Sharknado 2: The Second One (2014)
Take this for what it is!
This movie is not Citizen Kane. This is a shameless promo/schlock horror film and reminds me of the 50's and 60's low budget movies I loved so much in my youth. It was the most talked about entertainment event the day after it aired on line and on television. A big win for the SYFY Channel. I loved the cameos, the New York thread and the outrageous ad placements. It was as perfect as a movie dealing with Sharknados can be. It was also a self-parody and really wouldn't have worked on MST3K because it, wisely, did not take itself seriously. I rated the film a 6 just to annoy people who don't get it. It is easily my favorite SYFY Channel original movie although that may not be much of a benchmark. I predict more comedy and self-parody in upcoming SYFY original productions for better or for worse. As the theme song says,"Where you gonna go in a Sharknado!" Sung by a Ramones cover band. I love it!
Cinematherapy Road Test (2004)
"Fish Named Wanda" segment was zany and very creative
Megan and Lawrence are an upscale, New Yorky duo with lots of Bling! They hosted 4 movies on a special "Road Trip" series sponsored by Pontiac on WE. The Duo introduced the movies and did a number of host spots. The best bits featured "helpful hints" ranging from "how not to get mugged" as a map carrying tourist abroad to what to wear when trying to spy on your neighbors and not get caught. The "Guest Experts" ranged from being openly hostile to the hosts to truly funny and spontaneous. The chemistry got better with each of the 4 episodes. The "Fish Named Wanda" segment was best but "The Breakfast Club" segment was a close second. Other films in the series were "The Money Pit" and "The Secret of My Success."
