Love Story (2021)
9/10
Shekar Kammula's Meta-Narrative is "TOUCH"ing!!!
24 September 2021
Love Story is set in Hyderabad whose most famous love story is that of Quli Qutub Shah who swam across a river during flood times to save the love of his life, Bhagmati. This love story is between people who are from two different religions and social positions, and the only thing binding them is love. Hyderabad's foundation is built on love. Therefore the love story buds and grows in Hyderabad. And we are lured by it.

Real story surfaces when the couple realizes that they are unequal and even if they want to live together, it won't end well for their families. And here chaitanya's character has more to lose. Because since childhood he resented his unequal status and faced many hardships to create whatever he has now.

One beautiful aspect of this movie is how it deals with "TOUCH". For sai pallavi's character physical touch reminds her of the atrocity she faced as a child. For Chaitanya's character, being from a lower caste his touch is always considered impure. And beauty of writing comes out in a scene when he touches her, she feels discomfort even though she knows his touch is not intentional and he feels sorry as well as angry when she reprimands him, but he cannot show.

They both carry a lot of emotional baggage in this movie. Which is why when heroine KISSES hero, it had a huge impact. And he cries when she kisses conveys the acceptance he feels of both her love and society as a whole. HIM BEING UNTOUCHABLE ALL HIS LIFE IS WIPED OFF WITH THAT TEARDROP.

This is most mature writing I have seen from any Telugu director in recent times. Many questions were raised that we overlook in our day-to-day lives like What is Masculinity? How can child abuse affect their education? How can drinking father drains his child's security into gutter? Is his father's drinking habit root cause of all her problems? OR Is it the voyeuristic nature of a human mind? How can discrimination make you insecure? And when will you be free of that insecurity? Maybe never!!

My only concern is due to this heavy lifting, somehow the atrocity faced by sai pallavi's character took a backseat till the penultimate portion of the movie. And the movie redeems its mistake with the powerful performance of Devayani (sai pallavi's mother) in a single scene in the climax.

Comedy works in parts. Melanie Lynskey is awesome.
13 September 2021
I can't say that I didn't enjoy the movie. Premise of a household ghost only visible to one person and trains her to be "My Fair Lady" makes a good premise for eliciting laughter if done right. But this movie feels as if it is made for TV. Melanie Lynskey is awesome. She fills life to this otherwise normal movie. And Judy Greer did her part. Not that this movie is bad, but could've done better.

Anyways I had fun watching it.

Is the movie lame? Yes.

Did I enjoy the movie? Doubtfully yes. You can enjoy it as well if you can go through the first 20-25 mins of nonsense.

Do I recommend it? Yes, you might enjoy in parts.

Watching for the first time in 2021. Real masterpiece!!!
9 September 2021
I started writing this review 40 minutes through the film and some parts until now really tear jerking. Especially the scene where raj's mother loses her senses thinking she has cooked for her son and raj realizing that as a child is really heart-touching. The cinematography is really brilliant and feels fresh even today and reminded me of the works of Kurosawa and satyajit ray. Especially the close-ups and top angle shots. No wonder this movie resonated well all over Asia and Europe. The child version of Rita reminded me of young Mary from It's a wonderful life by Frank Capra. And Raj Kapoor looks like Indian Clark Gable.

Later part of the film feels like a charlie Chaplin movie with most of the scenes plays in a fast forward fashion. I feel Prithviraj Kapoor shines throughout the latter part of the movie. With his eyes, he firmly induces terror into a viewer's mind. This aspect of his acting can be noticed in Mughal-E-Azam as well. I feel Nargis a little overrated here. She is not a real beauty, but the presentation of her is what made her so beautiful in this film. She looked so beautiful in this film. I have seen her films before and after this movie, but never this beautiful. Especially in the dream song sequence she is astounding.

I'm all praise for this movie. No two ways about it because MASALA CINEMA is India's identity. A well made masala melodrama is always my kind of cinema. This movie was released in 1951 4 years after India's independence. Cinema is a new thing for that generation. I wonder how they would've felt to see this movie on big screen. I myself felt like watching in a big theater.

NTR fought a bull for real in This movie
7 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
B. A. Subbarao might not have had the faintest idea when he signed a handsome young man with rich voice for one of the lead roles in his first movie 'Palletoori Pilla' that one day he would rule not only the Telugu film industry but also the State. The new hero was none other than the charismatic Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR).

Santha (Anjali Devi) is the daughter of the village elder Purandayya (Gadepalli Ramaiah), who also looks after his nephew, Vasanth (ANR). Kampana Dora (A. V. Subbarao) leads a dacoit gang. Jayanth (NTR), who is brought up by him, also indulges in dacoities, but undergoes a change of heart when Santha criticises him for his barbaric acts. The villagers don't trust him at first, but accept him when he saves Santha and Vasanth from a raging bull. Santha and Jayanth get married and this irks Kampana. He kidnaps Jayanth, who, however, is rescued by Kampana's paramour Ragini (Lakshmikantha) and her maid (Surabhi Balasaraswati). Meanwhile, Santha, who, along with her child, is wandering in the forest in search of her husband, is spotted by Kampana's men. They take away the child, whom Vasanth saves but in the process himself gets grievously hurt. He hands over the child to Santha and dies. The villagers capture Kampana and bring him to Jayanth. Kampana ultimately regrets his past.

Tapi Dharma Rao's power-packed dialogue plus situational lyrics and Adinarayana Rao's sweet musical score made the movie a wholesome experience. Packed with hit songs such as 'Shantha vanti Pilla Ledoyi...' and 'Baravey Joruga Joruga...Neethone Yethaamu sruthi kalipi paadali...' and especially 'Dheerakampana' by Jikki which comes at the starting of the film praising the bravery of the antagonist will pump your blood with its lyrics. A. V. Subbarao's theatrical experience helped him play Kampana, the antagonist character with dignity.

For the first time in her career Anjali Devi had scope to emote varied emotions-- the gutsy village belle, the lover and the emotional mother-and she did it with aplomb.

ANR, already an established hero, came up with a neat portrayal as Vasanth. NTR as Jayanth was a revelation, giving an indication of what a great future lay before him. The director had told him only to catch the horns of the Australian bull he had to fight (to save Santha and Vasanth), but NTR literally fought with the savage bull which ultimately threw him to the ground, fracturing his right hand. Despite being told to take rest, NTR reported for the shoot the very next day!

Watch it if you truly want to enjoy NTR's charsimsa as a youngster.

It's a drag.
7 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
After the box-office success of Pavithra Bandam and Pellichesukundam, Gita Chitra International seems to have got a fancy for dishing out flicks with intertesting storylines. This time, it is Srimathi Vellostha - the storyline of which hinges on postmarital love between husband and wife. This plotline is as old as missamma, except that it is inversed here. Though Bhoopathi Raja's story experiments with a new formula, the treatment meted out to it is what leaves you irritated and fails to impress.

The movie starts on a familiar note, with the hero and the heroine falling in love after a few witty exchanges as any masala movie. Ravi (Jagapati Babu) who comes to the village to attend his friend's wedding falls in love with city-bred Madhu (Poonam). But his father comes in the way and coerces him to marry his friend's daughter Kanchana (Devyani). Meanwhile, Kanchana has her own sobbing love story. She's in love with an unemployed youth Rajendra (Prithvi). This invites her father's wrath and so they are separated.

After marriage, Ravi and Kanchana realise that they cannot live together with broken hearts. They decide to get back to their lovers and hence apply for a divorce. But their "lover-swapping" plans fail for even the court quashes their plea. If you are still interested in knowing what ensues, watch the movie.

Inspite of the presence of a battery of comedians, there's nothing much to look forward to. Koti's musical score is disappointing. The choreography is even worse. Dialogues by MVS Haranath Rao lack that extra punch. On the whole, the movie is a drag.

They are LAZY ANGELS!!😠
20 November 2019
All throughout the movie I keep wondering will there be any action going to happen or not? I agree that these kind of movies need no logic, and we only need some properly executed action for the sake of the action. But, unfortunately that didn't happen at all.

All the cast members are lazy as hell, even when they are running. They didn't even put any effort at all especially Kristen Stewart. It is clearly visible when she is riding the horse. She needs a stunt double even for such a kindergarten stunt. Ella balinska has the physicality but expressionless all through. And Naomi Scott, it's best not to talk about her.

Even if there is no story, an apt cast and one or two properly choreographed action episodes are expected out of these kind of movies. I'm giving 4 stars which is only for the soundtrack which is good when compared to the movie.

In my opinion drew Barrymore's version of Charlie's Angels is far more better than this porcelain piece

Beautifully executed!!!
25 September 2019
This is quite a complex story to tell because the film focuses more on the relation between the actor and the child rather than their individual lives. So explaining only those parts of their lives that are used to understand the depth of the whole scenario. Every performance is well done. The beauty of the whole movie lies in its cinematography which focuses as whole on the mood of the movie. It is a little sad to watch, but what can we expect from a story like this.

Give it a try, its a good watch.

Another Krishna came for Kuchela's rescue story!!!!
9 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This film starts with Mahesh becoming CEO. He is presented as a loving and caring son. Then gets to a surprise reunion party which leads to flashback of college days of RISHI. This time introduces his character properly with a fight and a conversation with his friend. Allari naresh and Pooja hegde enters, and become friends Blah Blah Blah!!!! Nothing new here until he knows what Ravi(Allari Naresh) has done for him. He then goes to India to meet him. From here it gets interesting!!!

The fight between Rishi and Mittal(Jagapati Babu) over Ravi's village makes the crux of the story. The approach Rishi follows is new and feels good to watch. Almost every scene from here onwards is well written and executed, as far as commecial masala film standards are concerned.

This movie offers nothing new that we haven't seen before, but whatever it tries to showcase it doesn't make you feel bored. All the characters are written mostly in a unidirectional and stereotypical way (Like all the farmers are poor and all the city people lack compassion for farmers). And even they are presented superficially as per convenience.

Until the second-half of the movie, nothing feels organic. The whole college episode looks too 3 idiot-ish. Music of the movie is a big let down, even BGM is not so effective. K U Mohanan's Cinematography is better than decent. SRI MANTHUDU is a far better movie in terms of character development.

Anyway this is a decent movie to watch. I"ll recommend it

So perfect!!! Its a pity there are only 10 stars!!!
9 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Everything is so right with this episode. But my only concern is tommen's suicide.

This episode deals with both CERSEI and TOMMEN. Tommen is incompetent, not fit to rule, lustful for his brother's wife, easy to manipulate, and has no desire for vengeance even when his mother shamed in front of every commoner (And that is horrible moment even for cersei). Whatever she's done, she is his own mother whoever his father may be. He should be able acknowledge that. AND she is not spiteful to him even he asked her mother if she hates his wife just after she finished walk of atonement and denied her final visit to her daughter. And finally he commits suicide, which is somehow a perfect ending for such an incompetent character.

Special appreciation for RAMIN DJAWADI for the BGM, the mood he created for the final two episodes especially the final episode.

There is no better show than GAME OF THRONES!!!

HERE MOTHER AND DAUGHTER ARE BOTH VICTIMS AND ASSAILANTS OF ONE ANOTHER. LIKE AN INDIAN SAYING "OUR MIND IS FOLLOWED BY OUR OWN KARMA". THIS SERIES PROVES IT. I HAVE NO MORE WORDS TO SAY.

BRILLIANT ACTING. I WOULD'VE RATED 10 STARS IF THE LAST FEW ARE NOT THAT DULL.

THE HORROR OF BEING NEEDED!!!
6 May 2019
Since Gypsy tried escaping in previous episode, now Dee Dee is using her illness as a reason to lock Gypsy from outer world. She severs every possible friendships Gypsy can have by threatening or blaming them for their irresponsibility. Gypsy is helpless like always. This episode will make you feel threatened to be needed by someone.

WOW!!! Patricia Arquette is so brilliant even her gaze threatens you. She is terrifying. She should be getting awards for this show. Actually both of them deserve all the praise in the world.

wow!!!! Simply WOW!!! WHO COULD'VE THOUGHT SPLIT PERSONALITY DISORDER COULD BE USEFUL!!!
5 May 2019
What intrigued me watch this movie is Split personality disorder. And since it is a comedy I expected a "Me, Myself & Irene" kind-ish movie. And I am almost satisfied with the movie, even though I know none of the people worked for this film.

Sandy Batchelor, the man who played Rupert. I never even heard of him before, but he is absolutely brilliant. Especially in the scenes of theater where he switches back to his normal self and just with a pat on the back he is angry again. If that is all a single take, then he definitely did a wonderful job. And the lady who rehearses with is also as good as he is. Her reactions to his outbursts are so good, even we feel that she is feeling guilty and threatened by him. I think they need to be recognized.

Even though this provides less comedic effect, it is exciting to watch when everybody mistakes his anger for method acting. The comedy is provided by the other characters, especially the director.

The only problem with this movie is that it looks very minimalistic, but luckily it never feels that way. This movie well written and editing is pretty good so you don't feel bored at all.

The main plot points I liked about this movie all the 3 personalities have the objective to become an actor and all of the 3 are well aware of each other and that they need ANGRY RUPERT to be in the part. But the conflict arises when THE ANGRY RUPERT starts to ruin his life by being a dick all the time. And without NORMAL RUPERT'S vulnerabilities he THE ANGRY RUPERT can't be loved. This kept me captivated to know what will happen by the end of the movie. It is more like working with an angry boss. you can't work for him, but you can't leave him. Which probes them to accept one another. This makes him like any other person because everyone controls their emotions and learn to redirect them for proper use. This is when "THE FLIRT RUPERT" comes in and when he faces rejection we feel again that he is troubled for real this time.

This movie is well written and performed. I highly recommend it.

IT'S NO ROCKY, BUT IT IS ENJOYABLE...
5 May 2019
"Fighting with my family" is an entertaining film to watch. The journey is not that extraordinary and neither does it severe up and downs. it is just a fun film but not as funny as "HERE COMES THE BOOM".

Small cameos from "THE ROCK" adds some glamour to the film, but the real credit should go to "VINCE VAUGHN". These days he is limiting to side characters only like in "HACKSAW RIDGE", in which he is brilliant.

It may or may not any body's favorite film, but it is a good watch and definitely not a waste of your time. I'll recommend it.

Something's not right!!!
3 May 2019
This movie is not interesting enough to watch completely. Any movie or video material has to have some comfortable pace to be able to create intrigue in audience. This movie lacks it. We can understand the premise or where it is going in first 15 minutes and that also seems like a mere idea rather than movie material. It could have made a better short film, but it lacks the standard in making.

I don't recommend it.

A story of a lover pleading guilty of and a serial killer pleading not guilty!!!!
3 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The first hour will make you doubt if Ted is really a criminal or innocent (If you don't know anything about the case beforehand). And by the time he reaches colorado you start to sympathize for him. Also the analogy of "papillon" really helps for this. By the time he escapes Aspen court we are already rooting for him and feel happy when he escapes.

when the case goes to public trial a reporter says "each day, the courtroom is filled with spectators drawn by a fascination with the gruesome details of the crimes". This in my opinion is most hard hitting set of words in the whole movie. If we are not provided with the climax where he writes "HACKSAW", we would have thought that he is innocent. Or maybe since this movie is based on the book written by LIZ herself, it would all have been a lie created by her based on some real events which makes it a semi-fiction. Or she is telling the truth but he is lying since she asked him to release her from the guilt. And this possibility looks a little cheesy. But since he himself confessed guilty of all those crimes, all other possibilities get nullified and he becomes the serial killer.

Whatever may be the case, it is good movie. Zac Efron is fantastic in this movie. He's come a long way from 17 again, which I am very fond of. He portrayed both a lover pleading guilty of and a serial killer pleading not guilty, pun intended. I'll recommend it!!

It definitely achieves what it tries to achieve...
30 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Jordan Hinson is so beautiful and she acted well. Every conversation in the movie is so organic that not one feels like they are just put there for namesake. The best part of the film is it's runtime which is just what it needed for us to feel romance.

The best moment in the film is When she says that she can't sleep and he asks for what do we do and the scene is cut to slow paced dancing. It is purely romantic. This is where I feel like it achieved its objective, which is basically being a romantic drama.

Watch it if you are a fan of this genre. You won't be disappointed

Refreshingly good movie...
30 April 2019
Even though this film starts as a regular love/heartbreak story, the movie deals with a lot of practical problems that are surrounding around marriage. Three independent stories each has its own problems all regarding marriage.

This is not a new story, but the way it was presented is very fresh and problems really feel like problems. Which is why a philosophy arises against the institution of marriage by the end of the movie.

Every actor did a decent job especially the three female leads, they nailed it. their performance is what makes us see the movie through their eyes.

Not fresh as before before movies but good to watch...
25 April 2019
Movie starts with an answer that they were finally together and have two daughters. Looks like they married right away after "before sunset".

We were told how this movie is going to be in a scene where Jesse talks to his friends about his new book that he is planning to write which comprises of a group of people having conversations and all they have some common ground to connect, but where they differ is their perception of seeing things rather than their age or time they are living in. That is exactly the first act of movie is about which sets a base for the coming acts. But in the climax it gets a little formulaic and that is why I gave it 9 stars.

Unlike other two movies the conflict that is introduced here is not time it's disagreement of wife and husband over moving to Chicago. The audience will wonder if they are going to split throughout the movie and they wait for the moment of eruption. And that is achieved in just two scenes.

After watching all the three movies my feeling is that they are liking books except if u watch a book instead of reading them.

If u think before sunrise is the best... This is even better
25 April 2019
The way this movie starts is very interesting and without wasting any time it makes them meet so effortlessly in a way that we feel like there is no time gap between the movies. Or it is may be I am binge watching the trilogy. The question of whether they meet after 6 months is answered in a very minimalistic and beautiful way. And this brings them to find comfort again talking to each other. That is really brilliant and pure poetry.

And there is no conflict or up and downs in story arc. Just the time constraint. This is really not proforma of any usual story. I have not seen this kind of story telling before. Usually movies that leave some impact on you are mostly confined to a genre and some conflict - victory scenario. This script is not limited to those things and requires not much from actors but makes a large impact that too in a pleasant way.

One thing is clear now atleast is that they have had sex that night and that too twice. But this time ambiguity lies in the question of will they ever meet? or will there be any closure for them?

Wow!!! Kudos to the director for both films. I have yet to watch the third part. I don't know if it gives me the same feel as the first two, which is why I'm writing my review here itself. Just enjoying the moment and sharing my love.

It is even better than the original, but what made it good was it's performances
23 April 2019
Definitely the performances of the film are really intense and length of the film is such that it is as much required, not fast paced as in the original in which you miss out some details unless you pause and repeat the scene again. Which makes this movie experience better in a theatre. And this is surely blockbuster material.

Big B still got the anger in him. And Tapsee played both victim and the culprit so effectively.

23 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Otherwise, some might feel bored especially youth. story is good but it takes its sweet time to take off. once it picks up the pace one will feel the innocence of the characters. they feel they know everything but innocent. they both develop nice friendship within the process and one dies.

its more like a love story of two ill-fated. and it is portrayed through the locations they choose to shoot the movie which is depressing actually.

23 April 2019
But unfortunately its not. and this 80 minutes of nonsense is nothing new and lacks lot of things like proper acting, a good paced story, not even proper music for that matter.

if anything a romantic comedy or drama needs some reasonable pace to make audience watch the whole thing even when it is predictable. i don't know what else to say except that it is a waste of time.
