Shōgun (2024)

A Historically Captivating Masterpiece
29 February 2024
I am very skeptical about eastern films but this principle is soon to be altered after seeing Shogun. I believe this latest historically inspired genre brings more elating and electrifying feelings behind the screens. It starts by enjoying the captivating sound mix and background score which together ripples the film's frequency to scintilate a purposeful masterpiece. The historical essence portrayed perfectly by precise costumes and well prepared landscapes drive the desire to travel back in time. Perphaps it is the motionary Osaka that wakes the joy of wanting to belong in the past. I see this film to be well written, acted and produced to meet the needs of historical drama lovers just like myself, and I can boldly put on record here that this is the best Japanese themed movie ever made on screen. There is no hiding the fact that Shogun is a must watch piece if you call yourself a movie lover!

Emotional than the Evil Reckoning
21 May 2023
I've heard a lot about the game to be honest, from family features and fantasy sites. But frankly speaking, my expectations were mixed, I wanted to see more of the dark side of the so called D&D theme but it panned out that the director had different ideas for us. And the pathway was greater to some extent. Because if you don't get lemonade make sure you do get the best from what you've got. And that is exactly why I'm praising the directorial aspect of the film. Character wise, the acting performance from Chris was on point. He gave us a great symbolism of what a good man is and how plans don't define who we are meant to be. It was really exciting to watch his performance, and I felt in love with him all the way through. In addition, I think I'm begining to admire Hugh Grant for his devilish character roles. He takes it to a different level and his supporting role in this one also contributed massively to the success of the film. I strongly urge fans of this genre to save money and get a copy, because it will be fun reliving it!

Exciting to see Nick Cage uncaged.
21 June 2022
I remember Nicolas Cage doing what he does best in Leaving Las Vegas. His slo-mo, drunk kind of moves in acting is the real super power here. In this fantastic movie, the actor brought to live his real talent and kept real drama lovers captivated by his images on screen. Cage's performance in this one particular, is a reminder of the legendary times of some of his past acclaimed motions. I caught glimpses of his old films blended to showcase achievements across times, indeed his acting was exceptional and I really enjoyed it. Also, one of the important aspects of the film was the supporting role of Pedro Pascal. He spiced the movie with his akin performance, the twoness in collaboration inflated the excitement even more as the supporter moved on rythm with Cage. Over here over there all the time through out the film it was the performance of Pedro Pascal that kept the ball rolling. I think it is time for movie lovers to find joy from real life drama acting like these filmsrather than been manipulated with box office returns which continues to make our stars with talent chasing freak super hero roles.

Dune (2021)
8/10
Real and full of suspense
31 October 2021
You can talk about Star Wars, you can talk about any other epic story but Dune has no competitor.

This film was great in all dimensions of film making. I couldnt take my eyes off for just a second. There were occassions when I felt the motions were real. That beckons great direction at work. The background tracks were suspenseful. It raises the desire to predict the next scene. This makes the audience to feel uneasy in their seats. Also, I will use flamboyance to qualify the exceptional wardrobe collection. The designs and patterns depicted affluence as vis-a-vis exploits of the Hakonnens and the Fremans.

In sum, Dune is the best movie Ive watched post COVID-19. However, the stain in the linen is that, fans have to wait for two years for the next part of one the greatest films ever made.

Little Women (2019)
10/10
Sentimental Moving and Emotionally the Best
4 May 2020
Little Women(2019) is in fact the best ever drama adapted screenplay I have seen in the last decade. The film is the seventh adaptation of the same novel published in the 1880's. This version makes exceptional claim as the best ever adaption because of the star cast. The inclusion of Saoirse Ronan's talent and the emotional countenace of Elisa Scanlen strongly affirms that claim. Emma Watson and Florence Pugh all stars. These actresses are natrually gifted. The film is centered on Jo March, a talented and passionate writer played by Saoirse Ronan. She is the eldest of four beautiful talented interdependent sisters. The film is directed by Greta Gerwig, her understanding of the original story takes this version to an extra mile.

The plot of the film follows Jo March a talented writer who lives with her mother Marmee played by Laura Dern and her three other Sisters; Meg March played by Emma Watson, Amy March played by Florence Pugh and Beth March played by Elisa Scanlen. They have lingering youthful memories that include flashbacks from each girl. Jo March's flashbacks reveal how she met Laurie, played by Timothee Chamalet, a boy from a wealthy neighboring house. Laurie became a family friend but with time he deeply fell in love with Jo March. However, Jo March rejects Lauries proposal by saying she is not ready to love and live with him at the expense of her writing. She sees marriage as an economic proposition. Left broken hearted, Laurie decides to live on but promised Jo March that he'll watch as she finds someone, love him and have babies with him. Will Jo March find somebody or return to Laurie? Little women is set during the dying embers of the American Civil War; giving the film's cultural elegance and affluence. This film is moving in every scene that passes by. The emotions were natural and eventually heightened by the passing away of Beth March. One cannot hold tears at this point. In fact I was broken, touched and all tears from that scene. The background score made the emotions real and electric throughout. How Elisa Scanlen played her role also made the emotions exceptional. She adapted the character superbly and delivered a five star performance. This is the best drama film ever to be on screens. Whenever I pull a pen and paper to compile a list of best films, Little Women (2019) will always be in the top three. I strongly and boldly recommend this film to all fans irrespective of one's favourite genre. Give this film a try and you'll never regret paying a dime.

The Gentlemen (2019)

Intelligent Clever and Objective
29 April 2020
The Gentlemen is the one of the few best crime comedy films ever to be released. This film is directed by Guy Ritchie and distributed by SFX films. The film stars renowed actors including Matthew McConaughey and Guy Ritchie himself. The film was produced with a budget of $22 million and has grossed $110 million at the box so far. The plot of the film follows Micheal Pearson played by Matthew McConaughey, a wealthy businessman who is been investigated by Big Dave, played by Guy Ritchie. Micheal Pearson is a marijuana kingpin who seeks to sell his business. Big Dave is an editor for the Daily print, a private investigation news outlet. The two clashed at a party but first time acquintance did not go well as Pearson refuses to shake hands with Big Dave. This gesture evoked the inqusitive spirit of Big Dave. He hires Fletcher, a private investigator to investigate Micheal Pearson's amicable relationship with Lord Pressfield, a royal duke with an addicted missing daughter. This brings Flecther in contact with Ray, Pearson's right-hand man. Fletcher's investigation reveals the dark side of marijauna business where vicious activities abound. The film is racially balanced, giving it a warm global reception. The involment of Chinese mafia and gangs excited me. What I witnessed from this film is that, the East sees the drug business as a family legacy while the Western world sees it a an individual pathway to success. Fletcher's performance is fantastic. He was able to carry his investigation in a friendly and cleverly tone. The amicable connection between him and Ray spinned the film to its critical acclaims. Both parties were intelligent and objective. I really liked the calmness and timely eruptions of Ray's mannerisms. I have a strong feeling that this film will go down as one of the best Guy Ritchie's moments. I can bet my last coin on this film to be on any list of best original screenplays. Tis' a must watch film, what are you waiting for?

Intelligent but weak script
21 April 2020
Spies in disguise is one of the most intelligent action packed animated films released in the last decade. The screenplay was written by Brad Copeland and directed by Troy Quane and Nick Bruno. The film stars Will Smith as the voice character of Lance Sterling a renowned spy in the American secret service. The antagonist in this film is Ben Mendelsohn starring in the role of Killian Robot-hand, who seeks revenge on the secret service. The film unfold the sequence of adventures that occurs as Lance Sterling races against time to stop Killian Robot-hand from eliminating all his fellow secret agents.

The plot of the film reveals a young talented scientist Walter Beckett played by Tom Holland, as he tries to invent non-violent gadgets to deal with the persuing, invading and capturing of criminals. He graduates MIT at the age of 15 and had his calling by working in the high profile American Secret Service. Lance Sterling is not a fan of this non-violent ways of dealing with criminals. This results in the firing of Walter from the service. However, the tables are turned when Lance Sterling seeks help from Walter as a result of been pursued by his own agency thanks to a Killian Robot-hand's framing. The scientific intelligence of the film reaches a climax when Lance Sterling tranforms into a pigeon after drinking a Genetic Modification concotion in Walter's house. Lance Sterling is now a sadly, colorful, cute and twittering pigieon. Lance Sterling's does not like his new form but he must learn to be a pigieon in order to pursue Killian Robot-hand and bring him to justice.

The film is set in different countries ranging from the cold mountains in Japan to the admirable city of Venice. This gives the film an international touch. The screenplay is as intelligent as the directing which really exemplifies two brains at work. The video effects in this film is exceptional, the animation is excellent especially the designing of cities. Another laudable aspect of the film is the soundtrack which gives different feelings from emotions to actions. However, I was not impressed with the dialogue and script of the film. Especially the partnership of Walter Beckett and Lance Sterling hangs on weak script. I remember Lance Sterling telling Walter Beckett how he couldn't have carried the mission without his help. But this only came after he was transformed back to human. Meanwhile he didnt like his pigeon form all along. And thus the film fails to answer the simple question that continues to bother me, Was Lance Sterling a better spy as a pigeon or as a human?

In all Spies in disguise is a very intelligent film and simply appealing to audience. I expected much from the film but what I saw is good enough to compel me to urge all fans especially those of animated motions to give this film a try. It has all the giggles and laughter from start to end.

Emotional and sentimentally strong
24 March 2020
Sonic the hedgehog is one of the best video game adaptations starting this decade. The film stars Ben Schwartz as the voice and main character in the film. He is hunted on Earth by Dr. Robotnik a technology and robotic freak played by Jim Carrey, as he tries to capture, assess and terminate Sonic. The plot follows Sonic a blue hedgehog with a super fast gifted speed. His speed was given for one reason to run. Running from enemies and hunters with the aim of capturing him and knowing the source of his power or just because of mere jealousy. He once evaded capture through a magic time travel coin. Sonic finds himself on Earth a place called Green Hills where he blends in but in shadows. Loneliness is killing this colourful, adorable and funny alien hedgehog. However, his time on Earth is shortened when a freak robotic scientist Dr Robotnic, is hired by the United State government to investigate a high grade power cut. Sonic needs to do what he does best, to run and escape to a different world. The series of his escape crossed him with the path of a local police officer Tom played by James Marsden, whom Sonic admires. The officer helps Sonic, and the two are hunted by Dr. Robotnic. Would Sonic accept his loneliness life on Earth and escape this time or this is just an opportunity for him to reveal himself to the people of Green Hill? The film is set in a typical green vegetation rural area which gives it a sense of reality from the video game. The video effects are electric and a pulse heater. This makes the film awesome and speedful. One aspect worth praising is the theme song. Which makes the film rhythmic and enjoyable. The performance from Jim Carrey derserves laudable praises. He was able to milk the best of comedies for his character. At a point in time his role stole the show and took the film to a different unexpecting level. In all, Sonic the Hedgehog was emotional, simple and colourfully brilliant. I strongly urge fans from the 90's to stream and enjoy the best video game character of our time.

Parasite (2019)
9/10
Intelligent and Extraordinary
27 February 2020
Parasite will go down in history as one of the best comedy and international films of the century. The film stars Korean celebrated actor Song Kang-ho as Kim-taek the head of a poor deprived Korean family living in a basement; with his wife and two children. The film tells the story of a poor family living in a basement without access to basic utilities. The head of the family is Mr Kim. He wants the best for the family. But he cant afford the cost of university education for his intelligent son, Kevin and brilliant daughter, Jessica. Min is a friend of Kevin. He also wants the best for his friend. He recommended Kevin to take his place as a tutor. Kevin became the personal tutor of Da-hye, the daughter of a wealthy businessman. Kevin was able to grab this life changing opportunity. First he brought in Jessica as an art teacher. The two worked intelligently and perfectly by bringing in their dad and mum as driver and househelp respectively. But nothing is so perfect in this world. What would happen it comes to knowledge that they are related as family? The film is set in suburbs and high class residential area in a typical Korean city. This gives it the affluence versus poverty touch that underlines the theme of the film. The script was suspenseful and full of excitement. The performance of Song Kang-Ho was spectucular. He blended emotions with intelligence. Directing wise, individual performances raised the bar.Everyone knew what they were doing and delivered with aplomb. The quality of the film's video editing gave it a polishing and glossing visual impressions. However, I was not impressed with the films dialogue. It did less than enough to convey the theme of the film to its audience. Paraite is going to be a film you would not quit watching. It is emotional and funny. No matter how hard life maybe there will always be a time to laugh. And if you want to laugh very well, then I recommend this film for you.

Knives Out (2019)
7/10
Far too Straight foward Mystery
20 February 2020
Knives Out is an exciting English family mystery film realesed in 2019. The film's cast include the prominent talented actor Daniel Craig who stars as detective Benoit Blanc. And John Evans as Ransom, the black sheep of a wealthy, self centered, typical American family. The film depicts a inward bitterness and buried differences among family members but who outwardly try to impress the head of their family head Harlan Thrombey, a respectable novelist and publisher. Martha, an immigrant, is a house maid and a help to this family head, who loves her more than he loves his own blood. But to be honest, the reason for such love to me was as mystery as the film itself. On the night of his 85th birthday, Martha mistakenly gave a wrong dose of medication to him. This triggered the creative, artistic brain of the novelist. He came up with a well worked perfect plan to save his help and friend from a likely murder charge and potential jail. But nothing is too perfect in this world. Who can connect the dots and literally find the tiny hole within this well worked perfect plan? Would it be detective Benoit Blanc? The film is set in a morden day American society where there is pride in been a succesfull enterprenuer. The inclusion of Martha's origin and eventual procedings shows how humility and hardworking pays, irrespective of who you are. A perfection of the film's storyline reveals creativity and genius in screenplay; though with most of the scenes been straight forward, with self revealing mysteries. Martha's performance was key to the success of the film, by her ability to match background or origin with character. I strongly attest that this film would merit the extoils of fanatics for its lively entertaining mystery. And it is worth watching especially in this era of our time in which everything happening is of nothing but mystery.

Lacks the drive to portray the ugly side of sexual harassment
17 February 2020
The visual media is the competitive industry on earth. To be a face on a prominient network such as Fox News requires something above the ordinary. However, this is not the case of that network. The film shows how power and authority can shape one's personality, views and even appearance. Roger Ailes, head of the network wants something more than what his female workers bring on board this creates that fierce competition. However, the film did not impress by not showing how fiercely the competition was. How do you manage this competition? Well Roger is smart, loyalty is all he needs and his ability to play that cat and mouse game on his victims was direct, bold and manipulative, due to great script and directing. Surely, his cup was full as Carlson, a fired employee sues him for harassment. As ready stated, the wind of power and authority kept victims including Kelly and the young ambitious Kayla in their shell, with all three actresses performance being fantastic. Cats are let out of the bag and Roger sees the end of his once idolized firm within the industry becoming a syndicate of sexual harassment. If you are oppressed injusticely for being who you are, then I recommend this film to you and why you need to take action; because you maybe quite for some reasons but change starts from you!

Uncut Gems (2019)

Masterclass with artisan power
15 February 2020
Begins with Howard making every move to repay his debt. Most of his walkings and roamings take place in the central business district. This shows a busy entreprenuer in a busy enviromment justicely done by an eye catching setting. Time is not on his side but He manages to appeal to all figures in his life:from family to side girl and from job to hobby-betting. He needs to make a quick move like KG who also wants this spirited gem of Howard. A consensus can be reached if Howard makes life easy for his debtors as well as KG. But the performance of the debtors was worrying for fanatics of hardship hustling films. Their oppression and pressure was meaningless at time and did not deliver and spice into such great perfomance of Sandler. In the end they took his life and everything went dark. This film must be one of the best hustle films of the decade and I recommend to everyone out there who wants to combine love with hustle.

Laps of happiness but sorro-awful at the end
11 February 2020
Shellby is leading the Le Mans where he is focused, determined and one could easily hear his heartbeat and hot breath in a fading raving engine sound mastered by a genius sound editing. The future is not too bright for Miles Ford and Ferrari but unlike Miles he does not hold the cards in life.. When people in high places determine people's fate, trusting a friend who is controlled by such is not that easy. But the Miles-Shellby bond is a prime example of great casting. In the end, your fate is determined by people in suits; mirroring why unchecked heights of inequality can determine people's fate in our this era. The tragedy of Miles losing his life was not the awful end to such a great picture but how weak dialogue and script diluted an already bubbling 120mins of great acting and powerful zoom-ins.

Once a celebrated celebrity, DiCaprio, living next door to a glooming film diector but is not recognize. He needs a friend, brother and admirer to direct his steps. A great production and casting brings Brad Pitt to perform this role which he did with aplomb. Through a precise flashback and reflective timeline, he has his own past. Ideologies, views and beliefs are objective but when portrayed in a manner such as this one, it unbalances a third person. The two popes is one of those films where you feel the energy right within your inner self. Great dialogue with stunning performance that fascinate and elevate the desire to become a Catholic. Acting is an art but Hopkins and Pryce wielded it like skill. Zoom in; and this is one of the best photographic work done.

Finaltastic Package
25 December 2019
For almost a decade now, a trademark by this IP Man series has been its scintillating stunt coordination. Indeed, the energy flow between heroes and villians is a bedrock for capturing cognitive positive reviews over the years; for the foregoing statement, much can be said about this series. IP Man's character portrayed by Donnie Yen provides a natural flow of energy that takes viewers mind backwards to the reality of time concerning the real legend. Bringing on board the performance of Scott Adkins in this films wows the audience with his experience in these genres; together, the duo made directing appreciative and arguably faultless-the impact of experience. Its Production Design is also a good testimony of how the series had fared over the years. A Great setting vividly combining reality and fiction for a demanding crowd.

Jojo has to enjoy the life every normal kid does. However, he needs to control the options. With the tales of war looming, such is not a good time to control options. Jojo is expected to sing the song of the day. Loyalty to the Fuhrer means everything. His word is upside down. Creativity in the script introduces a bright spot into Jojo's life. He followed this light. By the time he reaches it, he begun to know that loyalty without love is fire without flame. Waititi (T) directs like he acts. Wherever you have Wilson (R) you have fun. Jojo Rabbit is the motion for our emotions.

dimensional,expounding and full-on feminine wit
13 September 2019
'Hustlers' depicts and displays a performance worth leaning that females can be true hustlers. The casting of Wu took the wit to another level. She is only working to take care of her grandma.Things get bad;but a true hustler do not give up easily like that-she rides the tide! And such instances are full in this Scafaria directored film.Cinematography was great. One could get clear motions especially in the stripper-action scenes. Production design was not bad; but true hustlers dont strip-tease in such luxury, apparently.Hustlers with stripper's costume, so nice that it gives jaw drop. But Scafaria has a case, after all, it's based on a true story; and every story has a low and a high! Maybe the timeline was at their(hustlers) high. Nice ending to the film, one that shows that we have friends and "friends"

Unleashing The Triggerless Feminism Power
27 June 2019
Anna could be a box office fiasco yet I was moved by the films adapted screenplay. The title role suggests a female lead character, obviously and the way this film organized and unleashed the female power was exceptional. Unlike its simillar genres, this title didnt hundred percent based on any external element to trigger the power of feminism. And it is the first female lead film to satisfy that my appetite, over the past years. Do we have to wait for a female to be raped or maltreated, et al before we can feel the inner power of feminism? No! Great movie to write less!
