The Naked Brothers Band: The Movie (2005)
They're Just Kids! Cut them some slack.
Wow, there are a roller-coaster of good and bad reviews and there sure are lots of bad ratings and they were from 2007 back when the movie aired on Nickelodeon. This is my first full review and this will be like a novel so bear with me. Where do I begin? The movie is a rockumentary/mockumentary aimed for kids so it's supposed to be fake, it's supposed to not be taken seriously. Some people are gullible but I don't blame them for not liking the name of the band but you know what they say, "Never judge a book by its cover" or in this case, never judge a movie by its title unless that quote already exists.
Anyway, it's about these two brothers lead singer Nat and drummer Alex who became a band when they were in preschool. They were known as the Naked Brothers Band since they were in the tub and then they included Nat's preschool friends David, Thomas and Josh. Thus, they were renamed the Silver Boulders and they became super well known (obviously not in the real world, that's why it's a mockumentary) and have quite the hardcore fanbase. "Crazy Car" was their breakout song since every fan in the movie jammed out to it in the beginning. Of course, the beginning was basically introducing us to the band and what their songs are.
But then the band broke up after they fought over which new song should be written. The 3 friends wrote a sexist/misogynistic song called "Boys Rule, Girls Drool" and Nat wrote a slow ballad song called "Rosalina" after Josh's step-sister. Nat got into a deep depression and Alex binged on lemon-lime soda. (similar to any adult celebrity with an alcohol or drug addiction) Meanwhile Josh, David and Thomas named their own band the Gold Boulders while Nat and Alex's dad attempted to join in but Nat and Alex instantly kicked him out. Thankfully, Nat and Alex decided to bring back the Naked Brothers Band. They included a childhood friend named Cole who was initially in the Naked Brothers band right from the beginning before he was famous on his own after being in a Cheerios commercial. The other new band member was Rosalina who Nat has a crush on and got nervous and spoke in a British accent towards Rosalina until the Naked Brothers Band reformed.
When The Naked Brothers Band started their first gig, the Gold Boulders performed right before them and sung their sexist/misogynistic song "Boys Rule, Girls Drool" but were booed by the audience right away and fled to their dressing room. Nat tried to talk to his former bandmates but was interrupted by the Gold Boulders' new snotty band manager. The Naked Brothers Band performed two songs called "Hardcore Wrestlers (with Inner Feelings) and "Rosalina". The Gold Boulders changed their mind after listening to the song and decided to join the Naked Brothers Band at the end of the movie. The film ends with the band once again singing "Crazy Car" on the roof of a building as an homage to the Beatles along with everyone of the other characters.
The movie in my opinion is silly but not bad. Sure, the name is inappropriate, the jokes are hit and miss but not all horrible. The songs are actually enjoyable. Anyone who hates it is either too snobby or needs their ears cleaned. Sure, they're not the best but keep in mind Nat actually wrote the songs himself except for one song which was written by Alex called "That's How It Is". For a kid, the songs were written better than expected. I can't think of any song to ever be written by a kid and be okay. "Crazy Car" is stuck in my head sometimes along with "Motormouth". "Rosalina" and "If There Was a Place to Hide" are decent. "Got No Mojo" is alright and the songs in the show are extremely underrated and are the best part of the show but that's for another review. All the actors tried their best and sure, the celebrity cameos are both random and pointless but are short. I've seen worse movies and I've seen worse child actors. Kidz Bop is 100% worse than the Naked Brothers Band when it comes to kids music.
I was only 8 when the movie premiered on Nickelodeon and I distinctly remembered loving the movie and the show and I still enjoy them. It's just nostalgic and it's also a guilty pleasure for sure. Anyone who hates this movie has to do their research beforehand and it's also awesome that both Nat and Alex Wolf are still acting to this day. Shame that the other kid actors all grown up aren't as relevant as them. If anyone disagrees with my review. I respect it if you make valid points and if you agree, I salute you.
