Great but not real
17 January 2023
The first episode should capture the attention and open up the great story to unfold but... though it is quite an interesting plot, the acting is quite poor, dialogues and soundtrack are really not helpful. It feels like a dream, not a real story. Everybody is tense and acts the same way. The story has potential but it is carried on through poor means of expression. Bad guys are bad but we know nothing about them except that they are bad (and stupid). The good gays are good and scared. Nothing more about them. They talk to each other about what is obvious. It is a classic script failure - talking about what we already see. There is tension but... just intense tension that after a while creates only a sense of tiredness. It is already pretty obvious what is going to happen but... who knows, maybe we might be surprised.

Jesus had to learn who he really was. It could be very true.

It is a bold attempt to write a screenplay about young Messiah's life and turn it into movie since we have no canonical sources (perhaps it is so for a reason) apart from one clear episode in the Gospel. And the authors should be congratulated for this attempt (perhaps it is first one). For today's audience the movie would appear rather emotionally flat. And there is no special effects, not unexpected and shocking turns along the way. But it has good side too. It shows that the life of young Messiah probably was simple and very human. It shows that Jesus had to learn who he really was and his earthly parents had to help him to find it out. It could be very true.

Risen (2016)

Mixture of facts and fiction. But the message is there.

Mixture of facts and fiction. It is interesting to see the story through the eyes of Roman Official. It is also interesting to see him discovering the Risen Jesus himself. There is no records or even well documented tradition that it happened but though it is fiction, in fact it could happen. Unfortunately the action in Galilee is too much of mixing facts and fiction. It does not sell well. But in general portraying Jesus and the Apostles in each movie of this kind is a challenge. Overall, for those who know the Gospel well this film might be interesting and just interesting. For those who do not know the Gospel it might be confusing. But the message is there. And it counts.
