An Adult's fairy tale
13 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I luckily watched Pan's Labyrinth last night. We was meant to watch the other movie which was sold out and we waited more half an hour for this unbelievable movie. It was definitely worth waiting! As I knew nothing about this movie before watching it except a friend's strong recommendation. I was surprised to see that the story happened in the war and expecting a cruel fairy tale. It turned out to be a good fairy tale, yet I think it's made for adults.

People like us are like Mercedes, we are grown up and have experienced part of life, we are somewhat certain that there is no fairy tale in real life. The story to me is a story that people made up for a beautiful young girl who died in the war. But I had a wonderful dream while watching the movie. I saw a magic chalk that could open a door to heaven. I saw a princess had a full experience of being a human. It's a masterpiece.

It's worth to mention that there is much unexpected violence in the movie. Yet when Mecerdes hit the capital the audience started to applaud. And I love the scene when the capital drank the wine and hurt his wound. What a great imagination. I love this creative director! The music is fantastic and fits the movie very much! It's the theme of this movie.

Overall, it's the best movie I have seen over the past couple of years.

The Holiday (2006)

Romance didn't die
9 December 2006
I watched "The Holiday" mostly because I am interested to know what Nancy Meyers wants to say in this new movie. I was impressed by her previous "something's gotta give". To be honest, this new movie doesn't super it, yet with my favorite young actors, it is totally worth watching.

Basically you can know everything about the movie by the trailer, yet the message from the writer was finally delivered by winslet, in my opinion. Cameron is lovely in the movie as usual, yet I love her "in her shoes" better. Jude is fine, but I didn't see anywhere that he can stand out. He just did well, but didn't surprise me. Jack black did much better than that I expected. What can I say? I don't like someone like him to appear in a romantic movie, yet I think it is him that makes this movie lovely, also Eli Wallach, he was great too.

But Nancy Meyers didn't solve the problem when romance meets the reality. I was expecting that she could develop more in the meaning of life and love, yet this one doesn't help at all. It's a fairy tale that you can't see its back coz it's such a fragile dream.

But anyway, if you want to just have a romantic dream, want to relax, or you always fall in love with wrong persons, go to watch this movie. You might learn a little.

A good movie for family to watch together
24 February 2005
I watched this movie on TV twice. It's the first movie I've watched by Patrick Swayze. I was moved by the story and felt myself like that little Tom very much. I couldn't help crying when I saw the ending and told myself I should learn from this movie. And till then I began to understand the meaning of the movie.

It's a good movie for a family to watch together. I think many people can learn from this movie that we should cherish what we already have had in hand. As the saying says, happiness lies in satisfaction.

And it's not a big story, so it may not have got much attention from audience. But still I would say it's a good movie.

A warm story like a cup of tea on sunny Sunday afternoon
24 February 2005
I got to knew this movie when it's shown on TV. I didn't watch it carefully in the beginning as it's interrupted by ADs quite often. But I was moved right in the middle and couldn't help loving this movie.

Then I read some reviews here and learned it is based on a book named "fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop café" .

I read the book recently and I would say there is a little difference between the book and the movie, but both of them are great. It makes me love the life in Alabama, quiet and peaceful and lovely. The book tells more about the story but you can get moved by the movie as well.

I definitely suggest you rent it and watch it with some girl friends on Sunny afternoon. (I guess girls may love the movie more)I also strongly recommend you to read the book. It's awesome and makes me cry.
