Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Crouching Tiger meets Marvel
Below average martial art flick and falls short as a super hero film. Most of the movie isn't in English. First act was promising, 2nd act boring, last act saved the movie from an absolute fail. Character development was weak. No build up for the fight scenes, not enough conflict, dull storyline/protagonist/plot.
Can't really say much good about this film. Seemed to miss every mark. Had a few promising moments, not enough build up to any meaningful conflict, hard to stay invested when half the movie isn't in English. The fight scenes weren't great. Didn't quite feel like a marvel film and yet didn't quite deliver as a martial arts film. Everything that makes a superhero film or martial art film good was just missing here. Lots of ways this could have went better. Seemed rushed, bad writing and under budget perhaps.
Father of Invention (2010)
Worth watching but I wouldn't recommend it
The movie was so so, It falls short due to the fact that the movie is based on fictional product inventions and with that said, great inventions can't come out of this movie. Otherwise someone would patent the idea and make it an actual product right?
The inventions fall short for obvious reasons and that's expected. They handled it best they could by providing "fabrications" as apposed to actual inventions.
Lack of creativity in the invention ideas is where this movie falls short, as the inventions are driving this movie and steering it in directions that wasn't very enjoyable.
Worth watching but I wouldn't recommend it.
This Is the End (2013)
One of the best comedies ever! Harold & Kumar meets Zombieland
Very entertaining! This is one of the best comedies of all time with an epic plot! Think Harold & Kumar meets Zombieland It has all the major players of comedy movies within the last few years and they all play a crucial role turning this movie into comedy gold! The plot couldn't be more interesting, the actors play as themselves in an epic house party turned apocalyptic.
It starts off entertaining enough with a more main stream approach to the comedy, then turns into a more silly Harold & Kumar meets Zombieland comedy which probably isn't for everyone because it's so over the top. However, comedy knows no boundaries!
This movie pulls out all the stops, the comedic value of all the actors playing as themselves while making fun of each other couldn't be funnier and the clichés take it over the top, all that was missing was a cameo from Woody Harrelson eating some twinkies!
Don Jon (2013)
"the situations" untold story
A decent above average movie, not many boring parts and the movie was entertaining right up till the end.
The story is about the average guy who watches porn on a daily basis and how porn may or may not have effects on relationships, it's all done in a "jersey shore" manor and could resemble "the situations" untold story.
It gives you 2 sides of the story, those who struggle with porn thinking its a sin and those who just take it as a part of daily life.
The movie falls short due to the fact that it isn't as edgy as it could have been and wont be as mind blowing as you could imagine, this movie is 10 years behind in the times in form of acceptance of porn and for that I don't believe many people will be looking at this story in a new light, though I'm sure the average teenager and or parent out there will.
When all is said and done, porn is just another part of life and I believe the movie was trying to say just that.
Grudge Match (2013)
On paper it may have sounded good
A story about 2 washed up boxers getting back in the ring for one last fight. On paper, it may have sounded good and with the right comical aspect, it could have worked, but think about it for a second and you and you will see that this movie had a low rate of success right from the get go.
There's nothing funny or entertaining about watching 2 washed up boxers going at it. Oddly enough, DeNiro was better suited in this film then Stallone was and Stallone just makes the movie more depressing then what it should have been, I'm not sure there's a comedic bone in Stallone's body.
It's not really a comedy, tho what comedic value the movie did bring to the table, saved it from being an utter fail.
Her (2013)
Being unique is good enough
All in all, as a film, this movie was just above average, however the film is so unique and is such a fresh breath of air that it's so hard to give it an average rating!
(The plot: A guy has a relationship with his computer.)
Going into this movie, I had high expectations which never quite got fulfilled but truly didn't matter in the end because the film takes you places where no other film has gone and for that reason I'd give it an 8+.
Overall it has a somewhat independent low budget film maker feel to it. Give this script to practically any decent director out there and I think it would have turned out just as good, if not better and for that it does fall a bit short.
It's a somewhat unbelievable film in the way it was portrayed, but frankly, set the movie a side and the story itself is very believable and not so far off as you might think.
If you enjoy sci-fi movies, outside of the box thinking and tend to ponder things, then this film is most definitely for you! Great film, very memorable, one for the ages!
Frozen (2013)
Wanted to shut it off several times!
If your like me, then you can never truly be disappointment with an animation movie, they all tend to be good with the majority being some of the best films ever, however, this wasn't the case for frozen! This movie wasn't appealing at all, if you have even the slightest problems with watching movies that are musicals, then you should avoid this one, because it is one giant MUSICAL! Right from the very get go of the movie you're hammered with musical after musical, which is extremely annoying unless you happen to be a 9 year old girl. Your left hoping that the musicals will end, if it wasn't for my girlfriend insisting that we finish watching it, I would have shut it off less then half way through. 40% through the movie they finally give you a break and lay off the musicals and finally get into some real storyline.
The storyline itself was a drag, nothing exciting, around half way through the movie it becomes somewhat tolerable to watch.
In closing, the plot and animation lacked anything worthwhile, even if musicals isn't a problem for you, you will still be walking away from this film, with the sense that it wasn't that great, perhaps good, but definitely not great. A storyline based around 2 princess's might be better suited for a younger female audience, definitely not a good movie for the family.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
A near miss at being greatness
Undoubtedly one of the best films of the year, there's only so much you can do with a movie based on a stock market while trying to keep it interesting and with that in mind, it delivered quite well.
When comparing this movie to other great movies it may fall a bit short, but it's right up there with the best of em.
The film could of been cut and made a bit shorter as it tended to drag out a bit near the end, but the acting scenes were so great that you really wouldn't of wanted to do that.
The acting between Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill were top notch and the overall plot of the movie worked great with the scenes playing out well, not much more one can say, it set out to do a job and it accomplished it very well. Probably not a movie for everyone due to the fact that most people wouldn't find a movie about a stock market interesting but it should still appeal to the strict action sci-fi lovers out there.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)
Ben Stillers worst film yet!
I was expecting more, this movie was a huge let down and the ratings were clearly paid.
It starts off entertaining with Ben Stiller doing some online dating, which periodically comes back into the movie in forms of advertisements for an online dating site and serves little purpose to the overall movie in the end. Surprisingly, the online dating aspect scenes were some of the best parts of the film which served very little purpose to the overall plot of the film in the end, which was a shame because they could of made it work.
The movie struggles back and forth between the advertising and the actual plot and the viewer is left wondering where the film is going. The overall plot and scenes simply didn't work. If the whole online dating ads weren't enough, the movie also throws in these "day dreams" which Ben Stiller has, which again serves no purpose to the plot and it keeps taking you in pointless directions.
Half way through the movie, it try's to recover from the advertising and day dreaming, and drops it all together and the it try's to recover but fails miserably.
The movie was trying to go in 2 separate directions and in the end it felt like you watched 2 unfinished movies.
