Summer film ni notte (2020)
You're doing yourself a great disservice by not watching this film!
I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it. I loved every minute of it. Not crazy about certain parts of the score, but the story hooked me. Its hilarious, heartfelt, a love letter to filmmaking when you're young and to Samurai films and the joys of creation. I even got some Hausu (aka House) vibes from it! This film works in so many ways and I cannot wait to own this.
Ava from My Class (2021)
I cant wait to see more from director Youmin Kang
I remember going through the list of titles for Sundance for this year, and stumbled upon Ava From My Class. The title, along with the synopsis - simple yet compelled me - intrigued me.
After seeing this film, the beauty in its simplicity is what struck me the most. There's so much more going on in this film under the surface that makes you think and leaves you with a personal story of youth I think we can all relate to on one level or another.
The fact that this is her first film and it got into Sundance is impressive and it shows a promising future for Youmin Kang! I very much look forward to see what she does next!
