Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Star Trek at its finest!
This IS the Star Treck I fel in love with as a child!
It is the best version of whatever it coud be, at this day and age. It is noew, what was only imaginable at the begiining. This s the level Roddenberry, Nimoy and Shatner would have wished for if they could have had it in the 60es. And I wish they could have had it. It is a pity Nimoy had yo leavet befoe he hadc a chance to see it. He would have loved it.
Truely Star Teck ay ots finest. And being what I always knw it coiuld be.
Magnificent, in all aspects.
I adore it!
Dollhouse (2009)
Joss Wedon Masterpiece
"Dollhouse" definitely is Joss Whedon's masterpiece so far (aside from his own rendition of Shakespeare's "Much ado about nothing" which just had to happen at some point).
Brilliant concept, stellar cast and excellent execution.
I loved the series when it came out, and still do ten years later.
THE premise of the series is so good, that it meanwhile "inspired" others to use it for their own productions (if you know "Dollhouse" you will recognize it for example in "Self/less (2015)").
Joss should return to creating his own worlds again!
Go, be free and create! Your own creations are vibrant and genuine! It is high time for a new free-flying Joss Whedon.
Pacific Rim (2013)
Still one of my favorite SciFi movies
Saw a lot of comments here, calling this a "cliched" typical SciFi action movie and worse.
Well, I love this movie. There it is.
The concept is interesting, and at the time it was new. Let's not forget that we are talking about a six year old movie here!
I am, and always have been an avid SciFi fan. As such, it is really difficult to watch any newly produced movie, and not be instantly able to name the movies, TV series or books that "new" movie reminds me of or clearly copied from.
Not so with "Pacific Rim".
Yes, there are what you could call "giant robots" in play, but here they are piloted by people. And the premise of a neural interface between two people and a machine is definitely new. So is the idea of an alien invasion by way of a trans-dimensional rift at the bottom of the sea.
Not sure what went sideways with the second one. There, I did not even get past watching the trailer.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
I like a King Arthur, who does not take himself so overly serious!
"An alternative version of the King Arthur legend".
Yes, that indeed it is. And I love it!
The movie is fresh, incredibly dynamic and witty.
It deviates from the commonly told story, but it does so well; with wit and more magic than even "Mists of Avalon" on an epic scale and in an incredibly funny style.
I like a King Arthur, who does not take himself so overly serious!
Loved every minute of it. Every time I watched it.
Robin Hood (2018)
Seriously?!
First, I thought I stepped into the wrong movie... Is Nottingham not supposed to be in England? Now that looked more like someplace in the Far-East. At least somewhere warm.
Then, we suddenly are in DC's "Arrow", not just with Robin of Loxley's costume... Now a Robin Hood movie copies the DC comic inspired by the legend of Robin Hood? Gives you a wee bit of whiplash-induced nausea right there. I so hope none of the makers attempted to be "sophisticated" or "intellectual" by doing so.
And then a time-warp to the post-apocalyptic future: Where a bunch of Medieval nobles are dressed in the costumes re-cycled from the "Hunger Games" franchise. Wow!
Common people! You want to make a movie about a folk hero from the 13th or 14th century?
Read a book!
Read a book, visit a museum, browse the internet! Do something to inform yourself!
This, only eight years after Ridley Scott's masterful rendition, is embarrassing!
Self/less (2015)
Nice movie, but inventive? Not really...
Yes, I did like the movie. It ain't brilliant, but definitely is nice. Interesting idea as SciFi. Too interesting for me not imagining that someone somewhere might actually be working on it in reality. But that is besides the point.
People commented on it as it having a good premise but being limited in execution. Yes, one could have made more out of it. And, oops, someone already did....
As to calling the movie or underlying idea "inventive"... I would rather call it "reminiscent", since it reminded me of the series "Dollhouse"(which BTW even contained an episode in which the conscience of a dying person was transferred into another person's body. Reversibly and with very similar methodology, albeit described less vaguely).
So as to the "making more of the story"; well, the series mentioned ran for two seasons. A few years ago...
