The Cleaning Lady (2022– )

Okay, it needs to end now!
18 April 2024
Its been 2 and 1/2 seasons. It started off above average and is not sinking to the telenovela meets the worst soap opera possible of impossible scenarios. While the actors and production overall are certainly top notch, the continued same story line regurgitated with no end in sight is making it unbearable to the point where if it was not for the rest of the family wanting to see where it goes, I would have stopped in the middle of the previous season. I don't see why a more realistic script is not provided however it simply could come down to pandering to the very low expectations of the mass audience or the writers simply are not that good.

11 minutes

First off, if this was supposed to be a spoof and the female lead was intentionally acting horribly, I apologize and the rest of the public should have a peak. However, if this was in any way suppose to be serious TV, someone should be fired immediately. Perhaps if they are French speakers, they should've spoke French and put in some sub titles. No value was added with their speaking English, which they certainly spoke well but that was what they clearly were focused on, speaking that is, and not acting. What an absolute abomination and worse, waste of a beautiful back drop. For a travel brochure, its great, for entertainment; well we made through 11 minutes before we gave up. Even Jamie Bamber, a fine English actor, could not save it.

Is AI writing the script or...
23 May 2023
Perhaps AI should write the script. How is James Cameron or anyone with an IQ of 10 or above connected to this show? Has the viewing audience's expectation sunk so low that they're happy to sit through 42 minutes of absolute drivel based on absolute fantasy resulting in nothing entertaining to include no mystery, plot, sub-plot or surprised. I must say in all our viewing years we've never seen a show so poor, although, in its defense we've never watched any NCIS shows other then the first one which was so far from reality that we stopped right then. Why is it so hard to base shows on reality like True Detective or the great, but newly cancelled, East New York.

Food network survivor...ugh...
23 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
What a wasted opportunity. Bring some mature chefs and some reality show type back stabbing idiots to Tuscany and provide them accommodations at a beautiful villa and then have them compete against each other, made up of two teams, and then make the losing team's members vote on who should be removed from the show (aka voted off the island so to speak). What happens is the most mature, clearly qualified chefs, then get back stabbed by the less qualified because its clear the lesser qualified cannot beat them head to head. Its simply stupid as what has happened is the back stabbing two faced woman who runs a food truck in Boston is now in the final. Why has the food network gone to pot? Just bring in the best of the best and let them cook, be judged, and let the chips fall as they may.

After a season and a half; the Real Deal!
4 April 2023
My wife and I just watched the final season of Frasier as we missed it 20 years ago. We realized that Grand Crew, like Frasier, has us pretty much laughing from start to finish. Real, child like burst out loud laughing. The characters are authentic as are their relationships with each other and that is something hard to accomplish without real quality writing and acting. The cues are important and they are flawless with of course, a great center piece which is the Wine Bar that they all hang out in. There really are few true sit coms like this so we hope it carries on as it is rare for people our age to actually look forward to something as we do this show.

Entertaining, could've been great!
17 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I did not read the books but heard from plenty who did and were anticipating this series. They say its nothing like the books. What I expected was something in the vein of True Detective. I'm afraid this is entertaining in the vein of Castle, which is not necessarily a bad thing but the show in no way can be taken seriously when the characters take time to make comedic references in between people being injured or murdered. This simply is something that you would not see on a program presenting itself as a higher standard of television. All that said, it's entertaining so we'll certainly continue to watch. The actors are good.

As Jared Leto's transforms into Tom Hiddelston right before your eyes. Yes, if you let hollywood destroy your ability to be original and deliver emotional performances, they will. But remember, key phrase; "if you let them." Hollwood; since the late 80's the machine that keeps on destroying anything that ever held promise.

Finally, a cure for my insomnia without drugs
29 March 2022
More proof that too many people want to be accepted by getting together and saying how much they like severance yet no one who I spoke too could state what it actually is about. I gave it 20 minutes I can't get back and concluded only an idiot would watch further. I should have known better as with Ben Stiller as director the only one who actually does not what is going on is him. How could this review contain spoilers?

If it was not popular, we'd a had an ending!
10 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A great story, with great actors, muddled by stupid, unneeded sex scenes. I detest directors who think I'm so stupid that I don't know how horribly gay's are treated that it needs to be put in a TV show so I'd "get it.". The popularity of the show clearly resulted in a cliffhanger rather than closure. Typical of anything Hollywood. I won't hang in for another season of this.

American Horror Story: One flew over the cuckoos....
20 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ryan Murphy created AHS. Surprise, he created this. Surprise, we've got Sarah Paulson. Question: did she audition for the job? Judy Davis would make a better nurse Ratched. The pilot was plain exploitative stupidity. I was expecting a realistic deep look at the character we knew from 45 years ago. Let me simplify with spoilers; sure I believe she planned to poison a guy who'd pass out right in front of the governor, save him, then convince another guy to commit suicide while the governor was still visiting within the same hour in order to get a job in the asylum where her long lost psycho brother would soon be arriving. The original batman series was more realistic. This is eye candy simplified garbage for the mainstream masses who don't have to nerve to say it sucks.

Ironic Title
2 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
3 stars for the production value. To be fair we only got thru just over 30 minutes before we realized it was 30 wasted minutes. That 30 minutes breaks down to 1 sex scene every 10 minutes however. Here's a little tip for serious writers, a serious writer of course being one with artistic vision rather than economic vision; if you can't tell the story without gratuitous sex every 10 minutes, you're on the wrong path.

Absolute rubbish
14 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Lets be realistic; hey, I love you but I'm gonna go do my thing, which happens to be get married and have children. If you decide we should pursue our college days romance, at any time, text me. Sure, a women gets a text 15 years later with one word and with that she jumps on a plane, immediately, with no regard for her children? While purchasing the ticket the writer found it funny to have her procrastinate over whether she should sit in the window, middle, or aisle. It says one of two things; the story is crap, or the mother is crap, and that's all. It was even cliche'd near the end. I'm not shocked by the 7 rating however, as crap TV is popular with those who believe they saw something other then what they saw but are afraid to say so.

I think my title summed this up. I was expecting, with all the other positive reviews, something in the level of Mel Brooks. This was just plain improvised stupidity.

We've truly reached rock bottom!
13 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
More evidence that the audience' expectations have bottomed out. I can only assume the audience is the 18-25 year olds. As per other reviews, I don't wish to wait until episode 2 to believe something good is coming regarding my interest in continuing to watch. Episode 1 moves quickly from scene to scene in the first 15 minutes until it starts to provide some story line. The entire thing goes to pot after 40 minutes when we learn how screwed up the son is that he needs to dehumanize a hooker for a reason I suppose we're going to learn should we hang in there for the entire series. Editor, writer, director; we could have figured out that you wanted us to know the son was psychologically/sexually fouled up after advising the hooker how he expected her to behave. The need to hear every detail is only proof that the real exploitation here is the creators giving the voyeurs, aka the audience, what they want. Anyone who truly deems this show as entertainment of any sort probably should have a look at themselves.

Its a great show
30 August 2019
I can't believe this show got negative reviews. Its got a bit of everything and does not cut corners on the foreign scenes. If they're not in Rome or where ever., bravo as it certainly looks like they are there. Great story, fiction of course, but all the better for keeping it continuously entertaining.

On becoming asleep while watching
30 August 2019
C'mon. The only people who could fall for this are the same ones who fall for pyramid schemes. Its hard to come from an uneducated background and know that exceptionally gullible people exist. I certainly know its a fact, but to watch it. Uggh, this was painful.

Unexpected quality!
19 August 2019
The story line seemed to be fairly simple but quickly took the course we expected than took another course which we did not expect. Bravo! Great acting from persons we did not know, but do now, great film work/scenery and a great laugh throughout without any need for hollywood toilet humor or stupidity. We greatly recommend this movie.

Brad's Status (2017)

A good argument for refunds
19 August 2019
As hollywood sinks from massive ego overload I continue to argue for a max refund period which allows one to return to the box office within 20 minutes of a movie's start to request a refund. Brad's status is further evidence to the need for this as it is simply not fair to have to endure such a self pitying party on screen which occurs with much filler which serves no purpose. We made it to the 20 minute mark after which that as certainly enough. Ben Still is certainly capable and played the role, perhaps too well. Anyone who had what he had in the movie and felt the way he felt should simply seek real help.

TV show or music video
3 April 2019
The writing, acting is good, however the story lines are continuously backed by music played loud enough to take the lead role rather than the actors or the dialogue. The producers may be happy with the results now, however, it won't last and it should not. If I were to take the time to watch the show over again and track the dialogue to music ratio I'm sure it would be close to 1/1, however I believe the music is actually playing more than 50% of the time. Again, too bad as a little more creativity on part of the writers could fill those music parts as the acting and the story is very good. One season and it will be done in this format.

Glenn Close owned it.
11 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
J. Pryce and Max Irons also did a great job. This movie was not remotely what I thought it was going to be, that being a slow drug out personal drama of sorts focusing on the wife supporting a husband who neglected her. While that may be part of it, it was still much more and Glenn Close really shined. We could feel the inner turmoil of wanting to do one thing and yet doing the other. Great movie making in a hard to capture location, that being Sweden at night.

The writer who invented boredom!
11 February 2019
I don't quite understand trying to relay in depth things thru movies by letting in more space meaning the camera zooming by houses or focusing on certain things, or needing to see one brother make food and bring it out to serve to the other brother. This movie seemed like all filler. I believe it was nearly 5 minutes until someone actually spoke a sentence. In fairness, the movie did not pass my 15 minute test; that is, doing something to make it appealing within that time frame to keep watching. It switched scenes so rapidly that there was simply nothing to make of it. We did not even get to see the girl who apparently does something interesting and or life changing for someone. I think those persons that rated this movie highly believe they can "relate" better, or they're simply exceptionally gullible. Many good actors gone to waste here and a good argument for refunds which is a real problem. If I want to leave at say, the 10 or 15 minute mark, I should receive a refund.

FBI (2018– )
7/10
Above average and I hope it continues
31 January 2019
This is a good show. While there clearly are cliches due to it being network, the acting is very good and most importantly, so far its not drenched in some personal relationship or potential relationship/sexual tension type thing that normally takes the lead over everything else. Nobody cared about crime on Castle, all they wanted to know was where the relationship between Castle and Beckett was going. FBI is pretty straightforward in the FBI dealing with crime etc. Regardless of sometimes being unrealistic, its not trying to be anything but what it should be.

I'm as sad as the show is!
26 March 2018
We had great hopes; James Patterson and Alan Cumming. I anticipated something in the vein of True Detective (year one of course). What we took from episode one was a sort of Castle in the making and although we loved Castle, this is not what we expected from the aforementioned duo. This role wastes Cumming's talents as well as Patterson's. We were more taken back by what we were witnessing than we were interested in who the killer was and by the time the killer was revealed we could care less as we just wanted this let down to end. I can't believe we have no interest to watch any further. We hope Cumming quickly puts this behind him and moves on (or back) to better scripts/writing as soon as possible.

Better Call Saul (2015–2022)
3/10
The new normal
9 February 2015
I won't be too negative but it seems the new normal for many viewers fed up with the stagnation of network TV is slow moving scripts with flawed, conniving characters. I like the flawed part, but, the slow quickly becomes boring. I believe it took nearly six minutes until the show actually had any dialog. Perhaps given its not a movie, it can move slower and provide what a movie provides in 90 minutes over a season of shows. Saul could probably be said to be better than network TV but not because it is better, but because network TV is so bad now and cable format is simply an alternative to the network format. As an example, True Detective was slow, but McConnaughy kept you so engaged that it did not matter. Saul pales in comparison to other cable and left us simply waiting out the end as there was not one character, or situation, that kept us engaged enough to say; we can't wait for the next show.
