Amazing work of art!
8 April 2024
This is an amazing piece of art. It starts off oddly, almost horroresque, and then turns into a fun, enjoyable romp of the exploration of one woman's sexual experiences, and her need to become independent and change the world. This movie is a brilliant mash-up of humor, bright wit, engaging cinematography, wonderful character development, and is definitely not for the close-minded. It becomes a piece of enlightenment as the movie draws to a close. Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo are wonderful in their respective roles and the supporting cast is just as great! My favorite part was the ship cruise. It was a delightful moment. This is a movie only for people with an open mind and who are enlightened.

Suspend your disbelief
21 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This show is reallh great for what it is! Yes, the overall premise of the main plot line is a bit farfetched, but the acting and character development is really what I love about this show. I have been a fan of Mark Paul Gossalear since Saved By the Bell, and I think this is his best role so far. I'm eight episodes in and he just keeps getting more rounded with his character. As much as he plays a bad person in this, there's a depth to his character I want to know more about. Why did he kidnap Gabi in the first place? Clearly something triggered him in his past. I can't wait to learn more. I also love the supporting cast and want to learn more about their backstories. Give the show a chance, suspend your disbelief, and you'll hopefully enjoy it for what it is.

It's like Musical Buffy all Over Again!
5 August 2023
I'm typing this as I watch the episode.

This is brilliant!! It reminds me of my favorite Buffy the Vampire Episode!!! It's so much fun to watch and the music is fantastic!! "But why are we singing?"

Even the intro credits were adapted into an acapella version of themselves. So awesome!!

Some musical episodes of shows can bomb, but Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has a great plot to explain the reason for the singing and it's not overly done to the point of excess and annoyance.

I do have one question. Do all of the actors actually sing with their own voices or are do they have singing actors? If they are all doing their own, they are all amazing!

Salma Hayek's Character
9 June 2023
I love Channing Tatum, and I loved the first two Magic Mike movies, but as I'm sitting here watching this one, I am irritated by Max, the character played by Salma Hayek. She is such an annoying *itch with no emotional growth. I didn't like her in the beginning of the movie and I still don't like her towards the middle of it. She's just so whiny, moody, and NOT the best version of herself.

The plot itself is ploofy at best There's no solid ground to stand on because there's no chemistry between the two main leads and the plot just falls flat because of that. And not enough dancing like before.

Starts with a Bang...ends with a....well....
24 January 2022
I really wanted to like this movie all the way to the end. Acting was great, but like some others here commented, it just fizzles out halfway through it. There's one scene in which I thought it would end, but nope....it just dragged on another 20 mins or so. I got bored, so I just read a synopsis and then watched the twisted ending.

Some of the plotline seemed convoluted and outrageous, and I do love satire and dark comedy, but some things just seemed unplausable to me.

Won't waste my time watching it again.

Pros: acting was great, some funny moments, music was cool Cons: went on too long, plot issues.

Nothing Spectacular but a Fun Watch
16 January 2022
I've been a fan of Nora Roberts and her novels for years, but I don't remember reading the book this was based off of, so I can't compare. However, I gave the movie a shot and it was okay. I figured out the killer as soon as they were introduced, so there really was no guesswork involved. It was a pleasant, brainless watch for a Sunday afternoon, but I won't watch it again. There seemed to be some uneven dialog in areas, where I thought maybe it was just bad editing or bad writing, but otherwise the plot sort of flowed well. The red herrings were obvious though.

If you're looking for a brainless, not-too-serious murder mystery different from the Hallmark movies you're used to, it's a decent one, but I think the book would be better, as seems to be the case with most Robert's adaptations.

Take It With a Grain of Salt
20 October 2021
So, it's not the best, but not the worst. I am pretty sure the writers are purposefully parodying alien storylines, and they are also showing how convoluted these theories and cover-ups are. Faking the moon landing? Of course this is all parody. The black and white scenes are reminiscent of those old B alien movies, ones which would end up on Mystery Science Theater. The present day scenes I kind of only half watched, but the end reminded me of Men in Black. I honestly think Ryan and company are trying to make this half of the season more humorous and light-hearted, after the first half was so dark and uneasy. Hoping next season they go back their pre-covid roots.

Haters going to Hate
21 September 2021
I'm revisiting this movie again after watching it for the first time last year, and I forgot how funny it is. I have a soft spot for Salem because I grew up near there, and loved that this movie brings us back there again.

Yes, Hubie has an annoying voice, but I never got the impression he was special needs, and I've worked with a lot of disabled students in my career.

This is a fun, strange, quirky Halloween movie that pokes fun at itself. Just look at Tim Meadow's horrible wig and Kevin James's obviously fake beard, and you'll realize this is all for fun...until the end, where the serious lesson comes in as only Sandler knows how to do it. It's a funny, touching moment that really moves you if you care about how you treat people.

I loved it and will make it an annual watch each Halloween.

I Was Hooked....
24 February 2021
It only took me two days to watch all six episodes of this. I started yesterday with two episodes, hoping to pace myself and complete it within three days, but I got so hooked on it today, I finished the last four of them. This limited series is outstanding. I love David E Kelley's stuff, most notably, Picket Fences, and this did not disappoint. I was intrigued and mesmerized by every episode. I kept trying to figure out if they had the right culprit, and kept questioning EVERYTHING. The pacing was a little slow at times, but the writing kept me going. And Hugh Grant, Nicole Kidman, Lily Rabe, and Donald Sutherland are some of the most talented performers out there. Their acting was some of the best I've seen in a while. Grant was especially wonderful as the charismatic, yet untrustworthy Jonathan, who I constantly kept going back and forth about. No wonder why this has been nominated for Golden Globes and SAG awards already! If you don't like intriguing, intelligent, psychological thrillers which you actually have to stop multi-tasking or put down your phone to watch, then don't bother. If you do, definitely check this one out. You won't be disappointed.

Intense!!! I cannot say more about this. I was on the edge of my seat the entire episode. The last two minutes of the episode made me fangirl squee like I was back in middle school watching the original. It was everything I wanted and more!

It doesn't get better than this. This episode was fantastic; heartbreaking and touching at the same time. I cried all the way from "Goodnight, My Angel" until the end. If NBC cancels this show, they're fools.

One of the Best this Season
13 April 2020
I haven't read this book yet, but I've read the last four, and knowing how Diana writes, I knew this had to be an important episode. This episode showed Rogerss internal struggle coming to grips with what he had gone through, and how he overcomes that struggle with the help of Ian. I felt the cinematography was excellent in portraying what goes on in Roger's head, and how it ties into the whole idea of his silence and the movies he and Brianna used to watch together. As another reviewer stated, these are all important character development moments that end up playing roles later on in the series. Awesome episode!!!

I am in love with this show!!! The sound of silence was beautifully done and I teared up during it. And I loved the ASL version of Fight Song because i used to work with deaf students...what a great tribute to the deaf community!! I love the storylines, especially the one with Zoey and her dad. I love Peter Gallagher. Hope he stays a while longer!! And Happier pulled at my heartstrings in a personal way....so yeah, keep it up Zoey!!❤❤❤

Funny, fresh, funky, fantastical...
14 January 2020
I just watched the premiere episode on demand and I loved it so much, I want more right away. It's fresh and funny, but has touching moments of sorrow and heartbreak to keep it grounded in reality. I love Skyler Astin from Pitch Perfect, which is why I was drawn to this series, and I also loved Glee, so was very excited. The show did not disappoint. Cannot wait until the next episode.

NO laugh track...read the trivia, people!!
15 November 2019
Just wanted to get on here and support the show, which I'm only watching one episode of, but am enjoying it. The people complaining about a laugh track need to stop it...they film this in front of a live audience. You can tell because the laughter is random and different each time. Stop giving bad reviews to something based on something you're not sure of is even happening.

I tried...really I did...
18 January 2019
So, when i saw the previews of this, I had no interest. How dare they reboot Roswell?? Just like the new Charmed, I was completely turned off...until...I heard that the characters were aged ten years and that Liz was coming back to her "high school crush ". So, I dvr'd it, thinking maybe it would be a continuation of the original...and I'm currently sitting through it, shaking my head. I'm so disappointed. It lacks the magic, mystery, and etherial feeling of the original. AND there's too many political themes that don't need to be involved. Why can't the CW stop making reboots? Can nothing be sacred? And who the hell thought it would be a good idea to make a scifi story sooooooooo lethargic? I am going to stop the dvr, I lost interest in the new series and found the original on Hulu, so now I can revisit MY Roswell!!

Don't Judge by the Negative Reviews...
2 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I normally don't leave reviews on IMDB unless I find that the reviews of a movie I have seen are based on reviewers who leave one or two sentences about why they didn't like the movie without giving any real basis as to their opinions. The majority of the good reviews on this movie were thought provoking and along the same lines as what I am going to write here. First off, I started watching The Open House for a few minutes, and then decided to see what the reviewers on IMDB thought. That being said, I was hesitant to continue watching until a friend of mine said they liked it, so I resumed watching. I have to say, this movie was not at all what I was expecting. I thought it was going to be more of a supernatural haunted house ghost story, but clearly the Netflix description lists it as a "Thriller/psychological thriller", which off the bat, lets you know that you will be in for some twists and turns. SPOILERS AHEAD: The beginning starts off in typical horror movie fashion: A mother, father and teenage son are all happily living together. Then tragedy strikes and the mother and son need to leave their home and venture to a relative's house in the woods. From there, weird and strange people show up, leaving you wondering who is out to get the family, and who is not. I found myself questioning each supporting character's motives as they stopped to say HI to the mother and son, or interacted with them in other ways. Who should they trust? Who should they be wary of? It's very much like real life. When you are in a new environment and you don't know anyone, you're on guard and making sure that you are cautious of who you reveal too much information to. We see this when the son cuts off his mother's conversation with the strangers she meets. Clues within the movie are subtle but if you pay attention, you will pick up on the "why" right away. The son points this out when he discusses the actual process of an "open house". He states that you give realtors the run of the house, and strangers come in when you're not home, and have access to the house. And who is to say whether or not the realtors check the entire house before leaving? It's random. And that is the point of the whole movie. Randomness. Some crazy person sees an open house, decides that the house is big enough to hide out in and observes the family members while they are sleeping and stalks them while living in the basement. He finally seizes his opportunity to torture and kill them, and then moves on to the next open house. Do we know who the killer is? No, but my assumption was that it was the boiler man, given the fact that we see a shadow similar to his stature in one scene when Logan gets up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, and we see his shoes, which are clearly workman's boots. However, I was kept guessing until the very end, even so far as to think perhaps it was the police officers or even the neighbor's supposedly dead husband. . My guess as to why many people did not like this movie was because of the unsettled feeling they were left with, because it hits too close to a thought of "wow, this could happen to me." And indeed, it happens more often than we are led to believe. Was I left unsatisfied? In a way, yes. But that is the beauty of a well-written psychological thriller (NOT A HORROR MOVIE), it leaves you with questions, leaves your mind to be riddled with feelings of uneasiness and unsettled thoughts. After all, how well do we really know the people we deal with everyday? The people we let into our houses without a second thought about what their backgrounds may be...this movie makes us think, and maybe, cautions us to be more aware of who we allow into our lives and into our homes.

Soooo....Yeah...The Best Part About This Movie was...
10 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The soundtrack at the end credits. I fell in love with the music, so if nothing else, I'm glad I didn't give up and shut the movie off before it was over. Stacy Earl's "Devil Inside You" was beautifully haunting and was very hard to find online. I found it on the apple store. Anyway, back to the movie itself. I love horror movies and am always looking for new and intriguing ones to watch (but I stay away from realistic gore and serial killer movies on most occasions). That being said, I was mini binging movies today and after finishing "The Haunting" again, and watching "Amityville: The Awakening (which I'd give about 5-6 stars)" for the first time, I decided to check out this one because I enjoy watching Dominic in "Shadowhunters" on Freeform (Very upset it's been cancelled after season 3..sigh Freeform people are idiots). I had some trouble following along with the story as the plot seemed very thin and there were quite a few holes (why did he go after Alex Rocco's character? How did Vince end up in that dungeony thing? Why did Timmy have to die?). Of course, I was busy making jewelry items so I may have missed some details but overall, I just couldn't wrap my mind around what was happening. Some of the dialogue was thin, and the concepts just weren't super feasible, even for a horror movie. I will say, the ending was surprising, but again, I just didn't understand the whole concept. Who were Zach and Shawn in another life? They showed them in a different time, but how did they become evil? So much could have been explored in more backstory, but with a runtime of 141 minutes, there really wasn't a whole lot to expand upon. My favorite part of the movie besides the music at the end was seeing Carey Elwes, which had been a surprise to me when I turned it on. Watch it on demand if you're interested, so you don't pay money for it, and hell, even fast forward to check out the hauntingly beautiful end credit music.

Getting a Bit Better
12 February 2016
As someone who has read the books except the last one (the first was quite a few years ago), and who has seen the movie (And although I liked the movie, I kind of have forgotten a lot of it), I was excited to see that this was coming out. However, I suffered through the first episode. I don't remember much about the actual book storyline in terms of Luke and some of the changes people are talking about on here, so I didn't really pick up on them, but I was annoyed with how bad the acting was. Specifically, Clary, Alec and Isabelle's. (I will get to Isabelle in a moment). I felt that Alec was very stiff and Clary was acting as if she were in a high school play (That scream a few episodes back when she was getting the rune placed on her back was a bit forced, IMHO). I liked Isabelle, thought her acting was okay in the first episode, until I watched the next few. I think it was in the 3rd, in which I noticed she developed a slight Spanish accent. I don't know where the actress originates from, but if she has an accent in real life, then it was coming through at times in the episode. This is a minor detail, but a bit annoying.

Although the acting was atrocious in the first episode, and felt like I was sitting through a college production of badly written book dramatization, I wanted to give it a chance. I know that freshman series' with relatively new actors can take some time to find their niches, so I have continued watching. Episode 2 was painful, though I really enjoyed seeing the spark between Clary and Jace (I'm still not sure what to make of Luke...I thought he was on Clary's side in the book) but episode 3 was a bit more substantial. Episode 4 with Magnus was the best episode I have watched so far. I am currently sitting here watching episode 5, and 11 minutes in, Alec's acting still is kind of stiff (Not sure if that's how he's playing the character), Clary is getting a bit better, and Jace is just continually getting hotter. (He was the main reason I started watching in the first place--I still like the Jace from the movie better..and the Clary). I'm glad to see they are showing Clary training with Alec, but I remember from the book how she trained with Jace, and am hoping they start showing those scenes too.

As for the plot development and special effects: The plot is coming along. As I have said, I don't remember much from the books but it seems like they are staying somewhat true to the main storyline (And Simon's), and the special effects are cheesy, but what do you expect from a Freeform TV show? It's not a high budget movie. Overall, I have mid to high hopes that perhaps as the episodes move along, the acting becomes better and not as choppy or as stiff as it has been. I will keep watching and cringing (though not as much as I did in the first episode) and hoping that it will get better! :)

The movie that earned me an A+ on my College Paper (PREPARE FOR SPOILERS!)
19 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
It started with Madonna. I idolized her growing up. And when this movie came out and I was able to watch it for the first time, I became obsessed. It was an 80s cult classic and I loved it! I loved the music, the comedy, the style, the plot....And I would watch it over and over again when I could catch it on TV. Ffwd to college (Back in 2004- 2005), and I'm in a Gender and Power in Film Class. I picked this movie to do my final paper on, and I learned that it's a much deeper film than people give it credit for, which is why I gave it a 10 out of 10.

This movie is a prime example of a woman finding her own identity and being reborn. If you look closely enough at the plot, listen to the music, and watch the cinematography, you will notice how the director uses these elements to bring Roberta and Susan's worlds together. The "Shoop Shoop" song at the beginning of the movie, is perfect for the opening scenes at the beauty parlor where we begin--which is a place of transforming one's appearance in order to become beautiful for our man, who will (according to the song playing in the scene) "kiss me". This scene defines the theme of the entire movie: being remade or transformed. The question we should ask as we watch the movie, is "If you are transforming yourself on the outside, does it make you any different on the inside?" In Roberta's case, she has to lose herself on the inside in order to become someone different. No matter how she changes her outward appearance, she still feels bored and unloved.

When we meet Roberta, a meek and mild-mannered housewife who is bored and looking vicariously for excitement by reading the personal ads, she is at the beauty salon getting her hair done for her husband's party. She gets wrapped up in Susan's ads and wants to find out more about her. In the scenes with Roberta, we see that Seidelman chooses light and bright coloring to show what her world looks like (Pastel pinks are a big thing in her world). By the time Roberta enters Susan's world, "the Rabbit hole" (As Seidelman describes in the director commentary), she is surrounded by Susan's colors, which are darker hued greens, golds and blacks.

Roberta enters a "fantasy" world of sorts, as she develops amnesia from a fall, soon after following Susan to Battery Park. She "becomes" Susan, thanks to Dez's prompting, and therefore loses her housewife identity and takes on a different one. Because of this, Roberta is able to explore her inner being, challenge who she is on the outside, and be able to express a part of her personality she had never been able to express before.

By the time the movie ends, Roberta has regained her memory and finds her confidence completely. Screenwriter Barish explained that the confidence Roberta found is not one she is aware of, it just happens by following her intuition, or imagination. Roberta is led towards her confidence without having a conscious drive or aggression.

I could post my entire paper on here but it was over 1000 words! :) My goal for this review is to give you a brief overview of what I was able to interpret from this film to give you a better understanding of it for when you watch it. It's not just a fun romp through NYC, but a story about one woman's journey to find her true self and be happy with her own life.

The Judge (2014)
9/10
One of Downey Jr's Best Performances!
17 June 2015
I hardly ever write reviews about movies. Mainly, because I cannot be completely unbiased and because I tend to be very lengthy in my writings. This movie, I just finished watching, however, and I felt a burning need to express myself. I have loved Robert Downey Jr. as an actor for a very long time, and have also followed his career from young actor to drug addict to Ironman super-stardom. This movie made me love him ever more as an actor. He was raw, emotional and the best I've seen him in years. He moved me to tears at the end scene, and he didn't even have to speak.

The movie itself was beautifully done. The plot was pretty well- structured but it wasn't so much the plot which grasped me and held my attention, it was the relationship between the characters, especially the relationship between Hank and his father (Terrifically played by Robert Duvall). Most movies I've seen tend to just wash over the character development, but this movie hit upon all the important aspects of the characters background without going into too much detail. The growth and change of the relationship between father and son is evident throughout the movie, though not overplayed or over-dramatized. To me, it felt REAL. I cannot explain exactly what I mean, other than it didn't feel fake or forced, or hurried or rushed. It felt as if you were watching the lives of two people who were struggling to find some type of peace with one another: For Hank, to find that long-lost acceptance from his father, and for the Judge to acknowledge that his middle son actually was able to succeed and become something important, rather than a disappointment.

I would write more but my wrists are starting to hurt! :) Please, don't go by what professional critics say about movies..watch on your own and judge yourself. This is a moving story which has two very strong characters who find their way to accept each other for who they are, and with that, find some semblance of peace in the end.

Not As Bad As I Heard It Was
4 June 2014
I just watched this movie on HBO on-Demand this morning. I have to say, despite what I read about it, I thought it was a fun, entertaining romp! It is a comedy, after all, and if a comedy can make me laugh, then it's done its job. Was the plot line spectacular? No, but it's a sci-fi type of comedy and the plot line suited it (I read somewhere someone thought "Men In Black-ish" and I agree). Were the characters entertaining? Absolutely. I loved the banter between Bridges and Reynolds and thought the avatar aspects were also funny. Bacon does a believable job of playing a bad guy, yet again. Parker brings her own humor to the movie as well. I thought the effects were really cool, although at times I did think "wow, that's kind of cheesy"...but I think that's what made it work. If you're looking for something that is light-hearted and humorous, with a little fluff, check out R.I.P.D. If you're looking for something different...move on. :)
