Wanted (2008)
Wanted... to get out of the cinema as fast as i can
To get right to the point i found this movie very distressing to watch, I do like watching action genre films but there's a line drawn where movies is divided by the sense of being realistic which I prefer to enjoy and totally unbelievable, I'll put the movie in the place of being completely far-fetch.
Is all that special effects necessary? well watching the film it appears it relies more on effects than the storyline itself's that I really had a problem with. Since we are in the 21th century now and film-makers are looking for new ways of being innovative this is where the problem lies. Too many film makers are using their film budget more on special effects these days, like 'Wanted' it was hard to take notice of the narrative because of the constance special effect. So to answer the question, special effects is necessary in disaster genre pictures such as 'The Day after tomorrow', action films such as 'Shoot em up' and 'Wanted' uses special effects to make it look better when it looks OK on it's own. That is why I prefer The Die Hard, Rambo movies 20 years ago where special effects weren't a issue.
I mentioned about it being beyond disbelieve, audiences today aren't considering the logic, but are more being amazed by the slow-motion scenes,fast-pace action and special effects. For example, one scene in the movie Wesley Gibson crashes his car and spins over a limo to shoot the target through the sunroof. Thinking about it if a car spins over this limo it will take approximately one second, in this second the character had time to say the line 'I'm sorry' and shoot the target when the car is spinning. At that point I couldn't bare to watch any more.
Final outcome is that modern films are taking special effects as a alternative to make to appear better, which I dislike about action films today. This movie would of been better if the special effects was cut down or taken out, the acting was average and had an interesting story with twists. But unfortunately this year 'Wanted' is the worst movie of 2008 so far...
Hide and Seek (2005)
I was glued to my seat, otherwise I would of left
People always ask me what is De Niro's worst movie, I can possibly say "Hide and Seek". De Niro isn't experienced in Horror, the only horror movie he did great was Mary Shelly's Frankenstein. De Niro should stick movie that are always his best "Crime".
Fanning was very annoying, her acting was awful. But at least I didn't pay to much attention to her, sadly it was the story. The storyline was so predictable it was like other psychotic thriller that makes you guest what's going to happen next.
Finally the ending was the most unnecessary ending ever. I don't know why they should of made the imaginary friend a pink tall rabbit named Harvey.
Complete waste of time!!!!!
Silent Hill (2006)
Best Horror Film of the year so far!!!
I've finally watched this movie last night and fortunately I was very impress. To start with I was mostly on the edge of my sit throughout the film. When the lead character Rose Da Silva enters Silent Hill the atmosphere was very intence, it was nothing like the remake of "The Fog" which look like something from a Bon Jovi video, it was literary that the whole town was hiding behind this mist. I know it's based on the game "The Silent Hill" but had no idea what the storyline is because I only played on a game demo.
The acting was adequate, Sean Bean's acting could of been better, his didn't really need to put on an American accent. The effects were very technicality well done such as the bleeding of the walls.
Not only I found this movie tense and gripping but I also found it frighting disturbing. When watching through and seeing them zombie children, looking all mangled and horrible and the screaming sound they made gave me a cold shiver down my spine. Also when that officer was being burned, it was so graphic, I couldn't really watched.
In conclusion, this movie is literary the best computer game base movie I've since. Unlike "Resident Evil" the movie actually sticks to the games story. I think UWE Boll should get some tips from this movie, because I might make his movies exceptional to watch.
Ôdishon (1999)
Disturbing and sick but still good
Japanese are always great with horror movies, Ringu, the Grudge are movies that shocked me always when watching them in the dark. When I first saw audition I didn't know what the story is about, how it was going I thought it was a romantic drama when the guy liked the woman and was going on dates with her. Then towards the end the whole story takes a turn, when you find out the woman is a psycho, it surprises you that what makes a superb horror movie. Plus the villain (the woman) you kind of feels sorry for her because of her past and you really don't want her to be evil. The point where you see her torturing her victims that's when you see her true evil side that makes her an new wave of psycho villains.
The sweet innocent looking insane women villains
In conclusion, this film is a very unique style of horror genre that put Japanese horror directors on the Hollywood map.
Wild Wild West (1999)
The Bad Bad West
Worst western I seen, this movie is an insult to all westerns. I'm going to start with the accuracy of the movie which is 5% accurate, why they have a Lincoln look a like president I don't know, the director probably didn't know any presidents around that time. Why the hell they got machines and vehicles in this movie I do not know, I mean cars hasn't been invented until the end of the 19th Century and where did that Giant Mechanical Spider come from. Also that bloody flying vehicle, hey Wright Brothers some one beat you at it. I really think the director should do this research before filming this movie.
Now on to the storyline, one word for that Lame!. It's like a spoof version of the real life civil war assassin "John Wilkes Booth" who assassinated Lincoln after the civil war. I said to myself when watching this, it's like Maverick meets James Bond with the gadgets and diabolical machines.
The actors in the movie lets start with Kenneth Branagh, never get a English actor to play a pure Red Neck, it doesn't work!! Kevin Kline, even though his funny in every movie I seen him in, I didn't think he that good in this, he was to predictable. Salma Hayek, I found her very annoying in this movie. Finally Will Smith, sorry but in Independence Day his Quotes and out-liners "Welcome to Earth" were painful, but in this it's even worst, I just couldn't watch it because it was irritating.
Finally I like to say please take westerns seriously, this movie is a piece of s**t that needs swiping up.
Braveheart (1995)
God gave birth to this movie
This outstanding piece of work from Mel Gibson makes it the best epic film ever. Stands next to "Last of the Mohicans" and "Gladiator". Braveheart is truly an epic masterpiece, the storyline, the acting, the directing is superb.
William Wallis is a Scottish rebel who plans to take over England. After the death of his father who was trying to bring freedom to the Scots. Wallis takes on the cruel greedy tyrant English King Edward the Long shank played by Patrick Mcgoohan. Filled with bloody battle scenes, one of the best is the first major battle when the Scots takes on the invaders.
Braveheart gives one of the best one-liner ever, towards the end when Wallis is about to be executed, Wallis screams out "Freedom!!!!" this gave me goose bumps all down my arm.
For Gibson's directorial debut, he wins six academy awards including Best Picture and Best Director, in which Gibson deserves for this epic masterpiece.
White Heat (1949)
Cagney at this best!!!!
This role is so made for Jimmy Cagney, he was born to play this part as Cody Jarrett. He is the ultimate villain of golden cinema and what makes a brilliant movie is a brilliant villain. It's one of these films that goes down as classics, no one will never forget this movie.
Jimmy Cagney plays Cody Jarrett, a nuttier who is a crime boss mastermind of a gang. Jarrett and his mates Zuckie Hommell (Ford Rainey), Het Kohler (Mickey Knox) and Giovanni Cotton Valetti (Wally Cassell)robs a train at the beginning of the film where the train engineer says to Jarrett "You won't get away with it, Cody" and Jarrett responds "you got a good memory for names, too good" and shoots him. This wasn't the only great scene in the movie. The most memorable scene in the movie is probably in the prison when one of the inmates tell Cody that his mothers dead, because Cody's mum was the only greatest person in this life he goes insane and starts punching prison guards, outstanding.
Jimmy Cagney to me stood out more than the rest of the stars in the 30s and 40s when he sticks to rolls like this. "Public Enemy", "Roaring Twenties" and "Angels with Dirty Faces" are also Cagney's greats but White Heat showed Cagney's true character and actor's today like Michael Madsen, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are truly inspired by Cagney in this movie.
Jack Frost 2: Revenge of the Mutant Killer Snowman (2000)
I could pull a better movie out of my ass
Talk about rubbish! I can't think of one good thing in this movie. The screenplay was poor, the acting was terrible and the effects, well there were no effects. I can't believe the writer of this movie did Identity, everything in this movie made me sick to start to finish.
The front cover of the video box shows a showman with shark like teeth and scary eyes. I looks like a scary villain, but like the old saying "never judge a book by it's cover", the whole villain looked like a cardboard cut out. One part in the film a girl gets killed by a salad tongs, terrible. The setting was bad enough, like they could of set the whole thing in Lapland but no, a tropical island instead.
I took this movie as a spoof, which I think they wanted it to be but the only thing that made me laugh in a bad way was the tacky effects. You can argue that I haven't watched the first one, but seeing this I would be safe if I wouldn't attempted it.
The biggest joke in this movie is the effects, the snowballs looked like they were home made, and that carrot was a complete embarrassment. If I would of guess the budget of this movie would of probably be between 8 to 9 pounds fifty. The producer in a last minute panic must of grabbed the actors for the street gave them the script told them they have 6 minutes to practise these lines and shoot on a island.
Lastly the acting in the film was painful, it was like the actors forgot their ordinary lines and made them up the way through.
In conclusion I give this film: 0 stars out of 5
Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)
Tarantino at his weakest
This film did not impressed me at all, there was more talking than action. Even thought in all of Tarantino's films the conversations are interesting funny and random but in this one it was over the top. The part with the caravan with the snake in the case and the pulling out the eye was the only part that was entertaining, the rest especially the end scene with Bill was "tedious", too much of "How's your life been?" "Tell me your life story". The first film was good, because it's original e.g. with the manga cartoons, but there was nothing new about this second film. Tarantino should stick to his amazing crime thriller classics (Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction)
