Take Care of Maya (2023)
Utterly distressing
As a mom to a child with special needs, where I know his wants, needs and desires (mentally, emotionally, physically and medically), more than anyone else on the face of this planet, this was incredibly difficult to watch. I watch all the crime documentaries and no documentary has made me feel so repulsed to the point of turning it off. What this family went through (and is still going through), is so disheartening. That this mom, who was a nurse even, wasn't believed, but instead told she was abusing her kid and refrained from talking to her child and even seeing her child. Her own kid who she took to Mexico to get treatment for!
My heart shattered into a million pieces when the judge said she wasn't allowed to hug her daughter after several months of being apart. The mom, who was at her child's side since birth, her daughter's advocate essentially, was denied the act of giving her own child a hug. This eventually led to the mom taking her own life. The judge should be ashamed of himself. I hope he thinks about this family all day every day for the rest of his life.
My heart goes out to the family and those other families who were affected by the doctors, nurses and staff at John Hopkins Hospital.
Incredibly well-done documentary.
RIP Beata.
Trash Truck (2020)
For caucasians only
This show is cute. The visuals are nice. They're gentle on little one's eyes. The slow dialogue is perfect. There aren't any flashy images. It's great. But it stops at that. It's not diverse at all. It is only white people. And very rarely will you see someone of color even in the background. I'm teaching my child to include others and that everyone is different. But this show doesn't teach him that, so I'm going to pass.
