit I had much more fun with the episode and thought it was better/funnier than the first. I think the show will only continue to grow and become better/more funny as time goes on. I really hope people stop judging so harshly and leaving such negative reviews so early and actually give this show a chance to get off the ground. I think there is a lot of potential here and I am excited to see how the show evolves as it moves forward!!
The Cry of the Owl (2009)
I Walked Away from this Movie Feeling Disappointed and Confused
I'm not sure if there was a bigger message here, but I walked away from this movie feeling disappointed and confused. Disclaimer: I have not read the book, which may have helped? I was drawn to this movie because I really enjoy movies with Julia Stiles. I think she had a great performance in this movie. I just feel confused at the overall point of the movie and the things that happened. I feel that there must be some overarching message or symbolism that I am missing... The movie seemed slow, strange, and drawn out. Many of the things that happened such as Julia Stiles being drawn to her stalker, breaking up with her boyfriend, her then ex-boyfriend teaming up with her stalker's ex-wife... It all seemed far-fetched and did not fully get explained for me by the end of the movie. I wanted to like this more than I did.
Indecent Proposal (1993)
Enjoyable but slightly unrealistic
I enjoyed this movie overall, especially because of Demi Moore. She put on a performance as usual that was spectacular. The storyline kept my attention and kept me interested throughout. Was the storyline a bit far-fetched at times? Yes. However, and brought in to light a situation that could happen to any regular couple (although probably not likely). It makes you think a little bit... What would a normal couple do in this situation? It is a balance of moral and value issues mixed with temptation. Overall I enjoyed it and would watch again. 7/10.
Fatal Attraction (1987)
Wanted to like more than I did
I wanted to like this movie more than I did. I liked the synopsis of the movie, liked the characters, etc. The movie started out strong for me, the middle was decent, but the mid to late/ending was a little bit more weak and far-fetched for me. I never was able to emphasize strongly with either of the main characters which was a problem. Both were in the wrong, both have their own issues. I think there was a story to be had here and I see the perspective of both characters, however, I was never strongly compelled to side with either one of them. I expected a little bit more based on knowing that this movie is a little bit more of a classic movie that is held in high regard by many people, however, it just does not do it for me. Didn't hate, didn't love. Would watch again. 6/10.
The Swap (2015)
Another Fun Body-Swap Movie
Has the "body-swap" plot been used in a comedy before? Yes. Are there better movies like this? Yes. However, although it has been done before, this is a fun, entertaining and family-friendly movie. Would watch again and recommend to anyone who is looking to watch something light-hearted and fun. 7/10.
Come and Find Me (2016)
Interesting First Half...
The description of the movie sounded very interesting to me and I was excited to watch. I was intrigued for the first 1/3 of the movie or so, but then things started to not make sense and get a bit far fetched. I still stuck with it, wanting to like it. However, the movie seemed to drag on and there were things in the second half and the end that didn't seem to fully make sense to me. 6/10.
Stranger in My Bed (2005)
Starts Out Well But Gets a Bit Far-Fetched
The story started out well and I wanted to like this movie, however, the ending just gets too far-fetched and a bit cheesy for me.
Stephanie (2017)
Good Until The Twist
I really wanted to like this movie. For me, it started out strong and I was instantly drawn in by the child actor trying to go about her day today life alone. I thought it was good until the parents came back. Then for me the twist just kind of ruined the movie.
A Husband for Christmas (2016)
Cute (but Admittedly Cheesy) Christmas Movie
This movie is admittedly cheesy, (think Hallmark or Lifetime holiday movie). However, if you're open-minded and are looking for a light-hearted movie to get you in the Christmas spirit, this will work. I enjoyed it while putting up Christmas decor.
