thumbs down for Altıoklar
5 September 2005
If you are expecting to see a lot in the bath of Altıoklar, as it is promised by the tag line, you will be very disappointed to see that the movie consists of nothing but the populist style of Altıoklar regarding most famous issues like sex, marriage and cheating. To much nudity, which seems to appear from nowhere and has no connection or whatsoever to the plot proves that Altıoklar was unsuccessfully to "try something new" as he has quoted. To much sex centered jokes seems to show that Altıoklar had fallen for the famous saying which is "sex sells." I was hoping to see a very good story told with a very good narration technique. However in the end I found myself sitting down for 90 minutes and watching Altıoklar's experimental yet still to much focused on popularism work.

a rush of emotions
5 September 2005
the story is about the effects of a gifted and an unique retired musician on a conservative village of Sweden. If you are ready for a two hour long crying session, I would suggest that you should go for it even though the unique techniques of the Swedish cinema adds a different aspect to the so well known "drama" genre, the movie still ends up to be filled up with too many "dramatizied" scenes. The setting scenes and the wide shots of the village is very pleasing. However, the constant crying and moaning makes it hard to concentrate on the story. It seems that the most producitons of the year 2004 were mostly concentrated on the emotions and drama genre.

A good example of Turkish cinema
23 April 2005
Winner of many regional awards, it is one of the best and very modern movied of the Turkish cinema. After long years of being trapped in the popular and easy way of film-making, finally movies with artistic values are being released. Shot with a digital camera, the movie has very interesting visual effects.(a bit exaggurated and a bit experimental perhaps) the story is based on the lives of two friends which are totally different from each other. the movie contains a lot of cultural aspects which makes it impossible to be considered as an international movie. however, as i said before, the movie itself is a very solid proof that the standards of the Turkish cinema is rising.

A good movie about humanity
23 April 2005
If you feel like getting a bit sad, and are ready for a slow paced movie, than niceland is a very good option for you. The story of the mentally retarded boy and his encounter with a man who is frustrated at the world is rather an interesting one. As you watch the two helping out each other, you realize that people can learn something from each other regardless of their intelligence or age. Even though there is not much action involved and it gets a bit too slow sometimes, it is worth to watch it. The actors in it are quite astonishing, almost making you feel like they have been through the characters lives themselves. The director should also be commended for the choice of actors. There weren't many interesting shots and none of the technical stuff really caught my attention. However, the story is a very good one and includes a great deal of criticism for the people who are locked up in their own small worlds.

Coco and his dog
23 April 2005
I wasn't expecting a lot form this movie when I first bought the ticket. However the story of the mechanic whose life changed after owning a very special breed of dog turned out to be rather interesting one. The main character Coco needs to be commended for his astonishing work. His facial expressions in almost every single shot carried out some aspect of his character's naive nature. Even though the story doesn't end with a very striking ending, it can't be considered as a slowly paced one. The shot with the machines and Coco's car, where Coco is riding in the fields of the factory is a very good one indeed. Other than that, the technical aspects such as the color and the sound add a lot to the movie's close to real atmosphere.

one of the best animation movies
23 April 2005
I always found the animation movies boring to some extent. However, this very funny movie made me change my opinion. The very well thought of jokes added a lot to the humorous atmosphere of the movie. ALong with the jokes a very important message for the whole human kind was expressed. I found it rather ironic to warn the world about the dangers of technology via an animation film which can be considered as an outcome of technology itself. If you are against technology and globalization then you'll surely love this movie. Anyways, the theme was good, the characters were funny. Especially Mercano is a very hilarious character and a cute one indeed. I would also commend on the script of the movie which seemed very professional and well thought of. Even though at the end of the movie, things get a bit strange, when people start dancing around, I would recommend this movie to everyone.
