The A-Team (2010)
Easily one of the best reboots ever!
As a fan of the original this movie is everything I could've wanted and more. Decent story, great action and phenomenal cast! Particularly Liam Neeson as Hannibal who not only made the role his own but far surpassed George Peppard imo.
As always it's not perfect. I thought B. A. becoming a pacifist was dumb and while I liked Face making the plan at the end I would have much preferred if it had be Hannibal.
Overall though this movie is fun, ridiculous, action packed, and imo possibly the best reboot ever!
NCIS: Hawai'i: Pilot (2021)
A great start!
So as a huge NCIS fan I was super hesitant about this new one (hence why I'm only now watching), but I gotta admit this was a very good pilot! The storyline was decent, but what made it was the well balanced set up of a group interesting and diverse main characters! I'm definitely looking forward to catching up!
Masters of the Universe (1987)
Somehow it works and is so so fun!
I've seen this 100s, maybe 1000s, of times and consider it one of my comfort movies. Considering it's literally based off toys (not the cartoon which is why there's no Prince Adam) it should be terrible but imo it works well! The action is pretty great and very 80s, Dolph Lundgren is good, Man-At-Arms is literal perfection, Teela is decent, and surprising the 2 main human characters aren't to annoying. All in all a film that is just so so fun!
Kung Fu: Pilot (2021)
Very good, although predictable, pilot!
As a fan of the original my expectations were extremely low, but this was good pilot. I thought the fight scenes were well choreographed, the acting of the mains was good, and the storyline was good enough.
Negatives were that it was extremely predictable and even cliche in parts (obvious love triangle, overbearing chinese family, etc.). Also the acting did fall flat a few times, particularly with the supporting characters.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Enjoyable with a surprising good message, but kind of a mess
This movie was not what I was expecting in the slightest. The first half or so is a pretty gripping drama of a battered wife, it then kinda goes off the rails into a strange monster movie where said battered wife becomes basically a superhero who randomly knows karate. In the end it was enjoyable and had a great message of mom power, but definitely could have been better.
Star Trek: Discovery: Saints of Imperfection (2019)
Great episode! Ignore the bad reviews!
This was a really great episode! Some great Michael/Tilly friendship moments, interesting S31 stuff, and of course more Spock mentions (a little to much)
I knew that Doc Hugh would return and was worried if his resurrection would make sense. I thought it was quite well done as it was written so it fit with what we know about the mycelial network.
I will say many of the negative
reviews are about how the mycelial network makes no sense according to real world science. I can't help but wonder if they feel that way about other inaccurate science trek stuff like warp drives, time travel, and of course the ever popular Q continuum (all powerful beings whose powers definitely don't make sense scientifically). No? Um... interesting!
Law & Order: UK: Sacrifice (2009)
Good until the end...then great!
What starts as a case (which was already above average due to Ronnie being hilarious) of organ theft takes a turn when the best friend of George Castle is arrested for grave injury. When the victim dies, George himself chooses to defend his friend (who he owes his entire career to); what ensues is friend (Steel) against friend (Castle) for the life of a friend. With no idea who would win (and not knowing who I want to) I was truly on the edge of my seat.
Law & Order: UK: Unsafe (2009)
Tremendously good, except for the ending
This really is a tremendously good episode due partially by the good writing but maybe even more so because of the great performances of both Ben Daniels (Steel) and Iain Glen (Slade).
My complaint is in the ending. It felt rushed and anti climatic, I wanted to see Steel and Slade go head to head again in a hearing. In fact I would have loved if Slade had lost (therefore Steel keeping his job), but was still a free man.
Chain Reaction (1996)
Really fun and rewatchable!
This is a very fun movie with a high level of rewatchability. The two leads have great chemistry, the action is very good, and Morgan Freeman is fantastic (he honestly steals the entire movie).
There are definitely flaws. The dialogue is pretty clunky (mostly in the beginning) and the reactions the characters have to their predicament is a little to relaxed. My biggest problem is that Eddie is somehow able to evade cops and spies with relative ease; I wish they had given a somewhat logical explanation for this such as military service or even just being a track star in college.
Inception (2010)
While not for everyone, truly amazing!
While this is definitely a somewhat complex science fiction movie (which isn't for everyone); it's really a story about a man trying to accept the loss of his wife and return home.
With that great layered story, amazing visuals, and top notch acting (particularly by Leo DiCaprio) this movie really is nearly perfect.
What a Girl Wants (2003)
Charming and funny!!!
I love this movie! I have seen it at least 100 times over the years. It's charming, hilarious, well acted, and has a good message. As this genre of movies go it's top-notch!
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
Really good!!!
I've heard for years that this is the greatest action movie of all time and while I wouldn't go that far, it is really good. This movie is basically a non stop car chase, with amazing cinematography, good acting, and a decent story in-between.
That said it's really over the top to near ridiculousness (particularly in the beginning) and fairly predictable. Also, while it didn't really affect my enjoyment that much, besides Zoe Kravitz nearly every single actor (even in the background) is white which kinda irked me.
The Equalizer: The Equalizer (2021)
As pilot episodes go...
As pilot episodes go, this was pretty far above average. Decent story (although kinda predictable), great introductions for a good diverse group of characters, and the action wasn't bad either (a few to many cuts in the fight scene for my taste but impressive nonetheless). Looking forward to the next episode!
We Can Be Heroes (2020)
Fun and pretty diverse, but with a bad ending
I really enjoyed this film. It was diverse (main character is Latina and has one kid in a wheelchair, although with an obviously abled bodied actor) and even had the good twist of the drawing girl being an alien. I was ready to give this movie a 8 or 9...until that bs ending. Yes, I know this is a kids movie but man the reveal that the whole thing was just a stupid test really kind of angered me lol. With that I will say this is one of the best kids movies I've seen in a while!
NCIS: New Orleans: Master of Horror (2014)
Lazy and harmful!
I just can't get past another terribly harmful depiction of Dissociative IDENTITY Disorder (dissociative personality disorder isn't and has never been a thing). If it hadn't been for that this would have actually been an above average halloween themed episode, so I gave it 4 for the good parts and potential.
