Too good to miss
20 August 2019
There is no way I know of for me to congratulate my fellow contributors, but I have read their words and I agree. I'm just sat watching an episode of Dad's Army being repeated for the umpteenth time, on a channel well known for same, and Captain Mainwearing's manner when entering the room and saying "Anybody therrrre?" is EXACTLY as Robert Lindsay's was in this. How I miss such things as Sarge channeling Dixon of Dock Green. Alas, while this deserves to be up there with Father Ted it continues to rest.

Arthur Daley QC?

They don't make 'em like this anymore. As is so often the case with Minder, there are so many plot points that it isn't really possible to spoil. Though this episode has to be seen to be fully appreciated, by way of giving you a flavour I'd mention that the writing is clever enough to allow Arthur to address the bench three different ways without getting it right once. The highlight for me is when circumstances allow Arthur to play barrister and invoke the power of the law to spike the guns of "one jumped up petty policeman trying to chuck his weight around".
