Sound of Metal (2019)
Just incredible!!
The best movies show us the perspective of others and make us truly understand what it's like. This movie exudes with that idea, and excels at it. The sound design is phenomenal, really giving you a feeling of being a part of the main characters story. I was riveted the whole time intently watching amazed by scenes and brought to tears at times.
If I have one criticism, it's that somehow even though months went by his hairstyle never changed. It's like his hair never grew out. I feel like the passing of time and the change in his appearance would have added even more to the changes that are going on within the character. It kept drawing me out of it thinking "Well what, has it just been a couple of weeks? I don't think I could imagine anyone learning sign language that quickly...."
The writing was superb, the acting top notch, and overall technical ingenuity, especially sound wise, delivered such a amazing experience beyond all expectations!
Crank: High Voltage (2009)
Not as good as the first but...
I have an idea for number three! I know it's been a while he needs a bit older but how about social media likes will fuel him!!?? 😜😁🤣
10 Years (2011)
What do you expect with a cast this good?
A really great romantic comedy type movie. Made me think of The Big Chill. All the stories really paid off nicely. The cast was fantastic honestly everybody was just at their top which I have to say must have to do with a good director. How I never heard of this movie until 2021 I'm amazed. I'd give it a 10 but I reserved that for movies that I feel will live on in infamy.
Thunder Force (2021)
Decent but problems exist
I really feel like Melissa McCarthy gave a great performance in this for what she was doing and Olivia was great. Even the supporting actors did a fantastic job for what they were doing. But the whole superhero mechanic doesn't quite work right they make mistakes that are blatantly wrong based on many other movies/shows. Way too many really old references that really aren't going to be appreciated by anybody under the age of 40 to 45.
I don't want to ruin the movie but when I got to the end it was just silly, the way things played out made no sense. Anyone with half a brain would do things differently, and it just feels like yet another cheap effort to add weight to what is transpiring. This is going to hold this one back and get a lot of bad reviews because a lot of people aren't going to understand the jokes that are being made.
Howeverr, I hope they give us another go and take some of the criticism and make a better sequel!
In the end though I would say give this a watch. You will know within 15 to 20 minutes is you want to continue. I did find it entertaining to a degree 😃
Seven Stages to Achieve Eternal Bliss by Passing Through the Gateway Chosen by the Holy Storsh (2018)
Brilliantly absurd and well executed!
I was really impressed with the fact that this just goes where it wants to and explores a hilarious type of absurdity. Maybe a comparable type of humor might be Eric Andre.
Right up my alley! Kate micucci was fantastic, Dan Harmon as the detective was just cracking me up. it's nice to see something so different and interesting!
Good Boys (2019)
Was up for this, but disappointed.
Saw a lot of press for this on YouTube before the release of the movie. I have the impression that Seth Rogen was a writer on it but I don't see his name except as a producer. I had a good group of producers by the looks of it but honestly after about 20 minutes I turned it off. It just felt like cheap jokes. Sort of trying to get the same sort of reaction as sausage party or something. I guess this type of comedy I just want to see adults do, not 12 year olds. maybe I'll go back to it at some point and give it another go but it just fell flat for me. Gave it a 5 out of 10 for the attempt.
Rhythm + Flow (2019)
Great but they need a judge replacement
I really like the show, the progression of the different contestants was interesting and often very emotional and true to them. I think Chance and TI were great, but Cardi comes across to me as just speaking anything that comes out of her brain without any thought whatsoever. 'De do de de de de blabattaaas blat I like ur song. I wants ta had sex to dat.' Totally nonsensical, I understand maybe she's speaking a vernacular that maybe popular with the youth of today but honestly to everybody else she comes across as a complete moron. put someone up there that can actually add to the conversation about the talent of the people and not just a bunch of random things that really mean nothing to anyone. People clap on clap on clap but she said nothing time and time again. The input from TI and Chance was.trult constructive though. Good show overall.
