No... just no!
20 October 2021
Ok... So it's a slow movie where nothing actually happens to be honest. And on moments where that nothing is happening they add some very ominous sounding background music. That music starts to swell and then... nothing happens! Until the end where something happens and it just makes no sense. It's a bad, bad movie. Just don't watch it. Don't.

Amazing show with unfair critics reviews
30 April 2021
I read somewhere that they hold it to the standard of Game of Thrones.

That is hasn't the same quality... But it's just an unfair comparison.

It's an amazing story, it has great and well written and well cast characters.

But I think it's not comparable in the sense that it's demographic must be a lot younger. It's a lot less dark and far more magical. It's far less heavy.

I love it, I want more. Guess I'll read the books in the meantime.

Which are already done, I might add. So no rushed ending, here ;)

Can't watch it because of bad acting.
6 September 2017
Seriously. I don't think I've ever seen less believable acting that Ryan Scott's. Within 10 minutes I'm annoyed with every line he utters. It's wooden and stiff... It's just bad acting!

Jeannette Sousa isn't all that bad, but also not really convincing.

I bet the story line is somewhat fun, but I just can't stomach it. Do not recommend.

So smart and surprisingly close to reality, if you think about it.

So, the premise is that only 3% of the people are good enough to live a certain way and the show is about the 'Process' that 20 year olds are supposed to take to see if they are good enough.

It's such a smart story and so very well executed. I read in another review that the acting was "wooden", but my opinion is the opposite. It's so on point! I sometimes couldn't breathe because of the stress of a character. Which are also cleverly worked out. Sometimes you get little glimpses into their lives before, which helps a lot!

I loved it, i loved the turns the story took. I was amazed by the last episode and also sad... Looking forward to season 2!!

When in doubt, just try it; it's only 8 episodes. Do watch it when you're in for something more serious and able to concentrate, because of the subtitles. You can't miss a thing if you want to understand it all.

The Dressmaker (I) (2015)

Christine King f***ed up the casting massively.

Warning: Spoilers
So... I actually liked the movie in general but just couldn't watch the half of it because the casting choices made it so incredibly unbelievable and awkward. And don't get me wrong, I love and adore Kate Winslet as an actress and she did nothing wrong. But portraying her as the same age as Liam Hemsworth and Sarah Snook, that's just silly!

Minor spoiler (that is obvious within 5 minutes of watching); Kate Winslet and Liam Hemsworth are supposed to be each-others' love interest and known each other from when they were kids. But the 15 years of age-difference between the two actors make it a very weird and unsettling combination. If it was supposed to have a Mrs. Robinson vibe, I guess it would be fine, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't. Just to be clear; I hope to look as good as Kate Winslet by the time I'm her age, but 15 years whit the male as youngest, it's a gap that's hard to bridge.

The story overall is actually pretty good, by the way! Made me wish I'd read the book instead of watching this over the top movie with a bunch of great but miscast actors thrown together...

Well.... that was horrible!

So... Without spoiling the book OR this movie; the movie sucked, the book did not. There is way, way more sci-fi then necessary, and BAD sci-fi that is! It's really poorly done, bad CGI and stuff. And where the story from the books was at times confusing, this was downright dumb and mad no sense. The biggest book-moments were cut out, probably to make room for the bad CGI... I kind of expected it to be bad, 'cause the 2nd one wasn't that good either. It also seems the actors get less and less convincing with each movie. Contrary to the Hunger Games (that also differed from the books somewhat, but functional imho), these don't live up to the books at all. If you read them, don't watch the movies. If you've watched the movies but started liking them less and less, read the books instead! They're worth it!

Ever seen the movie Equilibrium?
13 September 2014
So... first of all, I have not read the book so this is not a comparison. Not to the book at least.

But the story... It's not an original one, to be honest. And, as a movie at least, it's told and shown less alluring then the movie I know that tells a similar story; Equilibrium.

Some other reviewers also state that you don't really get emotionally connected to the characters, with which I have to agree.

All in all it's really not a bad movie and the underlying moral is beautiful! But if a movie tells a story you've heard before it's easy to compare it with each other and, in my opinion, the other told it better.

So; if you did like it or liked the story but missed the connection; Equilibrium!

Don't watch if you want to read the books!!
22 May 2014
First of all, I wish someone told me this before I watched the movie; The books are really good and if you are even so much as contemplating reading them, READ THEM FIRST!

The movie is, as usual, pretty different from the books. Which is fine! The movie is still very decent. Pretty good, even. It's just... It contains a huge spoiler that, in the books, is only hinted at in the second and not revealed 'till the third book. And I don't understand why, really. The movies would be better without the viewer knowing, in my opinion...

But... whatever! Writers choice. Nothing to do.

Pretty good, nevertheless! Enjoy!
