While You Were Sleeping (1995)
love this absolutely gorgeous woman
its been a while since i've written a review on this site,,but after seeing Miss Bullock in this film,,i felt a need to do so..i do believe i've seen her in every film she's ever been in,and at my age,,(82,,in 2 weeks)i may have 4gotten if thats true or not,,but it matters not,for she is needed to be seen..not only for acting ability,,but for her beauty as well..there is no doubt that her looks but her,,as far as i'm concerned with another beautiful actress,,who else but Liz Taylor..yeah,,you heard me,,this particular film,,also happens to be a great movie,,it's what true love is really about,,films of this venue,,usually don't reach that pinnacle,,Al Ziemer an old friend,,has given me permission to see it again.. love you guys
Hugo (2011)
will surprise on Oscar night
my grandfather came to this country in 1898,,i remember as a child growing up in Brooklyn ,,that he said,,if u want to learn about this country,,go to the movies..he was finished with work at 3PM,,and took me to the movies..when the expression was.."this is where I came in,,",,today all movies start at a predetermined time,,and there is no such thing as watching a film from the middle..there were 2 theaters in the neighborhood,,the BENSON ,,and the LOWES ORIENTAL,,and regardless of what was playing,,we went to both,,in no particular order,,one of the first films i recall,,was "3 men on a horse"..and "the emperor Jones..with Paul Roberson,,and that was back in the early '30's..now I'm in my 80's,,sometimes i cant recall yesterday,,but those times are still with me,,i recently saw HUGO..and am truly sorry that GRANDPA isn't around to see that film..truly an awesome film..great story for children of all ages,,and ,,i believe an Oscar winner in more than just one category,,it wins my vote for best picture of the year,,regardless,,take your kids or grandkids to this great film,,i'm adding this the day after the Oscars were awarded,,i thought surely the members that voted would see beyond the fantastic greatness of this film,,but that did not happen,,one thing i noticed was the revenue this film has earned,,way beyond its closest competition,,i can not say how long this film will still be seen,,many years from now,,i'd bet on it..it,like many b4 it will be viewed for years to come,,for example "the wizard of oz" is a good example..i neglected to thank Mr.scorsese(hope i spelt that rite)..will be rembered more for HUGO,,than any film he has made in the past or the future 4 that matter,,take your kids your grandkids or your mom and dad,,it is truly a must see film..trust me on this,,jer
Oliver! (1968)
musical, yes, great film yes,,what more is there
i'm really getting old,,am in the midst of watching this 40 year old flick, and wonder what my grandchildren will be watching 40 years from now,,its an old saying,,but they don't make em like that anymore..it's not only the story, its the music, the acting both by young and old..the cast ,it would seem, were born to play their roles,,young oliver,,old Fagin..too many to mention them all,the role played by the judge oliver stands before,i've seen in other roles over the years..the artful dodger,,Ron moody as Fagin,,Mr and Mrs bumble,,the movie not only won 5 Oscars,,but took a few golden globe awards too..if you decide to see this film..do yourself a favor,,take a few if not all the children,to see this masterpiece
Sergeant York (1941)
memories
i watched this film today, and recalled the time i first saw this movie with Gary cooper, back in the early '40's..it touched me more today at my age than when i was just a kid,,looking back,i have to wonder that somewhere in the back of my mind,if this film wasn't responsible in some way,for so many of the things i did as a young boy, with regard to the heroism portrayed in the film.i doubt if anyone will read this,so i must confess, that in'47,i ran into a burning home,,and rescued a child, before the firemen could get there, and just walked away,or the time i saved a drowning man..there are a few more incidents, where i did what had to be done,,forgotten now by all but me..
My Fair Lady (1964)
great movie
as many of my peers(OLD FARTS),,i had the pleasure of seeing this play on Broadway,,and when it opened on the big screen,,when i found it to be on TV tonight(SATURDAY,10/20/07),i just had to see it one more time.i have read some of the numerous comments posted, and offer this..the comparisons made between julie Andrews and Audrey Hepburn, may or may not be true.the commentators have their opinions, whether we agree with them or not.the "play",on stage or screen is truly what its all about.the memories brought back to me while watching tonight, were,,to me the joy of seeing this "show",again.my thanks to the turner classic movie channel.movies like this are rarely seen by our younger generation, and i bear responsibility, for allowing this to happen.to all the old farts who read my comments,,make your grandchildren aware of this film, and so many others like it..thank you
29th Street (1991)
a true gem of a movie
in the 7th year of my 7th decade..i have a tendency to forget, more than i care to admit to.this movie fell into that category, but for some strange reason,it came to me last night..the most recent review was dated,,i think,,back in '05..but this film is truly a classic.why it has not appeared on the tube,is beyond me..all the earlier reviews mention the great acting, not only by the main leads, but every one in the film, truly outdoes themselves.i have a collection of over 200 VHS videos, and after seeing it in the local movie house when it first came out,i immediately added it to my collection..i intend to watch it this evening,,do yourself a favor,,get a copy from whoever,,and enjoy this film,ASAP,,why the AFI,has not given it the credit it deserves is beyond me..
Around the World in Eighty Days (1956)
new thoughts on an old film
i was fortunate enough to see this movie on opening night in new york city ,,,almost 50 years ago...i watched it again today on TV,,,enjoyed it then and was not nearly aware of its entire scope until watching it on TV..the credits at the end and the format in which they were done, speaks volumes as to what movies were about back then,,and that was a mere 50 years ago.i grew up watching movies on Saturday after noon as a kid in the 30's ,and perhaps never realized then,,what films were all about..entertainment,is and always will be the key word...David Niven as Phogg,Cantinflas as Pass Partou, and the entire cast were truly memorable, there are many cameos, even Sinatra is there.. do yourself and your grandchildren a favor ,,watch it with them,,they don't make movies like that anymore..Mike Todd deserves all the credit I realize that these are my comments on what is a review long overdue and subject to your comments .. love to hear from some of you who saw this film back then or those of you who saw it after reading my remarks
