Conciencia Sucia (Dirty Conscience) (2021)
Fairly compelling effort
Despite depicting a problem covered in hundreds of movies it is a valid portrayal of corruption at the heart of a special unit of Peru's National Police, with the moral dilemmas that it causes and implies.
Effective casting. The actors actually look like real Peruvian policemen and criminals. They are not upper class or upper middle class whites pretending to be and to personify radically different people. That helps to make this film a bit more believable.
The story mostly takes place at the less beautiful parts of the big Peruvian capital city . The action scenes are more than decent and not excessively unrealistic even though there could be less martial arts and more street fighting. Is it the first Peruvian film with martial arts action? On the other hand, you can tell some minor characters could benefit from having better actors but this comes with the restrictions of having a tight budget. The director manages to grab the attention of the audience right from the start.
