Wasp (2003)
Shouldn't have gotten the Oscar
I hated this movie, I saw it at sundance and was surprised on how stupid it was, the story is about this poor British women and her fatherless family and how she meets a old friend from high-school/college and decides to go out with him. wow that alone makes this story sad, then to make it better she goes dressed as a hooker and well what do you know she ends up being to poor to afford dinner for her kids and gets them a cola, wow. Then at the end she starts to have sex with this guy as the kids are watching. What kind of mother is this? I mean I didn't buy this actor at all I found it stupid just plain stupid I've seen better work out of student work. Then there was a wasp that the baby son eats, this wasp is a CGI Flat load of garbage i didn't buy that the thing was real and it pulled me out of the all ready sad movie. Aside from the story, poor CGI, and cheap feel of the movie I'm sure there must have been some gem in there.
Everything's Gone Green (2005)
Great Short.
I went to the sundance film festival and saw the shorts program there, of the movies shown there Everythings gone Green was the best out of them. Better then Wasp with its crappy CGI wasp and all, and yet wasp won a academy award. Anyway they shot this movie on super 35mm something uncommon seeing that everyone else shot on 16mm or HD or in one case VHS. The shot style was amazing I found that the DP had a great style that confided emotion and impressed me to no end. Also I would like to comment that this movie looked professional there were no color balance issues and there were no over or under exposer. That really set it apart from the other movies the other movies often would put that aside and as a result that alone would set this movie apart from the others. The story was well placed and was very interesting I enjoyed it the most out of the entire shorts program at sundance
A Day Without a Mexican (2004)
Bad just Bad
This movie was awful, I cant describe how bad it was, looks like some student film lighting was only so-so bad movie bad story bad acting I hated it. There are sometimes jokes that just are not funny, like how people are always eating burritos. And there is some connection to Area 51. WHY just WHY movies like this make me wonder how DV movies make it, that and bad green screening burned my soul. I think that the director lacks the basic understanding of how to use music in a movie, he always has things in Spanish. Also the large about of "" Video Effects only shows this films lack of creative vision and lack of technical vision. Other then that the story with idea of all the Mexicans just disappearing from California makes a poor poor idea for a movie. Also the random transition to news casts and random PAUSE and written random stupid Latino facts. Horable just horrible they tryed for a satire but instead they came out with crap.
