Great premise but something feels off
6 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Another solid episode overall in the series coupled with one of the worst cold opens they have done.to date and some really surprisingly corny jokes that make it feel more like an episode of solar opposites but generally the episode was very entertaining however the constant fourth wall breaks and references to the decline in quality really take away from the overall enjoyment we get it it's hard to make a show feel as original in the sixth season as it was in the first it doesn't mean you have to bring it up every episode it just shoots the episode in the foot right from the gecko. Loved the vat of sun a great way to end the episode.

Ricky Gervais: SuperNature (2022 TV Special)
8/10
Not his best work but perfectly solid
26 May 2022
It's not bad at all, plenty of good bits throughout the hour some parts of it felt very much like the ground had already been covered and he wasn't really bringing anything new to the topic. I felt the long speech about free speech in comedy and virtue signalling particularly was not very fun he's right but doesn't mean it's a good 10 minute opener to your special. It set kind of a strange tone for the rest of the hour like he was expecting everyone to be shocked by everything he says dude you've been doing this for two decades it's not a shock that you're going to say offensive things you don't believe I think he should of just got on with his material rather than making such a mountain about mentioning any "taboo" topics 95% of people including those in the group's he touched upon will understand it's comedy so it just felt unnecessary. Last point I've seen dozens of articles about his comments on trans people but not one on jokes about beating up a disabled toddler so it really does just prove his point that they really only care about the most politically topical disenfranchised group and not "offensive" comedy as a whole. But yeah not the best stand up special however very funny in parts and definitely worth watching.

Dexter: New Blood (2021–2022)
5/10
More than solid continuation of a great show
13 December 2021
The amount of murder porn fanatics looking for a modern mirroring of the exact same show that ran for 8 seasons is insane no it's not the same show the tone style and pacing reflect the changes Dexter has gone through in the past decade while maintaining a strong connection with the character development and rules set from the previous show the characters are for the most part great grounded and interesting in a very aesthetically pleasing setting. It's a great show if you were expecting a modern mirroring of Dexter with a new kill every week as he rehashes the same closed monolgues about his difficult relationships with people close to him and the juxtaposition of his twisted morality go back to 2005 this is Dexter for the modern era.

The Walking Dead (2010–2022)

Against all odds they brought it back
1 December 2021
I initially stopped watching the walking dead halfway through the fifth season the quality was beginning to dip but my main reason was not being committed to waiting a week for a 45 minute episode cut into 4 twelve minute segments fast forward 5 years they're on season 11 and I decide to binge watch the rest. It god bad real bad seasons 8 & 9 are pretty much unrecognisable from the previous show and I was sure this would be the eventual demise 10 was pretty good definitely made improvements but my word I never saw it coming Season 11 is fantastic easily rivals season 1 as the best they've done it is simply fantastic the writing cinematography pacing all have been overhauled and the results are exactly what fans of this show always knew it could be interesting provoking grounded stories in an ungrounded world my word if you gave up on this it's worth sticking with it it all comes back around eventually.

Narcos: Mexico: Life in Wartime (2021)
Season 3, Episode 10
5/10
Disappointing end to a pretty good season
12 November 2021
Every single story this season had an unsatisfying ending I understand they seem to be trying to focus on truth rather than their usual suspenseful dramatisations but at a certain point you have to take into account what made this show so popular in the first place. If you know anything about the story of chapo and what happened in Mexico after Amado died then you will be pretty shocked they decided to cut this season how they did leaving so much out for the sake of a 4 hour message about the inadequacy in Mexico's law enforcement. They've left enough material for literally 5/6 more seasons at this pace. I love Narcos but this whole season was much ado about nothing.

Knives Out (2019)

Underwhelming whodunnit
6 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I love a well setup whodunnit where breadcrumbs and misdirections are offered to the audience with varying levels of significance throughout the film leading up to an intelligent thought out reveal of the overall arc. This was the exact opposite of that but I'll give it up because they did get me I've never seen a film or a tv show where the person who did the crime is the most obvious person throughout with all of the blatant evidence pointing to them so much so that you think it couldn't be possibly be them because that's too obvious an interesting move but when you take a step back it really is just an awful premise where the person most likely to have committed the crime who was heard arguing with the victim that night and the person who all the circumstantial evidence pointed to actually did do it. I like a good mystery and it certainly is a good one how this ever got made in its current form (great cast great title)

Movie 43 (2013)
1/10
Quite literally the worst film I've ever seen
13 October 2021
This films haunted me for 8 years I think about it more than most and I suppose some would say that makes it impactful and I had a response and that's the point of art I think it's so unbelievably bad and the cast is so exceptionally good that the fact this went from script to all of those high profile actors accepting presumably most having read it themselves and all through production nobody stopped and said hey this is terrible in every single way and should never exist and then they would burn down the studio preventing this film from ever being made. When will this film leave me be.

We don't always get to choose the perfect moment
7 October 2021
Whether this is the end of archer for good or just the start of something new I will always be grateful for the time and dedication Jessica Walter all of the cast the writers producers and everyone involved in the production of this show has put into it countless hours to really make something special and I will be satisfied with the outcome regardless. Thank you.

Charming and funny throughout
6 August 2021
The most I've ever enjoyed a DC film entertaining throughout picking up the horrendous pieces of the first one the sequel is actually hilarious in parts with almost no cringe humour really surprising to see a script of this caliber not be grinded down in the production the arcs are heartwarming and well rounded and it is genuinely and surprisingly a very good film.

WandaVision (2021)
4/10
Not good, not terrible... but kinda terrible
9 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Yes I've seen all of it, still think it's one of the worst things marvel has done in recent years. The writing is cringey characters even worse improved marginally in the second to last episode before returning to the same cheap homages and ripoffs of other marvel shows or just any tv show or film really. The entire show is about Wanda coming to terms with her grief after the loss of vision she kidnaps almost 4000 people in torturous conditions but the audience is supposed to feel compassion for her because she gave up her imaginary family (another evil atrocity committed by Wanda) just really strange not funny at all or particularly entertaining. Perhaps they wrote something good before it was stripped back and changed for a Disney plus audience as some of the premises within the show are very interesting and original however not nearly enough to carry the show through 9 episodes
