Hypnotic (2023)
Ben Affleck should retire
Glad to see others found this film pretty funny. It could genuinely be a comedy.
In the first 10 mins or so of the film I was actually intrigued, I love a good abduction. Some potential brainwashing and queues to trigger it, okay I can watch this maybe. But nope we just have the ability to use brain control and there's no real reason for it. In fact, you don't even need training, you can just be Ben Affleck.
I heard some dodgy music that reminded me of inception and thought wait are we making an inception spoof here. Next thing you know the buildings are in the sky but it looks low budget. There is approximately zero point in making a film with a "complex" story if you don't have the finesse to actually execute it. If you haven't seen inception or anything else by Nolan for that matter, just go watch those instead.
I agree with the review saying Nicholas Cage should've starred, it still would have been comedic and stupid but at least a lot more fun.
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023)
A tear jerker for sure
Absolutely brilliant!! Wasn't sure if I would enjoy a show based on the queen from Bridgerton but the story and performance are captivating. I went into this expecting something light hearted but it is a lot more serious and sensitive than the original series. A tear jerker for sure. There is a good balance between present day and the past. Overjoyed (and sobbing) that the shows ending did not disappoint. The music is beautifully done as in the original series. The casting is perfect. This is a brilliant addition to the Bridgerton collection and I highly recommend! There are only six episodes but that was enough to capture the story beautifully.
Deo geullori (2022)
The most satisfying revenge story
A masterpiece. I don't have huge detail to say about this series but I have to leave a review to say that everything about it is perfect. The story, direction, script, acting, music - all of it. Every performance is executed so well. Raw emotions are portrayed and felt intensely by the viewer. I think it is rare that a story actually delivers the justice that we as viewers want to see but here it is done so perfectly. Even when there is a set-back in the plan, it isn't a very big one, normally this type of story would involve too much of a one step forward and ten steps back trope, but in this case the right person is finally winning and it is so good!! Highly recommend.
Todo Dia a Mesma Noite (2023)
For memory, for justice, it shall not happen again
I noticed reviews from Brazalian people who watched this tragedy unfold in real time - for some of those people I understand the series will have a different effect and may not live up to the reality of the tragedy.
I wanted to provide a review from someone who didn't even have this tragic event on their radar until this series. People forget that not everyone knows about these tragedies and for a huge platform like netflix to release something like this, they are opening the eyes of so many people.
All of the actors performed very well. The scenes of the incident and everything that unfolded, for me were very well done and traumatic. I was screaming at my TV with the reveal of each detail of corruption following the investigation.
My only criticism of the series would be that some of the music is a little repetitive / overdone at times - not that this changed the fact that I was sobbing.
Stutz (2022)
There will never be anyone who has it all figured out
This is a beautiful film. The goal of helping people by sharing Stutz methods, has at least in my case, been met. I love that the film actually contains tools and actions that a person can use. As you watch, you can follow along with exercises that Stutz asks Jonah to do. The relationship between Jonah and Stutz is really special and as a viewer it feels like you're seeing them both so vulnerable and intimate. There is a real sense of honesty throughout. I also really enjoyed the visual aspects of the film. The film also has the perfect amount of humour. I will be rewatching this film and would definitely recommend it.
Long Story Short (2021)
A fun watch
I enjoyed this film. The plot is fun and acting good. You know from the start that you are going to get some heart wrenching pay off in the end that aligns with the film's message that life is too short etc, it didn't disappoint.
