American Hustle (2013)
possibly the best film of 2013
From the opening scene in American Hustle, I knew I was going to go on a unique, fun ride of a film. The first ten minutes of American Hustle was already exciting and fun enough to have my attention and investment throughout its entirety. The story centers on two con men, or one con man and con woman, played wonderfully by Christian Bale and Amy adams, get caught red handed by officer Richie dimasso, and are forced to help him con corrupt politicians, in exchange for avoiding jail time. This sets off an array of trouble, as they find themselves getting revolved in a world of dangerous men, and vulnerable situations, including the wife(Jennifer lawrence) of Irving (Christian bale) Who can destroy the whole operation. The strongest element in this film was the strong performances and it's what drove this Films success.
Saturday Night Live: Jimmy Fallon/Justin Timberlake (2013)
9/10 refreshing episode
There has been a lot of ups and downs this season for snl. But that's not a huge negative because this happens nearly every season. But it seems like whenever it comes around holiday times, this is when snl takes full advantage to leave it's live audience members in gut wrenching, warm feeling humor. Tonight was no exception. Jimmy Fallon returned to host this week with musical guest Jt. Already the first segment set up for a fan favorite and you knew that this night would be star studded and nostalgic in its own self indulgent, but quite entertaining way. The first sketch was a celebrity family feud and although it wasn't a very memorable one, just seeing jt and Jimmy trying their hardest not to laugh reminds you of the good days of Horatio and Jimmy always busting up. Barry Gibb talk show returned and it was fun as always with a surprise cameo with Madonna. The twin bed music video was what I thought would be the highlight of the night, with a dominant female cast singing a really catchy song. But the moment in that music video that really set off everything was seeing the 7th grade pics of everyone. However my favorite sketch of the night was the last one, which is usually just considered garbage time. But fallons and Strongs rendition and twist on a holiday song is painfully realistic, funny, awkward, but ultimately the most adorable and heartwarming sketch in snl history. This episode was a hit
