Distant Constellation (2017)
A very ambitious project.
This is Shevaun Mizrahi's first feature film and it very well holds its own as a very interesting documentary. It is very well shot and edited. Although the main characters of the movie are elderly people and they do have a very slow approach at telling their stories, they have very amusing amusing personalities and a great sense of humor. The movie never lets you get bored of its characters as it cuts always at the right moment. It does get slow at some times but it goes very well with the idea of the film. The distortion of time , the inhabitants state of mind and the cold weather seems like a whole new world by itself. Add to that the comparison with the construction site and the young workers makes it so touchable and acceptable. An amazing work of art!
G.J. Ramstedtin maailma (2018)
Beautifully shot but...
This film has outstanding landscape cinematography and its narrative seems captivating the first few minutes. After a little while though, the movie becomes quite slow and we start to lose interest and the ability to focus on it's topic. It shows powerful contrast through its images and it touches some interesting topics through its narration, but ultimately manages to confuse its viewer instead of having him come out of the theater wiser and more well-informed.
Druga strana svega (2017)
It is needed as a different look...
The film it's a refreshing look and an insight to the anti-regime movement in the 90s. Although some of the facts were biased, as the movies protagonist was an activist against the regime it still stumbles on some very good points. Srbijanka Trajlic is the protagonist in the movie and she is offered as a very interesting character, a "defeated bourgeois" she calls herself. Let alone the political aspect of the movie, that shows us the other side of the political situation in Yugoslavia, the movie has various topics buried underneath, that are touched in very subtle ways. "The Other Side of Everything" is a refreshing look to anyone interested in the end of the Yugoslavian regime. Especially for youngsters in the Balkans, wanting to see a different approach to this topic.
