The Irregulars (2021)
It's good fanfic.
I don't know why people are giving this series a negative review, just because Holmes lacks in action and the story center on the kids. I mean, the story basically telling about Baker Street Irregulars, and what do you guys expect from an adaptation that heavy with supernatural thingy?
I haven't read the comics, but I believe this series is good fanfiction and fun to watch. If you want an actual Holmes adaptation, this is not it, and don't blame the series because you didn't get what you expect.
North & South (2004)
totally love it!!!
So, this is my first favorite adaptation from English novel, besides those wrote by Jane Austen. Haven't read the book though, maybe later.
At first, I only expect another romance in British old time, you know, man with gold, stubborn woman (P&P alert), like what we usually find in Austen's version.
But North & South are so much different. Well, to be fair it did remind me of Pride and Prejudice, A LOT. But there's also other story beside the romance. Master and union, it's deep, eternal problem, like Democratic and Republican in cotton industry.
Another plus for Gaskell, I think, when we can truly see mother of the hero. I mean, I keep comparing to Austen, we never see Mr Darcy's mother or even when we see Edward's mom, she immediately becomes enemy, while Mrs Thornton, although she loathe Margaret, she keep her promise to Mrs Hale.
I never see other film or series from both of the main character, so I can't really tell how good they're acting in this series. But clearly, me and many other LOVE Richard Armitage, hope there'll be more of him in this kind of series or in Austen's world. I know Brendan Coyle from Downton Abbey, good job Mr Bates, as always. Anna Martin from Death Comes to Pemberley, love her there, but in N&S I caught her eye moved in deathbed scene, so...
AND my favorite scene: OF COURSE IT'S GONNA BE THE ONE IN RAILWAY STATION.
FYI, my most favorite scene in Pride and Prejudice, and the one which make me fall in love with Austen's story is in 2005 film, when "Macfadyen" apologize to Elizabeth for wasting her time after the rejection (Colin Firth never be my favorite Mr Darcy, sorry).
After watched N&S and found that RAILWAY STATION's scene, when JOHN LOOKING AT MARGARET SO LOVINGLY, AND LATER HELD HER HAND, OH MY GOD!! <3<3
So, if you're like me, who still enjoy romance-heart melting-story. N&S totally recommended.
Castle: Hong Kong Hustle (2015)
hope there'll be season 8
another great episode from Castle. After a little-hard-to-believe closure for 3XK, things finally back to normal in precinct.
Actually, I'm hoping we could see more of Linda Park, it's nice to see new ally for a change. The face of Ryan and Espo when their gun stolen by Zhang is classic Castle, and the "threesome" joke just epic!
Really, the rumour about the show being cancelled and no season 8 for Castle is making me nervous. This show still got potential, I mean, don't leave me hanging with Castle's whereabouts when he missing for 2 months. And Espo's relationship with Lanie also still on and off.
PS: Is it just me, or there is no new novel from Castle since forever
Austenland (2013)
good one
I don't understand why this movie got negative review. As loose adaptation, Austenland still fun to watch, and for me, this movie even better than Lost in Austen (I mean, "separating Liz from Darcy?" even for the main character, that's impossible to accept).
Jane Hayes character is a realistic one for me. She realize no more addiction to Darcy when she found out about Martin (and the class of package, how the clueless Charming get special treatment "just" because she has money) and Jane still hard to accept when Nobley came to her apartment, although as every romantic movie, of course happy ending on the line.
Jennifer Coolidge, amusing as always, and JJ Feild just perfect, he has men in Austen's material, I also love him in Northanger Abbey.
Overall it's a good movie, I haven't read the book (and didn't plan to), but as movie, I totally enjoy Austenland.
Meitantei Conan: Ijigen no sunaipâ (2014)
the worst Detective Conan movie ever
For me it's the worst Detective Conan movie ever, and to think the movie was made as 20th years celebration of this character. And why the teaser said that Akai was the sniper's target, when the plot totally different. It's lack of deduction and culprits to analyze, since from the beginning there was only one main suspect and later his ally, nothing mysterious at all. Too much FBI (maybe because the story point was SEAL army), they got all the information needed from their headquarters, and like I said before, seems nothing left for Conan to analyze. If you watch the second Detective Conan movie, that also involved shooting, "The Fourteenth Target", it's a much better one.
